Lilydale Street Fair a success The Lilydale Street Fair was a hit with locals, the first to be held in a many number of years. It saw thousands of people flock to the centre of the town to watch performances, hear live music, shop locally made gifts and hear about all the activities on offer in and around Lilydale. Opening the Saturday event with a parade through Main Street, scouts, ballerinas, the CFA, old cars and local high school bands were all featured. Organisers were so pleased with the event and how the community received the Fair, they can’t wait to host next year’s. Great local loss By Mikayla van Loon The Mount Evelyn community were saddened to hear the news of the death of community man Bryan McCarthy last week. In recent years, Mr McCarthy was a champion of the Mount Evelyn Sports and Community Hub, a project he’d worked on for over six years, bring together community groups, sporting clubs and Yarra Ranges Council to finally achieve an outcome for the Recreation Reserve. While unable to see the fruits of his labour,

the sporting pavilion will be a lasting legacy for his dedication and community spirit. Although battling an illness Mr McCarthy never wavered and continued to give to those around him for the benefit of others. As a longstanding member of the Rotary Club of Lilydale and a former CFA volunteer, Mr McCarthy will be dearly missed across many suburbs and within many friendship circles. Messages of love and sadness were spread on social media after his passing on Wednesday 30 November.

Having worked as an Emergency Management and Recovery Coordinator at Mitchell Shire Council, staff took to social media to share a tribute. “He will be remembered for his wisdom, humour, ready-smile and positive impact he had on so many of us,” the post read. “Some people come into our lives and quickly go, some stay for a while and leave footprints in our hearts.” Federal MP for Casey Aaron Violi also wrote a fitting tribute to his friend and great support. “I was fortunate to meet Bryan when I

joined the Liberal Party and he was chair of the Evelyn SEC,” he said. “From the day I joined, Bryan took me under his wing, providing guidance and support while creating opportunities within the party so I could grow and develop. “I would not be the person I am today without the support and guidance of Bryan and Maria.” Mr McCarthy is survived by his wife Maria, two children Chris and Andrea and extended family.
