PARENTS of Warwick State High School students are set to be hit with costs of up to $1000 per student next year to supply them with laptop computers as part of a major IT in education push. Education Queensland says the Bring Your Own Device or BYOx program is “optional” but Warwick SHS will offer hire deals of schoolowned laptops in a bid to bring all students from Years 8 to 12 into the Computers for Students initiative. As well as the purchase or hire cost of the laptops themselves, parents may also be hit with an annual levy to help fund the cost of cyber-security and lockers. While Warwick SHS and other high schools in the region already have similar schemes in place for mostly year 10, 11 and 12 students, the BYOx drive is aimed at bringing the entire Warwick SHS student body into the laptop loop.
