Hub’s health tick

By VICTORIA STONE-MEADOWS YARRA Ranges Council has unanimously passed a planning permit for the proposed Belgrave Health Hub. At a council meeting on Tuesday 24 November, council heard from one objector to, and one supporter of, the plan before putting the permit to a vote.

Tecoma-based GP Dr Dennis Gration spoke against the proposed building and the plan to integrate health services in Belgrave into a single building.

Dr Gration said there was a lack of consultation with doctors in the area despite council’s Director of Social and Economic Development Ali Wastie saying otherwise.

“We wrote to GPs a few months ago

to check back in with council if they had any issues with the hub.

“We didn’t have any response,” she said.

Dr Gration has said he and other health care providers in the area have been snubbed in the planning process for the Health Hub. “They have pretended (no health care in The Hills) exists until they spend their $8 million,” he said.

“It’s quite disrespectful for people out there providing low or no-cost health services such as dieticians and diabetes educators.”

Dr Gration has raised concerns that the money spent on the new hub could be better used by improving commu-

nity health services that were already available.

“It is a major problem to create a whole new facility when we don’t need it, instead of getting on with building the existing reality and building a fantasy,” he said.

“We work with whatever resources we have and there are so many complications already - council should be focused on breaking down barriers to health care and funding should be available for care in the local area.

“Reliable and community-based services are what people really need.”

Yarra Ranges Director Social and Economic Development Ali Wastie said the services available at the proposed Health Hub would work along-

side those available in the community.

“The Belgrave Hub will provide services that complement those offered

by GPs,” she said.

“While there is a good supply of GPs for residents in Belgrave and surrounding areas, there is also a high demand in the Belgrave area for allied health, family and children's services and dental, as well as specialist services including social support for older people and people experiencing family violence.”

Ms Wastie also said there was consultation with existing health care providers and GPs in the area and both Yarra Ranges council and Inspiro had offered to meet with Dr Gration a number of times.

“A joint letter from Inspiro and from council was sent to GPs in the Belgrave and surrounding area seeking feedback on the proposed hub and to contact council if there were any concerns,” she said.

“No correspondence has been received about the hub from any other GP other than Dr Gration.

“Inspiro offered to meet with Dr Gration several times to discuss his concerns and these offers were not taken up."

Yarra Ranges Council will go ahead with the building of the Belgrave Health Hub which will integrate allied health services, GPs and the Dandenong Ranges Emergency Relief Service.

Campaign launched

By VICTORIA STONE-MEADOWS YARRA Ranges Council has used White Ribbon Day on Wednesday 25 November to begin their 16-day campaign to raise awareness for and change attitudes towards men’s violence against women.

The 16 Days of Activism campaign is led in the region by Women’s Health East and aims to change the understanding of what causes men’s violence against women and what can be done to change it.

The initiative was launched Wednesday at Lillydale Lake where 16 bollards with local statistics and facts about domestic violence were on display.

The bollards had statistics about men’s violence against women, such as police in the Yarra Ranges attending 479 domestic violence related incidents where children were present, 1372 incidents in total.

Yarra Ranges Council is bringing together advocacy groups from across the community to inform and educate people about the impact gender inequality has on the prevalence of violence in the community.

The 16 Days of Activism campaign will see events held around the shire with speakers including members of advocacy groups, domestic violence survivors and community leaders.

Melissa Bell, a survivor of domestic violence and Women's Health East advocate, has been invited to speak at council-run events about her experiences and says Yarra Ranges are taking important steps to end men’s violence against women.

“I think it’s amazing,” she said.

“It’s really productive and even if it starts small it will gain momentum.

Kathy Oliver is Yarra Ranges Council’s new gender equality officer and says this initiative is only the tip of the iceberg for how Yarra Ranges is working shift community attitudes.

“We are taking a primary prevention approach,” she said.

“We recognise that men’s violence against women is caused by inequality in power and stereotyping of gender roles.”

Ms Oliver said the Yarra Ranges Council would be taking a leading role in shifting these perceptions by actively combating damaging attitudes and practices within the council workplace and acting as a role

model for community values.

The council’s Family Youth and Children’s Services manager Guy Masters said the campaign is about taking the lead and working towards changing community views.

“We want to challenge all the attitudes in the community that allow violence against women to occur,” he said.

“Tackling this problem means a paradigm shift and changing the messages that say there is a difference in the power between men and women.”

Council CEO Glenn Patterson said the council was committed to carrying on the messages of White Ribbon Day into the regular operations of council business.

“We aim to be a role model and not in just raising awareness,” he

said. “It’s important as an employer that we take the lead in applying best practice for gender equality. It’s not just about white ribbon day or the 16 days of activism but it needs to be an ongoing cross-organisational approach to gender equality.”

Streeton Ward councillor Noel Cliff said White Ribbon Day brought back painful memories for himself and said he saw the initiative as so important to end an entrenched attitude of violence in the community.

“Hopefully we can teach a generation that behaviour is unacceptable and it we don’t start now it’ll never stop,” he said.

Six new road safety projects CARDINIA Shire has received Federal Government funding to complete six new road safety projects.

The sum will include $118,000 for works along Rainy Hill Road, Cockatoo.

The works, due for completion in July next year, will include altering roadside drains and barriers to improve the roadside, as well as installing crash barriers at one location.

The funding will come from the National Black Spot Program 2015/16.

Burglars raid houses BURGLARS have smashed into and ransacked two Emerald homes during daylight attacks which occurred within days of each other.

Between 11am and 9.30pm on Saturday 21 November, a Majestic Drive home was targeted by burglars who smashed a sliding door at the rear of the property before rifling through the owners’ property.

Police said the burglars made off with electrical equipment, jewellery and a camera valued at $1800.

Days earlier, a home several hundred metres away was also targeted by raiders who made off with similar loot.

Between 1.30pm and 3.30pm on Wednesday 18 November, burglars smashed open the rear laundry window of an Azalea Crescent home.

Police said the raiders ransacked the home, taking cash and jewellery.

Firewood collection dates

Cooking up a storm THE Silvan Primary School last Friday, 27 November, hosted its kitchen garden cook-off between a team of students from neighbouring schools. Teams of students competed against each other to create a savoury or sweet meal to present to a panel of judges. The winner in each category was awarded a perpetual trophy. There are also prizes awarded to all participants, made possible by the donations of local business. The main rule is two ingredients are sourced organically. THE spring 2015 firewood collection season officially closed across Victoria on Monday 30 November.

DELWP manager Jon Rofe said from today, 1 December, all designated firewood collection areas will be closed over the summer period, making it illegal for people to collect firewood on public land until the start of the autumn firewood collection season.

“Firewood collection has already ceased in the Loddon Mallee region while supplies may also be exhausted in some designated firewood collection areas,” Mr Rofe said.

String of charges A COCKATOO man, 39, has been arrested in Monbulk after being found in possession of stolen jewellery.

The man was arrested by Leading Senior Constable Peter Edyvane in the Monbulk Main Street on Friday 27 November and charged with a range of offences.

Charges include possession of stolen jewellery, theft of a motor car, handling and receipt of stolen goods, and traffic and possession and use of amphetamine and cannabis.

The man has been charged and bailed to appear in Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on 21 August 2016.

A HOUSE under construction in Gembrook has had about $15,000 worth of power tools stolen from a shed.

The two and a half acre property on Mountain Road was burgled between 3pm on 23 November and 6.30am on 24 November.

Unknown persons forced open the front door of the shed and gained entry to the structure where they made off with the power tools.

Det Sgt Barrow said the man was described as possibly in his forties, with a thin build, short, black and grey hair, and a “weathered” look.

He was wearing dark jeans and a dark jacket.

Nursery broken into A NOT-FOR-PROFIT nursery in Mount Evelyn was broken into and robbed last week, with thieves making off with power tools and police calling for witnesses.

A whipper snipper and a welder, with a value of about $1800, were stolen in the incident, and Det Sgt Barrow said the nursery was a wholesale, not-for-profit business.

MONBULK police officers Sgt Mark Knight and Ken Tromp found more than they had bargained for when executing a failed-to- appear warrant on Saturday 28 November.

The officers approached a house in The Basin to execute the warrant when they found cannabis plants hanging from the ceiling, 14 jars of dried cannabis, two hydroponic grow houses and 42 cannabis plants in the backyard.

A 41-year-old man was charged with trafficking and cultivation and possession of a drug of dependence and bailed to appear in Ringwood Magistrates’ court on 7 January 2016.

Council to fight back

By JESSE GRAHAM YARRA Ranges mayor Jason Callanan says the council will aim to appeal a VEC recommendation that will see the biggest change to ward structures in 20 years.

On Wednesday, 25 November, the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) officially finished its review into the Yarra Ranges Council’s electoral structure, releasing its report and recommendations to the Victorian Government.

The final recommendation of the report was that the council should keep nine councillors, but have them elected from three wards, rather than the current nine for next year’s election.

These three wards are Chirnside, which takes in the urban areas of the municipality around Lilydale, O’Shannassy, which encompasses the Yarra Valley and Mount Evelyn, and Streeton, which covers the Dandenong Ranges.

It follows preliminary submissions received during August and early September, follow-up submissions to a preliminary report and a public meeting on 5 November.

Cr Callanan, who made a submission in favour of keeping the current nine-ward structure, said the recommendation was “surprising”, as the VEC originally indicated it was in favour of keeping the status quo.

He said the change meant he would now be seeking re-election with councillors Jim Child and Fiona McAllister in a ward that covered the entire Yarra

Valley - about 22,000 square kilometres.

“I honestly don’t know how it’s going to work - I really don’t,” he said.

“Looking at my ward, Jim’s ward and Fiona’s ward combining into one, that’s huge, and I don’t know how I can appreciate what Healesville’s issues are, because I’m not there all the time - I’m not local.”

Cr Callanan said the proposed change would be the biggest ward change in the Yarra Ranges since the council began about 20 years ago.

He agreed with the VEC report’s statement that the change gave residents variety in councillors for their area, who may have different political views, but argued there was already a similar system.

“I guess, in a way ... if they don’t feel like they’re getting success with one councillor, they can go to another - so that’s where it becomes fair,” Cr Callanan said.

“They can do that now - there is the opportunity to come to the mayor to say ‘I’m not having any success with the councillor’, and things can be looked at that way.

“I do believe that councillors here are very fair, and are open, and don’t have very political drives or agendas, and shouldn’t at this level of government.”

He said he was hoping to meet with Local Government Minister Natalie Hutchins to discuss the potential changes and council’s position.

147558 Picture: CONTRIBUTED stated a preference for keeping the current council structure with nine wards (Option A), most public submitters favoured changing to three major wards (Option B).

The report said the three wards would address concerns about splitting townships more than the other options, which was an issue of contention for some submitters.

“Option B reflected the strong message in preliminary submissions that a three-ward model of three councillors in each ward would be the best way to represent the three major geographic communities of the municipality,” the report read.

“Option B has strong and clearly identifiable ward boundaries reflecting these communities of interest.

“The three-ward structure with three councillors per ward is considered by the VEC to be less vulnerable to the impacts of the population growth pattern, and is therefore a sustainable

model for the municipality into the future.”

An Option C, with different multicouncillor wards, was proposed - but was not supported by any public responses.

The Yarra Ranges Council, along with Cr Callanan, Cr Child and Cr Mike Clarke, made submissions in favour of keeping the current ward structure.

Healesville Action Group (HAG)’s John Anwin said he was “delighted and surprised” about the recommendation, with the group campaigning for the change at the 2007 electoral review.

“Needless to say, we are very pleased,” he said.

“I know there is a lot of concern that vested interest groups would stand three councillors on a ticket, and perhaps eliminate independent people, and I guess that’s up for the ratepayers now to be more vigilant about who

they vote for.

“It’s the old adage of you get the government that you deserve, and I think that’s pretty true at all levels.”

The VEC report said the body considered increasing the councillor numbers to 11, to be consistent with similar councils in Victoria, but noted “significantly higher numbers of voters and rapid population growth” in 11-councillor councils.

“The VEC concluded that the Yarra Ranges Shire Council did not require a change to the number of councillors based on its current population or projected rate of growth,” the report read.

The recommendations were submitted to Local Government Minister Natalie Hutchins to be considered - if accepted, the changes will come into effect for the October 2016 council elections.

Same old, same old

Town on the margins

IT HAS taken much too long for the government to realise that the DSE (presently hiding under the banner of the DELWP) are recklessly incompetent and that you don’t give such an organisation burning quotas.

Why did the Lancefield disaster have to occur for those in power to come to their senses?

It matters not what changes are made, simply keep the DELWP well away from the Dandenong Ranges.

The CFA are now whinging that their time and resources are being wasted by having to attend to unregistered private land burn-offs.

Who pays for this?

After all your burning off support, perhaps this is a bit of karma.

The CFA’s website states “... please give ESTA prior notification ..."

Why “please“, shouldn’t it be ‘must’?

How many private land burn-offs are actually registered?

What controls are being implemented by the CFA and ESTA when a burner registers their proposed burn-off to take place on a hot and windy day?

Yes, this burn-off got out of control.

Why haven’t the local councils requested ESTA registration for private land burn-offs?

Do the councils and the CFA consider that untrained and uneducated (with respect to the use of fire) private land burners are better equipped for making fires than the disaster creating DELWP? Do they think that burners actually comply with the local laws or consider the health and safety of their neighbours?

Some might, but most don’t.

The DELWP’s poor management has been exposed yet again.

The CFA’s treatment of its volunteers (Fiskville, compensation for smoke exposure etc) is appalling.

There have been some improvements as I consider that the public is more aware of their rights with regard to their health and safety and the volume of private land burning seems to be decreasing.

I HAVE lived in Cockatoo for 28 years and I love the place.

The people, for the most part, are great, too, but I look around and I am sad, mostly because it seems that we count for nothing, council-wise.

One side of us is Pakenham and the other Emerald.

We were ill-served by two councillors, both from Emerald, who drove through on their way to council meetings.

It was as if we didn’t exist. We are better than that.

We fought to keep our kinder, and I don’t want to big note myself, but with the help of fellow citizens I stopped the Vodafone tower being built.

I still have the signatures - there are 350 of them, not bad for a small town of like-minded people. I only had eight days to do that.

We need so much in our town: a public toilet, a huge priority, and it to be on McBride Street.

I know there are toilets in Bailey Road near the bowls club, they are disgusting, and if people come into the town and have to go down there, well, they don’t come back and they will go on to Emerald.

What about a barbecue? A big one down near the kinder.

There is plenty of room and, speaking of which, what days is the kinder open? It is a huge part of our history.

A couple more benches for McBride Street, at least one possibly near the op-shop or in that vicinity. There are a dozen shops, two are vacant - one for over a year.

Just a thought, what about a place where there would be a locksmith, someone to cut keys.

I locked myself out a few weeks ago (the drama). No locksmith for miles and miles.

And, hey Cardinia shire, why don’t we get Christmas decorations anymore? We pay our rates, too.

There is much that can be done for us, and should be done for us.

I could go on and on. My kids say “on your hobby horse again, mum?” Well, why not?

Our hidden weakness

By VICTORIA STONE-MEADOWS TUESDAY 25 November saw the 12th White Ribbon Day in Australia.

It's a day where men’s violence against women comes to the forefront, and we as a nation discuss our problem with respect for women.

Terms such as ‘domestic violence’ and ‘family violence’ detract from the fact that this is a national crisis that overwhelmingly begins with men.

VicHealth stats show in the 2013-'14 year, men committed 83.9 per cent of domestic violence offences against women.

In the same period, Victoria Police attended 1,373 domestic violence incidents in the Yarra Ranges alone. Children were present at 479 of them.

Charges were laid in only 589 of those incidents.

The violence that men perpetrate against women in our society is due to an entrenched and unchecked insidious attitude towards gender.

It is shown through “harmless” jokes and dismissal of issues affecting women as “just women’s business.”

Through these “jokes” and dismissals we continue to reinforce women as second-class citizens and reinforce men as entitled to control women.

When we fail to properly include women in society we turn a blind eye to the fact that approximately one woman a week is killed by her current or former partner.

Once we recognise and accept that this is problem in our society perpetrated by men, it’s time to address how we can counteract these toxic attitudes.

It’s time to teach both young

men and women what is acceptable in a relationship.

It’s time we teach young men that expressing emotions through outlets other than violence is not a sign of weakness and allowing themselves to be vulnerable is not a cop-out.

It’s time we impressed on young men they are not entitled to ownership over a woman.

It’s time we teach young women that they do not owe men their love or subservience regardless of their relationship.

It’s time we made some serious changes to the way we all approach gender equality so power balances within relationships do not lead to violence but until we accept the root of the problem, we cannot make those changes.

ONE of New Zealand’s most celebrated, enduring rock bands is tuning up for a special gig at the Sooki Lounge on Thursday, 10 December.

After the release of their acclaimed ninth studio album, FVEY, Shihad will be delivering their renowned raw sound to plenty of eager punters.

Frontman Jon Toogood told the Mail that audiences could expect a mix of old Shihad favourites and songs from the new album, a release he described as the band’s “best in 10 years” and one of which the members were exceptionally proud.

Critics seem to agree, too, with the album being described as one of their ‘angriest’ and greatest.

Toogood said it had been an incredible journey for the band, which has now notched up 25 years together, not to mention plenty of accolades and album sales.

“I remember way back in high school when we were all just dweebs playing in a band, hanging out in the music room all day,” he said.

“We were in the music room so much, they just gave us the keys.

Founding members Toogood, Phil Knight and Tom Larkins share a special bond, after forming the band in their early teens.

“We are a family ... we probably don’t see as much of each other as we used to, but as a band we’re tight,” he said.

ing or guitar-breaking of earlier times seems to be off the agenda.

“No way, I’ve got a Martin D-18 guitar that’s probably worth more than I am,” Toogood said.

“I want to play it, not break it.”

Business owner Rebecca Currie said there was something new in the premises all the time, which was sure to keep customers happy and interested.

The business stocks a healthy offering of rustic furniture, ladders, old treasures and rustic wedding decorations.

Rebecca said customers were spoilt for choice.

“We offer custom work for all customers, pain that lasts and great wax to finish,” she said.

She said the townsfolk had embraced the concept, which was pleasing to see.

“I have to say that the people in Monbulk have welcomed me into their little town and it’s great,” she said.

“I love being creative with furniture, everything needs a second chance at life.”

“It’s just myself, my husband ‘Red’ and two children, Tyler and Brody.”

Rebecca said it had been fantastic to watch a dream turn into a reality.

“I started painting in my

own garage and now have my own shop,” she said.

“This shows that dreams can happen if you put your mind to it.”

The business will be involved in the upcoming Merry Monbulk Street Party.

Opening hours are Wednesday to Sunday, 9.30am to 5.30pm (closed Mondays and Tuesdays).

CROYDON Cinemas is introducing reserved seating for peak sessions from 17 December.

The ability to guarantee a seat at the cinema will make life easier for movie fans, who will no longer have to endure stress with the uncertainty of guaranteeing a seat or having to wait in long queues.

Reserved or numbered seats remove any doubt as to the availability of good seats at peak times, enabling cinemagoers to roll up just before the movie starts or straight to the candy bar. Director of Croydon Cinemas, George Aleksiunas, said the change meant families and groups of friends heading to the movies would no longer have to separate from one another just to find a seat.

“No more will families need to go searching for seats just to sit together during our very busy school holiday periods,” Mr Aleksiunas said.

The new numbered system allows movie-goers to log on to the Croydon Cinemas website and choose their seats to ensure they have the seats that they want.

“This system helps us effectively manage crowds safely and responsibly,” he said.

“The end result is better service from informed decisions.”

This comes with perfect timing with the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which is set to be one of the biggest movie releases in history and has already sold hundreds of seats for both 3D and 2D sessions in the opening week.

Mr Aleksiunas said the response from moviegoers so far had been positive.

“Our customers are increasingly planning their visits to the cinema in advance for movies and events,” Mr Aleksiunas said.

Mr Aleksiunas said there would not be any increases in price associated with the reserve seating policy.

Getting you to the Pinnacle of health YEAR 2015 for Pinnacle Health Club in Upwey was all about offering new and improved training options to give members every chance to stay motivated and gain the education to get results.

To do this, they introduced a newlook, 12-week challenge program - Pinnacle Performance HIIT style training sessions, Results Boot Camp, Running club - and free fun runs for members to attend.

Throughout the year, they had over 200 members involved in our 12-week challenge programs or results boot camp with some outstanding results.

They had well over 100,000 visits to the gym.

Victory elusive

World title for Mike Reefman

By VICTORIA STONE-MEADOWS MACCLESFIELD Motocross champion Mike Reefman has taken out another world title at the World Vet Motocross Championships at the Glen Helen Racetrack in San Bernardino, California.

Reefman was invited to participate in the event by Yamaha and took out first place in the 45 years and over expert racing class.

Reefman has been racing motocross since he was 10 years old and said events like this give him a chance to meet and ride against some of the sport’s top competitors.

“It was to race with a few people I knew,” he said. “Riders I have looked up to and watched so many times on TV. It’s a great feeling to ride against some of my heroes.”

Reefman holds a number of Victorian, Australian and world titles with this title another added to his impressive track record.

Reefman said he was very happy with result of the race.

“There were riders representing 20 countries, the best in their age groups, I would been very happy to finish in the top ten,” he said.

Reefman said he has no plans of giving up the high-octane sport anytime soon and encourages young people to get involved as well.

“It’s a great sport for young people to get into and look up to riders,” he said.

“It has a reputation for bad boys but all have to be in really good health I don’t drink or smoke, there are some excellent role models in this sport.”

EMERALD GOLF EXCUSES for incompetence at Emerald Golf Club last Saturday were invalid but tendered aplenty anyway.

The course was looking a treat and the ‘Big Shiny’ was doing its best to make conditions comfortable. The pairings were organised and away they went.

At play’s end, it was no surprise at all that Broc Reynolds (16) and Steve Town (7) came in as victors with a nett score of 60.

Chasing them right to the wire were Ken Hill and Leigh Morison (9.5) on 60.5. Peter Glasscock and Ross Martin (5.75) came next with 61.25, followed by Mark Starick and Dave Aitken (9.5) in close attendance on 62.5. Ben Balfour and Graham White (9) chased the leading pairs in with 63. The rest finished way back, lamenting poor shots and evil spirits or some such.

Sepp Krummenacher was nearest the pin on the 4th, Glasscock on the 7th and 12th, Morison the 13th and Town topped off his day by taking out the pro pin bullion on the 18th.

A goodly bunch of ungodly fellows rolled in on Wednesday for the weekly dose of Old and Faded Golf (OFG). Conditions were good and the scoring outstanding.

Seppy Krummenacher (22) scored 44 points to win. Ian Scott (27) scored 43, Geoff Whittaker (27) 42, Graeme Fergus (19) 41 while Dennis Fuller (12) and Leigh Morison (20) both amassed 40 points.

Next Saturday members compete for the last VGL medal of the year.

By STEVE BROWN FERNTREE Gully remain at the top of the Reeves Shield ladder after dispatching last season’s finalist Eildon Park by 41 runs to complete round five.

The new-look young Blues’ outfit has bonded like cement and are taking on all before them.

After bowlers Galvin and Handley dismissed the Panthers for 178, the Gully batted the day to finish 6/219 with Patrick Mastertoun coming of age with a fine 77. Former Upper Gully wicketkeeper Darren Osbourne chipped in with 48 and Jayden Bradbury continued his good form with 40.

The Blues face their biggest test next week against reigning premiers Johnson Park.

Knoxfield proved too strong for The Basin at Batterham Reserve. Defending 246, the Knights knocked over Clarke and Best early before The Basin recovered to 2/77 at the tea break.

THE gruelling Vertical K SkyRace put runner against cyclist on 29 November when racers took off from Warburton for the second major cycling event in Warburton in two weeks.

Cyclists climbed 1077 metres from their starting point in Warburton to the summit of Mount Donna Buang against runners who climbed 1098 metres.

Sam Maffett, General Manager of Rapid Ascent who bought this event to the Yarra Valley, said the day was a huge success.

“Today was a real test of strength and of character for all competitors,” he said.

“This style of event is not for everyone; you have to be able to really push through the pain barrier.

“In saying that, the course passes through some absolutely stunning rainforest and it was great to seeing competitors spurring each other on and providing support to help others reach the summit.”

While the events bought in runners and cyclists from all over, many locals got involved in the event as well.

Milli Troon from Healesville competed in the running component of the Vertical K and said it was a challenging but rewarding event.

“It was absolutely exhausting but just brilliant, the scenery was wonderful,” she said.

“The fog set in about three quarters of the way up the hill but it made for a magical, mystical setting. It’s so nice to have an event like this in our area.”

Jeff Gill from the Warburton Advancement League was a volunteer on the day and said the event was of benefit to local groups as well.

“It was brilliant,” he said.

“Community groups such as the Advancement League, Redwoods Centre and the CFA supplied volunteers and got up to $80 per volunteer for their organisations.”
