PM’s Indi agenda By ERIN SOMERVILLE TONY Abbott will be making his first stop in Wodonga next month since becoming the Australian Prime Minister to launch a multimillion dollar project. It was announced last week that Mr Abbott would be in the Border city to unveil the Spirit of Anzac travelling exhibition in September. Wodonga will be the first stop on the $35 million travelling exhibition circuit. The announced visit has been welcomed by Independent Indi MP Cathy McGowan, despite former Liberal MP Sophie Mirabella having recently announced her candidacy for the electorate. Ms Mirabella is a friend of Mr Abbott’s and was expected to hold a spot in his cabinet prior to losing the Indi seat in 2013. Ms McGowan has beaten back suggestions that the Prime Minister’s visit is a ploy to win more Liberal Indi votes, and looks forward to welcoming him to her electorate. “Not at all, the Spirit of Anzac Centenary Exhibition is of major national significance, Ms McGowan said. “It’s fantastic the Australian War Memorial has chosen Indi for the opening and it is fitting the Prime Minister Tony Abbott will attend. The Prime Minister’s office could not confirm if further items and appearances would be included on his Indi agenda. Meanwhile, Ms McGowan will be meeting with Prime Minister Abbott next Wednesday prior to his Indi visit, with infrastructure, job creation, rail, mobile phone coverage and NBN on her agenda. Farrer MP and Minister assisting the Prime Minister for the Centenary of Anzac Sussan Ley is also eager to welcome Mr Abbott to the Border to launch the exhibition.

Tony Abbott will be heading to the Border in September. “This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our region to see this collection so close to home, and I would encourage everyone to consider booking a time to attend the exhibition, she said. “The travelling exhibition is an excellent way for us to get involved with the Anzac Centenary and learn more about our important wartime history. “The exhibition will contain many rare and unique artefacts that will be touring our nation for the first time. The nation’s launch location for the Spirit of Anzac Centenary Experience will be at Wodonga Sports and Leisure Centre from 4 to 10 September 2015. Bookings for individuals and for groups of up to 30 people can be made at www.spiritofanzac.gov.au
Ned Kelly comes alive
BEECHWORTH took a step back in time over the weekend to reflect on the town’s bushranger heritage.
