No foul play POLICE have found that the death of a 20-year-old man in the middle of a Pakenham street on Tuesday night was not suspicious. On Wednesday morning, Homicide Squad detectives were piecing together the last movements of the man who was found by a passer-by about 10pm on Tuesday. Police and ambulance officers were called to Kosta Boda Boulevard in the Fallingwater estate off Irving Road after a motorist found him lying in the middle of the road. By Wednesday afternoon, investigators had received the results from the post mortem and the Homicide Squad had bowed out of the investigation and ruled out any foul play. Homicide Squad Detective Senior Sergeant Shane O’Connell said earlier in the day that ambulance officers had administered CPR for a considerable time before the man died at the scene. He said he could not expand on the man’s injuries or who else may have been at the scene. “A post-mortem will be carried out to determine the cause of death and the investigation will progress from there,” he told the gathered media at 7.50am. Det Sen Sgt O’Connell said the man was from the Pakenham area, but was not a resident of that street. He said it was not likely the man had been hit by a car. “At this stage it is a mystery to us how a young 20-year-old male was found in the middle of a suburban street,” he said. Police spent the morning canvassing neighbours before calling off the investigation later in the day. Police will now prepare a report for the Coroner. AN UNDER-UTILISED and dilapidated park in Pakenham’s heart is undergoing major renovations. Cardinia Shire Council has installed new playground equipment as part of the first stage of works at Bourke Park opposite

Pakenham Railway Station. Other improvements will include a new public toilet, shelter and seating, a new pathway, improved lighting, landscaping, street art and improvements to the existing stage structure. “This project is a fantastic op-

portunity to bring Bourke Park back to life and hand a great public space back to the community,” Cardinia Shire mayor Graeme Moore said. “It is important that visitors to Pakenham, who arrive by train or bus, are presented with a fun and

lively space where residents enjoy spending time with family and friends. “I can’t wait to see the finished product and celebrate the completion of the project with the Pakenham community.”
