Front yard bomb By DANIELLE GALVIN A SUSPECTED molotov cocktail was left on a Pakenham woman’s front yard in Funston Court early on Friday morning. Margaret Moore said it was “pretty scary” when she stumbled upon the wine bottle with petrol or diesel in it. “It was early on Friday morning; I was sitting up watching the cricket,” she said. “The dogs went racing out the door and they were barking like mad. “We didn’t think anything of it and I went out and brought them in.” It wasn’t until later that day, around lunchtime, that she would discover the item. “On the Friday morning I went over to my son-inlaw’s and then he came over at about 1 or 2pm,” she said. “He was changing showerheads and I had to go and turn the water off. “When I went and did that, I found this bottle sitting there and I thought, what’s that?” At first Ms Moore thought it was a wine bottle left there accidentally by someone, until she picked it up and smelt it. When she brought it back inside, her son-inlaw told her it was a molotov cocktail and to call the police. “They came in pretty quick and asked where I found it,” Ms Moore said. “I’ve kept the bottle and if I find another one I will

take it down to the police station.” Ms Moore said even if it was just a group of young kids “mucking around” it was worrying and their intention was cause for concern. “If they lit it, it could cause injury and it was close to the house,” she said. “I think the dogs must have frightened them. “It has got me worried and it is a concern.” The police officers who attended told Ms Moore that it was a quiet street that didn’t cause them any hassles. “They said there has really been no trouble there,” she said. “I said, yes I know - it’s a very quiet court.” Ms Moore said it dawned on her when she showed her son-in-law what it was. “Where did they make it and where did they fill it up?” she said. “We haven’t heard of anyone taking petrol from cars.” There are few disturbances, although Ms Moore said her grandson had seen some young people wandering around late at night. “My grandson has seen young boys walking around nearby - five or six of them,” she said. “The neighbours here are really good; we all get on and look after each other. “It is a shame.” Ms Moore said she wanted to let others know if they found anything else similar to contact the police.
