MESSAGE FROM ADMINISTRATION Dear School Families, We thank our volunteers and families for making the beginning of the year awesome!

Room parents are in place and we look forward to working with them this year. We thank everyone for sharing their time and talent with us. We're already at the mid–point of the 1st quarter. Time just flies when we're having fun!

Our Discipleship Message for the week focuses on Bullying Awareness Week. This week is a great opportunity to be reminded of how Jesus calls us all as Disciples to make good choices, show love in our actions and words, and live for Him in all we do. Since the school year began we’ve seen and heard great examples of discipleship in action – students making an effort to include others, especially our new students, students showing respect to one another, and even students standing up for one another. All of this is awesome!

Our challenge is to keep the momentum going and as Disciples make our school a bully free school. Let’s join together and respect those who are different than us. Let’s encourage the victims or bystanders by letting them know it is okay to stand up against a bully. Let’s serve one another by standing up for victims of bullying letting them know they are a child of God and they matter. Together we can show compassion and understanding for both the victim and the bully. We can pray for all victims, bullies and bystanders. As Disciples of Christ, what will each one of us do to be Christ–like and stop or prevent bullying at SAOPCS? It gives us great pleasure to introduce and welcome our new pastoral year seminarian, Ryan Stawaisz. Please help us receive him warmly into our St. Anthony of Padua Catholic School community.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS How do I register for Fall Conferences?

Registration for Fall Conferences is done through PTC Wizard (http://staopcs.ptcwizard.com). Registration will open on October 6th. Parents may setup a log–in and password before registration opens.

What is Student Insurance?

St. Anthony of Padua Catholic School provides a secondary insurance plan for student accident coverage for all students enrolled. This program will include coverage for all students (Pre–K through 8) while attending or participating in school–sponsored and supervised activities on or off premises. The insurance is What is Mission Matters: POD? in excess of any other valid coverage, but becomes Mission Matters P.O.D. (Points of Discussion) is a new Parent Seminar Series that administration will be hosting primary if no other insurance is available. More throughout the school year. We look forward to sharing information about the Basic and Catastrophic Accident Insurance Program for Archdiocese of Galveston– a variety of topics with our families this year. Our first Houston 2016–2017 is available in Resources on topic is the “Aim for Success” Anti–bullying Parent ParentsWeb and on our website.

How early may I drop off my children at school?

For their safety, students should be dropped off in carline no earlier than 7:40 a.m. If you need an earlier drop– off, please utilize BAASP.

ROSARY MONTH

In the Classroom:

The month of October is dedicated to the Rosary, and after the Mass, the Rosary is the most powerful prayer at our disposal. St. John Paul II often said that the Rosary is a prayer of peace, and he encouraged families to pray the Rosary together. Please sign up for a day that your family will pray the Rosary together.

Grade Level Competition!

Our first competition of the year will be grade level vs. grade level. Let’s see who can bring in the most box tops! Winners will receive a free dress day!      

Tuesday: DNN Special Presentation  Parents are welcome to join us in the school lobby at 8:00 a.m. to watch DNN (Dolphin News Network).

Wednesday: MIX & MINGLE (M&M) Day  Mass with an Anti–bullying message  Mix & Mingle (M&M) DAY! Please encourage your students to spend time with classmates they do not know as well during recess/social time and lunch.

Thursday: Wear BLUE Day  All students will wear either their BLUE uniform shirt, skort or shorts as a statement of peace and solidarity that we are committed to creating a bully– free school.

EARLY CHILDHOOD/ELEMENTARY NEWS LAST WEEK TO SIGN–UP!

This year we will be offering the Jr. Master Gardening Program for Kindergarten through 5th grade. We will not have an outside garden this year but will focus on container gardening.

PARENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

The program Learn, Grow, Eat and Go is about growing good kids through Interdisciplinary elements of nutrition, garden science, physical activity, and fresh vegetable tasting to improve the health and wellness of children, family and the school community.

Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades will meet on the first Thursday of the month at 3:45 p.m.—5:15 p.m.
