MESSAGE FROM ADMINISTRATION Dear School Families, Fall is officially here—we just hope the milder temperatures will follow soon! We thank everyone for getting involved so far this year—it has been wonderful seeing our new families volunteering in car line, the library and as room parents! Thank you for sharing your time and talent with us.

Our Discipleship Message for the week reminds us of how Jesus calls us all as Disciples to make good choices, show love in our actions and words and live for Him in all we do as we prepare for Bullying Awareness Week. Our theme for the week is going to be Courage to Be Kind. Since the school year began we’ve seen and heard great examples of discipleship and kindness in action – students making an effort to include others especially our new students, students showing respect for one another, and even students standing up for one another. All of this is awesome! Our challenge is to keep the momentum going and as Disciples make our school a bully free school and a school where kindness matters. Let’s join together and respect those who are different. Let’s encourage the victims or bystanders in bullying situations letting them know it is okay to stand up against a bully.

Let’s serve one another by standing up for victims of bullying letting them know they are a child of God and they matter. Together we can show compassion and understanding for both the victim and the bully and we can pray for victims, bullies and bystanders. We also remember that Jesus wants us to learn to forgive one another, solve conflicts and repair relationships that are broken through bullying or other means. It fosters kindness and restores peace in our classrooms, on the playground and throughout our school community. There is no better time than Bullying Awareness Week to repair a broken relationship and live in the JOY that God wants for those who love one another. As Disciples of Christ, what will each one of us do to be Christ–like and stop or prevent bullying at STAOPCS and build a community where kindness is what we are known for?

It gives us great pleasure to introduce and welcome our new pastoral year seminarian, Thuc Nguyen and our new Beyond the Bell staff member, Yvette Flot. Please help us receive them warmly into our St. Anthony of Padua Catholic School community. We hope you will “Be Our Guest” on Thursday, Sept. 28th for our first Family Open House where your students will lead the tour and show you their favorite parts of school—don’t forget to join us at Crust Pizza Alden Bridge that evening as well. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS How does STAOPCS conduct conferences?

How early may I drop off my children at school?

Formal Conferences are held twice a year at the end of first and third quarters. The conferences are meant to be positive and include input from parents, students and teachers. These conferences are required by the Archdiocese and must be attended by a parent and the student. Fall conferences are being held on October 19th and 20th.

For their safety, students should be dropped off in carline no earlier than 7:40 a.m. If you need an earlier drop–off, please utilize Beyond the Bell Before Care.

How do I register for Fall Conferences?

Registration for Fall Conferences is done through PTC Wizard (http://staopcs.ptcwizard.com). Registration will open on October 5th at 9 a.m. Parents may setup a log–in and password before registration opens.

My child is growing like a weed—do you have used uniforms available?

Yes! We have a Used Uniform storage area just off the main area of our school office. Parents are welcome to come look through used uniforms during regular office hours—donations are appreciated and accepted by the Front Desk.

VOLUNTEER HANDBOOK & OPPORTUNITIES

Help provide support to STAOPCS families directly affected by Hurricane Harvey. We have established St. Anthony of Padua Catholic School Harvey Relief Fund and the funds will be allocated specifically to help families affected in the STAOPCS community with tuition, fees, and before and after care so they can rebuild their lives.

Mix & Mingle (M&M) DAY! Encourage students to spend time with classmates they do not know as well, during recess/social time and lunch.  Kindness challenge: Leave a kind note of appreciation for your parents thanking them for all they do.

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 3 | DISNEY TOURIST DAY  All students are encouraged to wear Disney–themed shirts, hats, glasses and socks with their uniform bottoms today!  All STAOPCS students who wear their Disney tourist outfit to the soccer game @ 4:30 p.m. will receive a free snow cone.

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 4 | JERSEY DAY  All students will wear their official school uniform and attend all–school mass today. STAOPCS fall athletes participating in cross country, football, soccer or volleyball at STAOPCS are invited to wear their STAOPCS sport jersey over their official school uniform and receive a special blessing at mass today.  HOMECOMING FOOTBALL GAME @ 4:30 P.M. There will be fun, food and games until 6:30 p.m.! Cheer camp girls will join the Angels in cheering from the stands and performing at half–time. The STAOPCS band will also perform! You can grab some dinner and dessert from the food trucks on campus and join our Student Council as they host fun activities like face painting and gaming in our "fun zone!"  As a special added treat...Wednesday is a NO HOMEWORK night!!!
