RESPECT LIFE INTENTI ONS Sept. 21,

That the concerns people have about money may never be greater than their readiness to welcome and cherish the gift of children, we pray to the Lord…

Have You Considered Donating Stock or Mutual Funds?

Donating stock can be a highly effective philanthropic strategy that benefits both you and St. Anthony on the Lake. When you donate appreciated stock that you have held for more than one year, you can avoid paying long-term capital gains tax on the increase in value, which can be as high as 20% federally, plus an additional 3.8% net investment income tax in some cases.

This allows you to make a larger contribution than if you had sold the stock and donated the after -tax proceeds, potentially increasing the gift by up to 20% or more.

In addition to avoiding capital gains tax, you can claim a charitable tax deduction for the full fair market value of the donated stock on the date of the donation, provided you itemize your deductions.

This deduction is subject to limits, generally capped at 30% of your adjusted gross income (AGI) for the tax year; any excess can be carried forward for up to five years. Check with your financial advisor for more details on how this applies to your personnel situation.

Individuals aged 70 ½ or older can make tax -free donations directly from their personal IRA to a

St. Anthony on the Lake. The qualified charitable distribution (QCD), also known as an IRA charitable rollover, has specific rules that need to be followed.

The donation must be transferred directly from the IRA custodian to St. Anthony on the Lake, either via electronic transfer or check, and must be completed by December 31 of the year to qualify for that year's tax benefits.

The funds are excluded from taxable income, meaning you pay no income tax on the distribution, and the amount can count toward satisfying the donor's required minimum distribution (RMD).

This is beneficial even for individuals who do not itemize deductions, as QCDs are not a deduction but an exclusion from income. Again, consult your financial advisor for more information.

If you plan to make a donation of stock, mutual funds or a donation from your IRA, please let the parish office know your intent. When contributions are transferred to the parish, the donor’s name is not always communicated to us. We currently have two donations that were processed through Stiffel Investments where the donor was not identified.

St. Anthony on the Lake can operate the ministries we have because of the generosity of our members. Thank you for all you do for our community!

CONGRATULATIONS

Thank you for your dedication and service!

For many of us, our knowledge of the contributions of African Americans in America is limited. Traditionally, the contributions and stories of people of color in America have been omitted or ignored. During this lecture we will examine the many contributions of African Americans and fully understand that Black History is indeed U.S. History. On this 60 -90 minute journey, you will meet people and hear stories that will amaze and inspire you. Registration is encouraged but not required.
