Inaugural Season 2015–2016 Lovingly Dedicated to Ron Feiner We’re putting the final touches on the new St. Ann’s Warehouse, the crowning essentials that transform a 19th Century Tobacco Warehouse into a spectacular 21st Century theater. A vital presence on the cultural landscape for 37 years, St. Ann’s Warehouse has a new theater rising on the East River at a scale and magnitude of amplified proportions. Its simple, honest and utilitarian materials recall the waterfront’s industrial past and a port through which the world first encountered New York and Brooklyn. n the heels of the Donmar’s revelatory production of Julius Caesar, which empowered women to play Shakespearean roles normally reserved for men, director Phyllida Lloyd has set a second play, Henry IV, against the backdrop of women in prison. Harriet Walter, “one of the best Shakespeareans alive” (The Guardian), will once again lead a diverse and exciting all-female cast in Shakespeare’s monumental history play which travels to the heart of family, duty and country.

woman meets a couple in a hotel parking lot. All three are nervous. They have come to seal a pact. Walsh’s fifth American Premiere at St. Ann’s, The Last Hotel reunites the creators of Misterman (with Cillian Murphy) and arrives after engagements at the Royal Opera House, Edinburgh International and Dublin Theatre Festivals. “Dennehy’s 12-piece ensemble includes accordion, electric guitar and heavy percussion… [that] thrums with a savage, unstoppable groove” (The Guardian). Conducted (alternately) by André de Ridder and Alan Pierson, The Last Hotel features singers Claudia Boyle, Robin Adams, Katherine Manley and actor Mikel Murfi.

Festival embraces a variety of new puppetry works developed in the Lab over the course of a year, presented in two Programs A and B. This year’s festival artists explore the life-long friendship of Marcel Duchamp and Man Ray; hitch a ride on a dirigible; follow a humble dot on a journey for independence; and bring a National Geographic episode to the stage.

n a frozen Minnesota lake, the ice is beginning to creak and groan. It’s the end of the fishing season, and two men are out on the ice angling for answers to life’s larger questions.

One of these men is hilariously wrought by the TONY and Olivier Award-winning Mark Rylance, who co-wrote the play—his first—with the American poet Louis Jenkins. Rylance and Jenkins have adapted Nice Fish with the same wry, surreal quality of Jenkins’ prose poems.

Minnesota Monthly called an original version of the play “inexplicable and utterly beautiful.” This newly produced version of Nice Fish comes to St. Ann’s directly from Cambridge’s A.R.T.

rguably, St. Ann’s Warehouse is the only NY theater capable of staging Benedict Andrews’ maverick production of A Streetcar Named Desire, featuring Gillian Anderson, Ben Foster, Corey Johnson and Vanessa Kirby. With its transparent, revolving set, all conversations are overheard, there’s nowhere to hide and the ensuing tragedy purposefully spins toward its inevitable last line.

The New York Times called the production “a wounding portrait of communal loss.”
