Friday 10 June Join us for a special Tudor-themed day, when we will be joined by King Henry VIII from Select Society for a special performance of their new play, Conflict Between the Church & State: An Audience with King Henry VIII. This play is perfect for Year 6 and KS3 pupils. Tickets are available for school bookings on our website.
Saturday 11 June, 10am - 11.30am Travel back to 1542 and have an audience with King Henry VIII as he contemplates the events of recent years which have weighted heavily upon him. His majesty will even invite his loyal subjects to question him on any related subject: a lively Q&A is assured! Suitable for children 8+ Tickets £7, available from our website.
On display from mid-June As part of our Tudor Summer programme, our cathedral archive team have put together this exhibition exploring the impact of the reformation on St Albans Abbey. Free, no booking required.
Tudor Trail
Available from mid-June Discover different aspects of the Tudor era through this self-guided trail of St Albans Cathedral. Taking you to many different parts of the cathedral which have links to the Tudor era and Reformation, this trail will demonstrate how the Abbey was changed during the Reformation and unearth some of hidden remnants from that time. Free, available from the Welcome Centre.
Storytelling with Tales from the Hart
Tuesday 26 July, 10am - 12noon Start the summer holidays off right and join Tales From the Hart for a feast for the eyes and ears. These storytellers will bring the past to life with some Tudor tales. Free, no booking required.
History Alive: Talk to the Tudors

Tudor Secrets and Seals | Family Workshop
Tuesday 2 and Saturday 13 August, 10am and 11.45am How did the Tudor’s keep their important messages private? With wax seals of course! Join our Summer Artist in Residence, Georgia Holleran, to make a wax seal of your very own. Tickets £6, available from our website.
Tudor Hertfordshire
Thursday 4 August, 7.30pm, Alban Room A talk exploring aspects of the Tudor era through contemporary Hertfordshire documents. Speaker - Hertfordshire Archives and Local Studies. Tickets £10, available from our website.
Tudor Evensong
Sunday 4 September, 6pm Acclaimed vocal group Pro Victoria return to St Albans Cathedral for this special Evensong. In this service, newly discovered settings of psalms, canticles, and anthems, set to music by composers from the 16th century, such as Sheppard, Taverner, Tallis, and Parsons, will open a window on some of the music and worship known by the Tudor church and court.
