Spread across three lectures, these talks will delve into the turbulent history of Byzantium and question how such a history shaped the aesthetics and function of the art produced during this time. The Queen and the Mistress: Female Power at Medieval English Court
Thursday 16 June, 7.30pm, Alban Room and online via Zoom Medieval England was a man’s world, but women could and did hold their own power and wealth. Two of the most influential women at the court of King Edward III were his wife, Philippa of Hainault, and his mistress, Alice Perrers. Find out how they wielded their power and used their femininity to control those around them. Open 10am - 2pm Monday - Friday, and 10am - 1pm on the first and third Saturdays of every month The library at St Albans Cathedral is a modern theological lending library which offers members a wide range of resources on topics such as theology, biblical studies, philosophy and ethics.
