There are plenty of fun activities, events and interactive experiences to keep our young visitors entertained.

YPPT Puppet Performances

Wednesday 4 May, 6pm and 7pm Watch your favourite Cathedral characters come to life as marionette puppets. The puppets have been created by Cathedral volunteers and the shows will be performed by Year 5 students from Mandeville Primary School. 6pm | The Crossing Place

A re-imagination of the Alban story and how a mysterious stranger helped Alban become Britain’s first Christian martyr. 7pm | A Grim Day Out

Tells the story of Lord Grimthorpe, the Cathedral’s eccentric Victorian architect and how two children showed him what really matters. Tickets £3, available from our website.

Family Arts & Crafts

Wednesday 1 June, 10am, 11.45am and 2pm Join us for a special family art and crafts day, led by the Cathedral’s artist in residence. Children and parents can learn about the many kings and queens who have visited the Cathedral over the years before creating a fantastic Royal piece of art. Tickets £8, available from our website.

Family Discovery Mornings

Selected Thursdays Family Discovery Mornings are free events aimed at children during school holidays. They typically include an interactive trail, and arts and crafts activities. This summer, meet the Romans, talk to the Victorians, and hear stories from the Tudors. Come along to experience one for yourself! Thursday 11 August, 1pm - 3pm | Radical Romans Spend the afternoon learning all about the Romans. Thursday 18 August, 10.30am - 2.30pm | Terrific Tudors! Join our wonderful friends Tales from the Hart for a special morning all about Henry VIII and the Tudors. Thursday 25 August, 10.30am - 2.30pm | Victorious Victorians Spend a morning learning all about the Victorians. Free, no booking required.

Summer Term We are delighted with the return of our special Poetry Workshops, suitable for KS2 and KS3. Our professional poet, Elle DillonReams, is a talented Edinburgh Festival Award Winner, and will lead a fun, inspiring 90 minute workshop in the Cathedral, sharing ideas and techniques for finding inspiration, idea generation, and ultimately poetry writing. Available for school bookings on our website.

Cathedral activities

Available daily in our exhibition area, young visitors can enjoy interactive screens to take a look behind the scenes, brass rubbing, and have fun dressing up. We also have an amazing trail for Young Explorers, which you can pick up from the Cathedral Shop for £2, as well as our free digital tour.
