The Last Word

In July, the Year 12 cohort celebrated a huge milestone, 100 days of formal schooling left. In a year that hasn’t been what anyone expected, they have shown dedication and resilience and it was wonderful to see them celebrate this milestone. We asked Lily and Paris (School Captain and Vice-Captain) how they are feeling about finishing Year 12 and the next 100 days.

How does it feel to reach this milestone of only 100 days to go?

Lily: I am feeling both excited and nervous that this part of my life is ending. I’m nervous about leaving the home I’ve created over the past 8 years here with my sisters at St Aidan’s, but also excitement knowing that I have been well prepared for the outside world. Through sharing the same core value as the school, of compassion, I have been given amazing opportunities and support to connect with girls in every age-group which I will take with me forever.

Paris: It feels surreal to reach the home stretch after the past 6 years of schooling, to see everything ending. Looking back, I could not be prouder of how far our cohort has come. Having 100 days left only brings us all closer together, so it feels more of a beginning of a new chapter, rather than the closing of one.

Your last 100 days will contain many events, activities, and ceremonies, what are you most looking forward to and why?

Lily: I am mostly looking forward to the speeches on award night, the valedictory dinner, the pool jump and having our individualism shine though in personalising our white dresses for graduation. Not only this, but also being given the opportunity to reflect on this amazing year and to celebrate with our sisters and teachers as well! These events are what I look forward to all year, supporting and celebrating all the achievements of every girl here at St Aidan’s. Paris: Personally, I’m looking forward to the small events that we experience as a cohort, the little moments are the ones that stay with me the longest and are the ones I will reflect on in the years to come; however, I am really looking forward to the larger celebrations with the entire school that connect us all and bring us together for the final times of our schooling life.

What’s next?

Lily: I am really hoping to get into a medicine course somewhere in Queensland so either Griffith, UQ or JCU. I may do an undergraduate in a health science such as medical imaging or physiotherapy to then go into medicine as a post graduate degree. I’m really hoping to eventually specialise in paediatrics and then autism, as well as keep developing Speechability on the side. Paris: Next year I am really hoping to study medicine, with a view to eventually work in Aboriginal and remote community health. Before I start uni, I will be taking the break to celebrate finishing 13 years of schooling and to enjoy time with family and friends.
