The Brotherhood Awaits You. St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute

Lasallian Heritage & Mission

Tradition of Excellence since 1861 In 1861, six Christian Brothers arrived in Buffalo to educate young men. From those first days, St. Joe’s, the region’s oldest college prep school for boys, has provided an outstanding education shaped by its Lasallian Catholic heritage to thousands of students.

Lasallians follow the vision of St. John Baptist de La Salle, founder of the Brothers of the Christian Schools and patron saint of teachers. St. La Salle transformed education by prioritizing the student-teacher relationship, care for the whole person, and quality education for all. St. Joe’s Lasallian education focuses on Catholic values, personal relationships, and academic excellence. What started with six Brothers’ vision in Buffalo has now become the St. Joe’s Community of Excellence: an innovative college-prep school with over 160

years of tradition.

A Tradition Like No Other

The Brotherhood

The St. Joe’s Brotherhood. More than just a phrase, it’s an inclusive community, support system, and network of students, teachers, alumni, and friends. A tangible force that has been cultivated for over 160 years, the Brotherhood welcomes each St. Joe’s student and has a place for him and his unique interests and talents by prioritizing the student-teacher relationship, care for the whole person, spiritual development, and quality education for all.

The fabric of the Brotherhood is woven together by the strong threads of our Lasallian tradition instilled within generations of St. Joe’s men. Dr. Daniel Leberer ’02

Colorectal Surgeon with Buffalo Medical Group

“The culture at St. Joe’s encourages each student to pursue their own

path and to respect the path of others. I found myself challenged in the classroom and on the basketball court. This instilled in me the importance of taking pride in your work ethic, perseverance, and being passionate about achieving the goals you have set for yourself. By the time you graduate, you realize the education you received stretched far beyond the classroom. When I left St. Joe’s I was confident I had the foundation to achieve my goals, and I was motivated to make sure those goals would have a positive impact on others. Now, almost twenty years later, I still reflect on the values I learned at SJCI every day. I have been in many communities throughout my education and training. None have had a greater impact on my character and development than St. Joe’s has. I will always be proud and thankful to be a Marauder!”

Luis Rodriguez ’01

CEO of Rodriguez Construction Group

“St. Joe’s provided me with a strong character and academic

foundation that I have carried with me throughout my life. St. Joe’s excellent academics prepared me in the classroom, but I also learned to be welcoming to new opportunities and challenges in aspects of life, business, and community. The relationships with fellow alumni have been transformational to my business success. I have been mentored by brothers who came before me, and have also had the opportunity to pay it forward to new generations of St. Joe’s men. The brotherhood and relationships of our community are truly bonds created to last a lifetime.”
