Dear Parent or Carer, We are delighted to welcome back our Year 10s into the building from June 15th. The primary purpose of doing this is to support them with their wellbeing and to ensure that they are not disadvantaged in their learning by being out of school for over 12 weeks. Above all, we want to reconnect with our pupils in person, as we do every day in normal times, and re-establish the trusting and loving relationships that make our school a community. This process is one of welcome as well as induction, one that we will do in partnership with you as parents and carers.

The COVID pandemic is far from over and its impact will be with us for a long time to come. We want to ensure that your child is in the best position possible to learn, to play a part in society, to be resilient and cope with the ongoing challenges of this time and is thriving. The last few months have challenged us all to reconsider our priorities, to look hard at the way we live our lives and to appreciate things that perhaps previously we took for granted.

In bringing our pupils back into school we want to help them to navigate this new landscape and, as far as possible, make the very best of a time of adversity and uncertainty. Our approach is informed at every stage by our Catholic faith and values as expressed in the Ambrose Way. This document provides you with all the information you need to be reassured that this process is taking place safely. It also sets out our expectations and will help to prepare you and your child for coming into school.

OUR PLAN

FOR BRINGING

YEAR 10 BACK TO SCHOOL

We are phasing Year 10 back into school in two stages.

Stage 1: each pupil has a one-to-one, face-to-face interview with

a member of staff on the school site (unless requested otherwise) in the fortnight commencing June 15th.

Stage 2: from June 29th Year 10 attend school each day in six

bubbles of 8 pupils each (this means that no more than 25% of

pupils in Y10 will be present on campus at any one time). They will study some of their subjects, receive support with wellbeing and home learning. Home learning will remain the predominant form

of learning. Further details of the bubbles and the timetable will be made available in due course.

Please note that the Government has made it clear that schools should offer “some face-to-face support for Year 10” from

June 15th. There is no standard definition of this phrase, but the guidance does make clear that home learning (including online

learning) will remain the “predominant” form of education for all pupils for the remainder of this academic year.

Attendance at this time is not mandatory, but at the discretion of parents and carers.

We will review our decision to extend our opening arrangements

from June 15th on a daily basis, informed by local circumstances and advice, including the latest R-rate. If we need to make

changes to our opening arrangements we will communicate these as quickly possible, ideally with 24 hours notice. However, this may not always be possible.

SECTION ONE YOUR CHILD’S 1-2-1 FACE-TO-FACE INTERVIEW

Your child will have a thirty minute interview with a member

of staff in the fortnight commencing June 15th. We would

like every child to be accompanied by a parent or carer. The purpose of this interview is to check on their wellbeing and

support them with their learning. The following will be covered during the interview: •

The Ambrose Project: all Year 10 into Year 11 pupils will be supported in developing a personal project based on their interests and skills. For some pupils this will lead to additional qualifications and certification such as the Extended Project Qualification or Higher Project Qualification.

The interview will be documented and a copy kept by the

school - a copy can also be emailed to you. Please be on time

for your interview, but do not arrive a long time in advance.

We will do everything we can to ensure that the interview runs to time, but it is possible that there may be some slippage and we ask parents and carers please to be patient with this.

If your child cannot attend for interview at the allotted time then we will offer an alternative. Pupils cannot return in

their “bubbles� from June 29th unless they have had their interview.

SECTION TWO BEFORE YOUR CHILD COMES BACK INTO SCHOOL

It is important that we have as much information as possible before your child comes back into school.

You will receive a letter giving them time and date of your

child’s interview. This is based on information you provided to your child’s form tutor last week.

All parents and carers must complete a copy of our health

survey. This can be found here and was previously shared by

letter. The survey can be found by following the link below and must be completed by all families by 11:59pm on Wednesday, June 10th. It is completely secure and we will not share your data with anyone else.

If you have more than one child at our school then you must complete a separate questionnaire for each of them.

At the end of this letter are some notes that will help you to complete the survey – please read these before you fill the survey in.

SECTION THREE GETTING TO SCHOOL

We strongly recommend that your child walks, cycles or is

driven to school. As far as possible they should avoid public transport.

a. If your child will be using public transport they must

wear a face mask and must follow all the social distancing guidelines that apply. If they use public transport but do

not show school staff a face mask on arrival they will not be permitted to enter the school

a. If your child is being dropped-off at school by car drivers must obey traffic signage, markings and speed limits around the school. Drivers must park in a way that does not interfere with social distancing and other protective measures

a. It is the responsibility of parents and carers to ensure that pupils are instructed not to gather in groups on their way to school or outside the school. If this occurs the pupils concerned may not be allowed to enter the premises.

a. Pupils who cycle to school should do so safely, wearing a helmet and following the Highway Code. Pupils must enter the campus from Ash Drive using the vehicle entrance

not the designated bike path. They must arrive in sufficient

time to safely store and lock their bike in the shed. Bikes are brought at their own risk and are not the responsibility of the school whilst on site. All bikes should be locked. The school does not provide locks for this purpose.

SECTION FOUR PROTECTIVE MEASURES ON SITE

Across our campus we have put in place a full range of

protective measures to keep everyone safe. All of these

must be complied with by everyone who works there, learns

here and who visits. Failure to comply with these may lead to individuals being asked to leave. Safety is our top priority.

These measures include: •

Two metre social distancing markings throughout the campus and on the roads outside

Handwashing stations - everyone must wash their hands on arrival and before departure

•

Taking body temperature readings

•

A one way system

•

Additional signage

•

Hand sanitizer in classrooms

•

Specially designated toilets for pupils and staff

•

Removal of fabric chairs

•

Temporary reduction of 75% in classroom floor capacity

•

Designation of eight classrooms for Year 10 bubbles only

Additional cleaning regime

From June 15th, closure to all pupils except key worker and vulnerable pupils one day per week to allow for deep cleaning

Please note that you and your child do not need to wear a face mask or gloves to come into school.

You will be greeted on arrival by the member of staff who will

interview your child. They will accompany you to the classroom where the interview will take place and will remind you of these protective measures.

We are especially careful in the reception area. Visitors

may not gather in groups or sit down. All visitors are reminded to ensure that they pay particular attention to the 2m social

distancing rule. Parents and carers are also reminded that whilst these measures are in place they may not attend on campus without an appointment.

SECTION FIVE FIRE AND EVACUATION POLICY

Our policies relating to the emergency evacuation of the

building have been revised to take account of the pandemic.

When pupils return in their “bubbles” from June 29th they will have daily fire drills.

In the event that we need to evacuate the building when you

are in school for your child’s interview pupils will go, as is normal, to the 3G pitch and will stand in lines at 2 metre intervals.

Parents, carers and other visitors will gather at the muster point at the front of the school, following 2m social distancing

rules. In the event that there is an immediate threat to life, then

it is assumed that the need to prevent serious injury or fatality will take precedence over the requirement to be socially distant.

SECTION SIX UNIFORM AND EQUIPMENT

Pupils do not need to attend their interview in uniform,

however at the interview the uniform expectations from June 29th will be explained in detail.

Pupils do not need to bring any work or equipment to the

interview, but the rules governing kit, equipment and materials will be made clear.

Pupils are not permitted to take paper or materials from school off-site. They must bring their own pens, work and

other materials into school. There are strict guidelines in place governing how staff can interact with pupils work and materials.

SECTION SEVEN CATERING

From June 29th school lunches will be available to all pupils

in school on a pre-order system. During the interview fortnight pupils who come in for their interviews will not require access to

catering. If your child is eligible for free school meals, however, then you will continue to receive vouchers delivered by staff.

SECTION EIGHT TESTING AND CONTACT TRACING

As has been previously communicated in our daily letters, since May 16th school children and their families can be tested for

The Salford CCG page (updated May 28th) states: “Anyone who tests positive for coronavirus will be contacted by

NHS Test and Trace and will need to share detailed information about their recent interactions.

This could include household members, people with whom

they have been in direct contact, or within 2 metres for more than 15 minutes.

People identified as having been in close contact with someone who has a positive test must stay at home for 14 days, even if

they do not have symptoms, to stop unknowingly spreading the virus.

If those in isolation develop symptoms, they can book a test at nhs.uk/coronavirus or by calling 119. If they test positive, they must continue to stay at home for 7 days or until their symptoms have passed. If they test negative, they must complete the 14-day isolation period.

Members of their household will not have to stay at home unless the person identified becomes symptomatic, at which point

they must also self-isolate for 14 days to avoid spreading the virus.�

(Use postcode M30 7LJ for sat nav) If staff have any concerns about the health of pupils or visitors to the site, particularly if they display COVID-like symptoms, that person will be accommodated in a dedicated room and a

parent or carer (or other relative) called to collect them. If the school has any concerns about the health of anyone on site then we will act immediately to make sure they are signposted to

medical care and that others are not at risk of infection. Please see the next section for more details.

SECTION NINE SYMPTOMS OF COVID-19

Symptoms of COVID-19 and our approach if we suspect that a child or other person has symptoms.

The most common symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19) are recent onset of any of the following: •

A new continuous cough

•

A high temperature

•

A loss of, or change in, your normal sense of taste or smell (anosmia)

A well child/young person: feels 100% well, seems themselves and not displaying any changes in behaviour or their daily

routines. If a child’s demeanour or behaviour suggests that this is not the case then they should not be in school and staff will call home and ask for them to be collected.

An unwell child could be a possible case of COVID-19. Other

symptoms we have seen: Vomiting, diarrhoea, sleeping more than usual, complaining of not feeling themselves in anyway, agitated, cold, headache - anything that is not feeling themselves. For fever, NHS advice is to look for a high temperature – ‘this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back, you do not need to measure your temperature’

SECTION TEN DEFINITIONS AND ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

(This is copied from widely available Government advice that has previously been sent out) Clinically Vulnerable

‘Clinically vulnerable’ describes the wider group of people who have been identified as being more at risk from the new coronavirus but not so severely that they need to shield themselves.

The government doesn’t actually recommend that clinically vulnerable people follow any rules that differ from the universal social distancing guidance. But these people are being told to follow that guidance carefully, and to take particular care to minimise contact with others outside of their household.

It includes anyone who is under 70 but has health conditions including chronic mild to moderate respiratory disease, chronic heart, kidney or liver disease, chronic neurological conditions, diabetes or a weakened immune system because of conditions such as HIV and AIDS or medicines like steroid tablets.

This group also includes pregnant women and anyone classed as seriously overweight, with a body mass index of 40 or above.

If your child is clinically vulnerable you may wish not to send them to school.

Clinically extremely vulnerable Clinically extremely vulnerable people may include: 1. Solid organ transplant recipients.

2. People with specific cancers: •

people with cancer who are undergoing active chemotherapy

•

people with lung cancer who are undergoing radical radiotherapy

•

people with cancers of the blood or bone marrow such as leukaemia, lymphoma or myeloma who are at any stage of treatment

•

people having immunotherapy or other continuing antibody treatments for cancer

•

people having other targeted canc=er treatments which can affect the immune system, such as protein kinase inhibitors or PARP inhibitors

•

people who have had bone marrow or stem cell transplants in the last 6 months, or who are still taking immunosuppression drugs

3. People with severe respiratory conditions including all cystic fibrosis, severe asthma and severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

4. People with rare diseases that significantly increase the risk of infections (such as severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID), homozygous sickle cell).

5. People on immunosuppression therapies sufficient to significantly increase risk of infection.

6. Women who are pregnant with significant heart disease, congenital or acquired.

Other people have also been classed as clinically extremely vulnerable, based on clinical judgment and an assessment of their needs. GPs and hospital clinicians have been provided with guidance to support these decisions.
