When this academic year started in September we were celebrating the success of our Year 11 results. They were the best since the year expanded and moved to this site 8 years ago. We are amongst the best performing secondary schools in the Diocese of Salford, one of the two top-performing schools in the City of Salford, and the most improved school in both the city and the diocese. Of particular note are the excellent outcomes for SEND pupils and the Attainment 8 score of 51.3, which indicates that on average pupils achieved a strong pass in their GCSEs. I mention this to reiterate the achievement of our school, its pupils and staff, and because we have not stood still. We have continued to work tirelessly, with deep commitment and service to our young people and their families, so that these improvements are maintained or bettered.

This has been a busy term and one in which, at times, it has felt like being close to a pre-pandemic one. We have seen extra-curricular trips, sports events and trips make more of a return; it has been great to welcome more guests into school; and we held our first full-scale Awards Ceremony for three years in November at Lancashire Country Cricket club. These events and, for example our charity work, remind us that at a time when in our communities, our country and across the globe, there seems to be proliferation of challenge and conflict, schools are places of neighbourliness and compassion. In our school that sense of service, of living out a message of love and hope runs deep and it is something that we want to amplify and celebrate in the next term.

Our curriculum is built on a foundation of faith allowing learning to be put into action and Christmas is a perfect time to reflect on this idea.

Our Advent assemblies and services have encouraged pupils to consider not only the meaning of Christmas, but the opportunity it offers us all to contribute to those around us and to write a better, more hopeful story. You can see and feel that hope in our school, coming alive in the changes that are leading to improvements. You can see it in our pupils, in their attitude and commitment to their work. And you can see it in our staff, in their devotion to the school and its community.

As is customary at the end of term we say farewell to staff who are moving on. This term Mr. Murray is leaving the Science department and Miss Daniels, Assistant Headteacher, is moving to another school. I would like to thank them both for their service and commitment to our school and wish them the very best of luck in the future.

In this newsletter you will be able to review a snapshot of the year and gain a sense of all that has taken place. I hope that this gives you hope for the future as we go into a new year. On behalf of the governors, staff and pupils of our school I wish you and yours a Holy and Peaceful Christmas and a Happy New Year. Thank you for your support in 2022.
