Dear Members of the St Patrick’s College Community
Welcome to Term 4. It has been some time since I last wrote to you in the Calling and much has occurred during that time. Term 4 is traditionally a full and busy term with a number of important events on the College calendar. I approach this term with mixed emotions. The prospect of finishing my time as Principal of St. Patrick’s College is something that is very emotional for me. However, I do look forward to thanking the St. Patrick’s College Community for the privilege , the friendship and honour of being part of this great College over the last 11 years. During Term 3 I had the opportunity to be involved in a number of activities as part of my leave and I must say it was a great time. This would not have been possible without the generous support of a many people back at school. Most notably I wish to thank Mr Frank Torrisi, who stepped in as Acting Principal during Term 3. Frank carried out the role with distinction and I congratulate him on this excellent job during Term 3. I also wish to thank the other members of the College Leadership Team for the work they did during Term 3. During Term 3, EREA undertook a consultative process with the College Community as part of the selection process for the next Principal of St. Patrick’s College. On Tuesday this week it was announced that Mr Chris Mayes has been appointed as Principal of St. Patrick’s College in 2015. I have included an extract from the letter that Dr Wayne Tinsey wrote to the St. Patrick’s College Community regarding the appointment. “Chris is a very experienced Leader in Catholic education. He is currently the College Dean (Deputy Principal) at St Joseph’s College, Gregory Terrace and has also held leadership positions at Ignatius Park College in Townsville and at the Brisbane Catholic Education Office.” Chris Mayes is no stranger to St. Patrick’s College. He was a member of the College Leadership Team from 2002 to 2006 and will be an outstanding leader of St. Patrick’s College. I personally congratulate Chris and look forward to him spending some time at the College during Term 4 in preparation for his tenure as Principal in 2015. As I mentioned earlier, Term 4 is a very full and busy term. It is only 8 weeks long and is littered with a number of significant College events, including Leadership Camp, Year 5 Camp, 2015 Orientation Evening, various sporting fixtures, Showcase, Year 12 Graduation Evening and Mass and the Celebration of Excellence. I encourage all members of the St. Patrick’ College community to be involved in the various events throughout the term. Importantly, it is imperative that the students re-engage with the structure of school quickly. With only a short term, it is essential that good routines for homework, assignment work and revision are established early in the term. As Term 4 will be my final term at St. Patrick’s College I look forward to the journey and the opportunity to say thank you and farewell to the St. Patrick’s College community over the course of the next eight weeks. Have a great week. God Bless
