No. 11
Dear Members of the St Patrick’s Family, Welcome back to Term 2 and I trust that the Easter break offered a time to rest, recharge and prepare for the term ahead. During the holidays you would have received your son’s Term 1 report card and other associated information. Parent-Teacher meetings are scheduled for Wednesday, 28 April, and I would encourage parents to utilise this opportunity to make contact with your son’s teachers. Also during the holidays a large number of staff, students and parents were involved in a range of sporting tours, training camps and games. I congratulate and thank all involved for your contributions and, importantly, for how you participated in the various events. Well done! You would be aware that some staff have taken leave during Term 2 and as a result a number of new appointments have been made for Term 2 and beyond. These include: Mr Charles Brauer Mrs Dionne Tually Mr Paul Corfield Mr Mark Partridge Ms Selena Fisk

We also welcome Mr Paul Toohey back from leave in Term 1. I am confident that all these people will undertake their roles with distinction and I wish them the very best. The building program is continuing to progress with tenders having now closed. The College, in conjunction with our architect, is evaluating these tenders and will issue a contract shortly. Work is due to commence by the middle of May and at this stage is still expected to be completed by the beginning of the 2011 academic year. The gym has already been relocated to the Callan Centre and access near the pool and the Park Road end of the Saward Building will be closed off once construction begins. I will continue to inform you on the developments as they occur. There will be some minor disruptions. However, the outcome will be a very positive one for the College. Tomorrow the College will conduct its Anzac Liturgy in the Callan Centre and all parents are very welcome to attend. Following the liturgy the College, in conjunction with the Queensland Police Service, will stage CRYPAR Anti Violence Expo. This event brings a focus on Youth Violence through a sporting context. A touch football competition will be conducted on the Back Oval throughout the day and the Callan Centre will host an expo on youth related issues. Students will have an opportunity to visit the expo during the day. Parents are also welcome to visit the expo which will operate from 11am till 2pm. On the last day of Term 1, Shore to Gate was held. It was a very successful day and my thanks go to all involved. Part of the purpose of the day was to raise funds. To date just on $40,000 has been collected. This is an excellent response. As previously advertised, half of this money will be used to provide shade cover in the new centre courtyard whilst the other half will be used to support various overseas initiatives in East Timor, India and South Africa that the College has links with. I thank all families for their generous support of this event. Finally this week, I wish all within the St Patrick’s College Community a successful Term 2. The events of Term 1 were traumatic and demanding but also provided an opportunity for the Community to unite and stand together as a Band Of Brothers. It is imperative that we, as a Community, continue to stand together and maximise the opportunities provided by being part of the St Patrick’s College Community. Have a great term! God Bless
Dr Michael Carroll College Principal
