Katie has been at the Marian Home for almost 35 years. She exemplifies the meaning of loyalty and is very dedicated to our residents and her peers. Katie tirelessly works to make sure our residents have all they need to have the best day.

She volunteers for extra hours and has rarely missed a day of work in her almost 35 years of employment. Thank you, Katie for all your hard work and support you show us all.

Jody Lennon | Director of Nursing As we enter the month of August we think of “Back to School” I would like to take this opportunity to Congratulate those that have finished their first or 2nd year of Nursing along with passing the State Boards to receive their LPN or RN license. In the Nursing Department we have also had several complete the state test to receive the license as a Certified Nursing Assistant.

Ellie McClintock has been an LPN at the Marian Home since 3/14/22. Ellie plans to attend ICCC in August to finish her 2nd year of Nursing to receive her RN license. Good luck Ellie.

Rose Maroko has been an LPN at the Marian Home since 7/6/22. Rose plans to attend ICCC in August to finish her 2nd year of Nursing to receive her RN license. Good luck Rose.

Kyanna Kirk has been an LPN at the Marian Home since 8/6/21. Kyanna passed her RN boards on 7/12/22. Congratulations! Kyanna plans to continue to work at the Marian Home PT along with gaining experience as an ICU Nurse at TRMC. Elizabeth Gailey has been a CNA at the Marian Home since 6/12/2019. Lizzie passed her LPN boards on 7/12/22. Congratulations Lizzie! Lizzie plans to return to ICCC in August to attend her 2nd year of Nursing along with working as an LPN at the Marian Home.

Josephine Perry has worked at the Marian Home since 3/5/2020. Josephine was a CNA until passing her LPN boards. Josephine has been an LPN with us since 8/21/22. Josephine recently finished her 2nd year of nursing along with passing her RN boards on 7/22/22.

Congratulations! Josephine plans to work at the Marian Home PT while working towards her BSN. Audrey Norlander has been a CNA at the Marian Home since 2/14/2020. Audrey recently finished her 1st year of Nursing with plans to take LPN boards on August 1st.

Congratulations. Audrey plans to attend ICCC in August to finish her 2nd year of Nursing to receive her RN. The following have joined our Team as CNA’s: Sarah Rodriquez, Brittany Sandoval, Kaitlyn Andrews, Shania Alhameed-Foy, Taytum Davidson, Araya Fellers, Jebreauna Clark, Makla Naylor, Erica Birkey, Jennifer Doolittle, Brooke Derig, Shelly Thomas, Hannah Landwehr & Juanita Tonche. A big warm welcome & thank you for joining our team.

Lastly, I would like to take a moment to send a special thank you to Faith Williams, LPN. Faith has been employed at the Marian Home since 7/24/1989. For the last 33 years Faith has played many important roles at the MH. Charge Nurse for Day & Evening shift, Skin/Wound Nurse Manager along with being certified in wound care. MDS & Skilled Nurse Coordinator & recently Infection Control Nurse along with assisting the DON when needed. Thanks again for your loyalty and commitment to the residents.

As a reminder, you can get your loved one’s monthly statement emailed to you! One of the benefits of getting it emailed is the fact that you will get it sooner. I usually get them sent out on the 1st or 2nd of every month! This way it gives you extra time to review the charges before you send the payment or before the payment gets pulled by automatic withdrawal! You may also sign up to have your monthly payments automatically withdrawn every month. I pull payments on the 7th of every month.

Maintenance and Transportation | Travis Filloon The Maintenance & Transportation Department is excited to share that renovation/landscaping work in the courtyard of the Village is complete!

The work involved the removal of the numerous overgrown shrubs and plantings along with the one big tree that was there.

This new face-lift included adding a large number of unique & colorful plantings, along with a new small tree. The centerpiece of this design provides an easily accessible, L-shaped, raised planter bed for our tenants to grow/tend to vegetables or similar type garden plants.

In addition, more patio tables & chairs along with a 4 piece cushioned lounge set were added to allow our tenants to more comfortably enjoy the area.

Also, the post lighting in the courtyard has been upgraded and revitalized.

"What you're supposed to do when you don't like a thing is change it. If you can't change it, change the way you think about it. Don't complain." Maya Angelou.

This is something that is much easier said than done, well at least for me any way. I know at times it is easy to complain about things instead of taking a deep look and trying to change how you see things. My goal is to work on this.

Nutritional Supplements Greetings from the dietary department!

We have a new recipe that the residents have really enjoyed. This is a great recipe to make ahead and have ready to bake in the morning. We have used fresh raspberries in our recipe, but any berry would work.

Raspberry Streusel Coffee Cake Streusel 1/2 cup flour 1 cup brown sugar 1/2 cup softened margarine 1 T. Cinnamon Coffee Cake 1 box yellow or white cake mix 1 pound cream cheese, softened 1 egg 3/4 c vegetable oil 1 1/4c water 1 pound fresh raspberries

The “excessive” heat has been relentless and so have we here in the maintenance department! We continue to constantly monitor the temperatures and humidity throughout the nursing facility to ensure that a comfortable environment is provided. Though in the Marian Village (independent living areas), we monitor only the “public” areas and only check or respond to calls when requested by the tenants or their family members. The Village tenants have personal control (via a thermostat) of just how warm or cool they prefer.

Also, whenever possible our transportation drivers try to start the vehicles early enough to have them cooled down prior to transporting our residents & tenants to appointments.

Streusel topping: in a bowl, combine the flour, brown sugar, margarine and cinnamon. Mix until crumbly. set aside.

Dietician | Rachel Pederson In a separate blow, combine cake mix, cream cheese, eggs, oil and water. Beat with electric mixer ton low speed until blended.

Pour half of the batter into greased 9x13 baking pan. Sprinkle with raspberries. Carefully spread the remaining batter over raspberries.

Sprinkle streusel evenly over the batter.

Bake at 350 for 40-45 minutes or until knife inserted in center comes out clean. Let cool.

Already August, Where has the time gone? August is Admit You're Happy Month. We are all Happy this month because this means that the St. Edmond kids will be starting school and coming over to visit us and doing Activities with your loved ones. They really like it when they come over to visit, The residents ask them lots of questions when they are here, to learn more about them. We are at our Happiest when we can get outside and take deep breaths of the fresh air provided outside. It just changes everyone's attitudes and makes the day a little more happier for all of us.
