Sarasota Youth Opera Camp Presenting a three-week, hands-on workshop held at the Sarasota Opera House every June that immerses young people in all aspects of opera. They will learn and practice basic art skills such as color mixing, painting with artist paint brushes and drawing with pencil, marker and pastel. FASHION BOOT CAMP Ages 9-16 For designers ages 9–16 who want to create fashion from conventional and unconventional materials. Students will complete a basic sewing project and work on a fashion design of their own creation aided by our skilled teachers. They will explore, design and create with the materials they bring and those that we have on hand. The class will learn about fashion design, construction, creative thinking and problem-solving. Designers will need to bring an idea for an unconventional material outfit, some requested materials and a basic sewing kit. FILMMAKERS SUMMER CAMP Middle and High School Students The program will consist of an exciting six-week course where students will have an opportunity to explore all aspects of filmmaking, from beginning to the actual creation of their own film. EXPLORING MARINE CAREERS Grades 6-8 EMC: Ocean Technology Using technology and teamwork, campers will uncover ocean mysteries in this science lab camp. Campers will learn advanced computer coding, the mechanics behind ocean science and exploration; design, build, and test a functioning ROV; and utilize robotics to understand the biomimicry of ocean animals. Tech Campers will explore the oceans’ geology, zoology, engineering, and paleontology, just like Mote’s scientists. They will explore the job duties of real life scientists, work on lab and field skills, and participate in citizen science projects. Mote has over 25 different research programs, and your camper will get a taste of a few projects the scientists are working on. Campers will get to meet a couple of animal ambassadors and learn what goes into caring for these unique animals. Campers will learn what it takes to care for animals, feed them, keep their exhibits clean and healthy, monitor behaviors, and stimulate natural behaviors they would exhibit in the wild. Campers will become stranding investigators and hospital helpers to learn more about the work done at Mote. Different levels of classes available for the age ranges of 5-7, 7-12, 8-12, and 13-18 Sarasota Youth Sailing will be continuing their full-day US Sailing ReachSTEM class. Utilizing the sport of sailing, students will explore science, technology, engineering and math while sailing and exploring Sarasota Bay. This class uses Hobie Waves, Hobie Bravos and other boats.
