POLICY STATEMENT PUMP for NUS Students deserve a National Union of Students that will fight for the issues that matter to them. Over the past year, the NUS has run campaigns around stopping climate change, protecting LGBTI+ students from discrimination, and fighting sexual assault on campus. PUMP for NUS will make sure that the NUS stays active, energetic, and engaged.

PRO-TEAM FOR A PROGRESSIVE NUS Electing the PRO-TEAM team as your delegates to National Conference ensures that we can support progressive candidates to National Office and push a forward thinking policy agenda to keep the National Union strong and on the right track. NUS plays an integral part in defending our education and ensuring that vital services are available to all students. We need our national union to be a body fighting back against the war on young people.

PRO-TEAM FOR STUDENT HOUSING

We’ll PUMP UP ENGAGEMENT by keeping NUS present at USyd, ensuring Usyd students have a voice on a national level. We’ll also build the power of NUS by engaging new students and campuses into the national union. We’ll PUMP UP ACTIVISM by keeping up the fight to divest universities across Australia from fossil fuels, take real action on campus safety, and raise the rate of Newstart. We’ll also advocate for campaigns by the NUS on issues like legalising pill-testing and fighting cuts to education.

We know it’s important for there to be a strong representative body advocating for student issues on a national level, and we know how important our council can be in strengthening the national union. One of the most pressing concerns for students is the growing rent price in Sydney. The NUS Welfare department has fought hard to improve support services for students living out of home, a vote for PRO-TEAM for NUS will keep this a priority within your national union. PRO-TEAM delegates will fight against the privatisation of student accomodation by corporate University management which is pricing out students from being able to afford to put a roof over their head.
