In Memoriam

“Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us every day.”

DR. SHERRIL ENGLISH (1953 – 2022)

Our hearts are broken in the passing of our beloved former principal, Dr. Sherril English. Although we mourn, we rejoice in the amazing spirit of such a cherished woman of God. In addition to being a former faculty member, she was also a proud alumni parent to Brent and Britney English and devoted grandmother to Forrest, now a student at St. Philip’s. Sherril was a beautiful soul that exuded love for so many and was a true blessing to the St. Philip’s community. We are also hopeful that Sherril’s beautiful legacy will resonate deeply with the many lives she touched. We send our deepest condolences to the English family on her passing. It was indeed a privilege to have known, been taught, mentored and led by her. Her favorite phrase, “I’m so concerned” was a true representation of her devotion to all who loved and knew her. Her love, her light and well lived life will be remembered by her family, friends, students, and colleagues.

DARLENE GILES (1932 – 2022)

St. Philip’s send its love and condolences to the Giles family after the passing of former volunteer and receptionist, Darlene Giles, mother-in-law to longtime friend and supporter Clarice Tinsley Giles. Darlene was born January 4, 1932. Her friends and family remember her as a kind, honest and loving person. She was most proud of the many accomplishments of her children and grandchildren and bragged on them shamelessly. Her beautiful spirit will be missed immensely.

STACEY SNYDER (1964 – 2022)

Our hearts and prayers go out to the Snyder family in the sudden passing of our forever friend and supporter Stacey Snyder. Stacey was born in Detroit, MI but lived most of her life in the Dallas area. Her passion for international business, boxing and photography led her to a rewarding career pursuing all three of her primary interests. From the time she was four years old, she had a camera in her hand. Around the age of eight, her father took her to a boxing event that marked the beginning of her passionate dedication to the sport. Stacey combined her fascination for photography and boxing by pursuing boxing journalism. She gave her photos to amateur boxers and boxing publications around the world, allowing them to use her work without restrictions or payment. Stacey also managed and coordinated assets of SnyderCapital Corporation and served as President of The Snyder Foundation. Stacey graduated from Ursuline Academy in 1983. She always lived her life to the fullest and what mattered most to Stacy was her advocacy for the SPCA, Friends of Katy Trail, St. Philip’s School and Community Center, the boxing community and the wellbeing of her family, friends, and animals. We are grateful for her kindness and love.

St. Philip’s would also like to extend its deepest sympathies and condolences to Eddie Fletcher, Athletic Director, in the passing of his wife; Rachel Martin, Music teacher, in the passing of her grandfather; retired faculty member Antoinette Ashley, in the passing of her mother; friend and supporter Kevin Muskat in the passing of his father; longtime friends and volunteers, Susan and David McCombs, in the passing of David’s mother. So many have lost loved ones this year. May God continue to comfort and strengthen you during this time of bereavement.

MOMENTS FROM DR. ENGLISH’S MEMORIAL AT ST. PHILIP’S

THANKFUL FOR WHO I WAS

An Original Poem Dedicated to My First Principal by Tyler Jones, Class of 2008

The time I’ve had on this earth Was beyond what I thought I would have. Just because I gave my last breath Doesn’t mean I had my last day. After all the nights I prayed God gave me many suns to Live in my light of life. Setting fires to many souls, I finally get to cool down on life’s shore. Blessed to have lived this wonderful life Knowing forever still awaits my eyes.

MARGARET "BETTE" PEROT

1929 – 2023

St. Philip’s School and Community extends its deepest sympathies to the Perot family in the passing of their beloved Aunt Bette Perot, a life-long ambassador in the fight against hunger and the namesake for our very own impactful community pantry. It was a tremendous privilege to have the Perot family honor Aunt Bette with a very special birthday gift in 2019…that being $2 million to St. Philip’s’ We Believe Campaign to endow the community pantry and help sustain its future.

Bette Perot’s dedication to hunger relief is astounding, as she was instrumental in the founding of North Texas Food Bank, one of our long-standing community partners and she personally planted the seeds for St. Philip’s first food pantry over twenty years ago.

Through Aunt Bette and now, her legacy, the Perot family will continue to positively affect the lives of tens of thousands of neighbors and fellow citizens facing food insecurity for decades to come.
