ST. PHILIP’S ALUM HEADED TO UNIVERSITY OF UTAH ON A FULL-RIDE

Chase Kennedy, a class of 2016 alum, graduated from The Episcopal School of Dallas and has a lot to look forward to as he enters a new chapter in his life as he is headed to the University of Utah on a full-ride football scholarship. He joined the ESD football team after participating in St. Philip's Athletics program in his formative years. Chase excelled in many sports while at ESD, but football was his passion, and his love for the gridiron originated from his early athletic journey as a “Saint.”

"St Philip's was where I began my football career," said Chase. "I want to thank everyone at St. Philip's who got me where I am today."

Many athletes discover their love for sports while participating in St. Philip's athletics. Kennedy is one of many who has gone on to play a sport at the next level. "There are a lot of talented students that come out of St. Philip's," the Running Back added. "St. Philip's gave me the ingredients for success. If you abide by the tools and advice the coaches give you, I think you will be successful."

Wisely, Chase did just that. He also excels in the classroom.

One thing has stuck with Chase as he developed into the athlete he is today. "St. Philip's taught us never to back down. That's something I took with me to ESD, and now I'll take it to Utah." While he had multiple offers from D1 Universities, he ultimately chose the school that made him feel the way he felt while in grade school at St. Philip’s.

ALUMNI SCHOLAR ATHLETE WINS STATE AND IS INDUCTED INTO NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY

Dylan Brown-Turner, a class of 2017 alum of St. Philip’s, attends South Oak Cliff High School. After wrapping up his junior year, Dylan was inducted into the South Oak Cliff chapter of the National Honor Society. “It was really just me having to motivate myself and be determined,” said Dylan after being inducted into the prestigious organization in the spring.

Only those who achieve a GPA of 3.5 or higher are invited to join NHS. While Dylan works hard in the classroom, he also works hard on the gridiron. In fact, the Linebacker helped lead the Golden Bears to a state title game in the 2021 season. Unfortunately, Dylan was unable to play due to an injury, but the team persevered and defeated Aledo in the 5A Division 2 State Championship game.

“The main goal is to win state again,” he said. “I have unfinished business; I just want to pick up where I left off my junior year.”

His senior year is months away but that did not hold him back when it came to making plans for his future. “Some places you just feel comfortable,” explained Dylan when talking about his college plans. Dylan has officially committed to The University of North Texas where he will play football after he graduates in 2023.

“I want to thank all my St. Philip’s family for playing a role in who I am today.”

ANNUAL TOURNAMENT CONTINUES TO HONOR PARENT’S LEGACY

The Paul “PBO” Bryson Invitational Basketball Classic was established in 2005 in memory of one of St. Philip’s most dedicated parents and Community Center volunteers. This annual tournament honors Mr. Bryson’s noble legacy and raises scholarship funds to support the education of children in the community. His daughters, Tiffany and Candice, both college graduates, were the first beneficiaries of this unique fundraiser. 60 teams competed in the 2022 tournament. The Bryson family were in attendance and Mrs. Bryson presented awards to the winning teams.
