FROM THE PRINCIPAL

HATS OFF TO A GREAT YEAR!

This year, St. Philip’s continued its efforts toward a balanced education that promotes students’ social, emotional, and academic growth, with a core focus on Honor, Achievement, Tenacity, and Scholarship. Our 240 students engaged in weekly conversations and lessons focused on conflict

resolution, respect, interpersonal relationships, and mental and physical wellness. They learned how to give honor and to respect themselves and others. Our new Tuesday Humanities Chapels challenged students to develop their character and grow in their faith throughout the year.

In addition, our scholars excelled in and out of the classroom. Throughout the year, students participated in public speaking opportunities in our oratorical contests. They solved critical, complex real-world problems through our project-based learning curriculum and experienced “school without walls” during their reinstated academic excursions. Finally, our robust performing arts program highlighted their talents and creativity.

St. Philip’s believes that transformative education should also offer students access to valuable experiences. This year, our scholars interacted with The Most Reverend, Michael Curry, the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church; NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal; Paige Hernandez, a Broadway playwright; the Brooklyn Jumbies Afro-Caribbean stilts dancers; a professional set designer; learned financial literacy with members of JP Morgan Chase Bank, and so much more. Through these incredible experiences, student pathways for career aspirations were formed and our students’ world view expanded. These enriching opportunities build confidence, awareness, and a zest for success.

Finally, we are excited to begin our venture into a full middle school program at St. Philip’s with the addition of 7th grade for the upcoming 20222023 school year. We look forward to seeing many of our current 6th graders back on campus to begin building on all they’ve gleaned from a dynamic St. Philip’s education thus far.

Sincere Regards and Happy Summer,

Kellee Murrell
