Flowers for the Village

County to hold Waste Management Open Houses the diversion of approximately 60 per cent of the material normally collected in a bulky service, which currently only diverts four per cent of material collected. The County’s leaf and yard waste service will be expanded to provide four collections in the spring and five collections in the fall (bi-weekly) for all serviced units; whereas, historically only residential units in certain municipalities received between one and five collections annually. All serviced locations will now receive two separate Christmas tree collections (bi-weekly) in January; this will reduce weatherrelated impacts, as well as provide increased flexibility on time of set out. An improved holiday collection service will mean, with the exception of Christmas and New Year’s Day, the collection schedule will no longer be bumped forward when it falls on a statutory holiday. More cottage roads will now have access to curb¬side collection services as a result of the use of specialized small collection trucks. These newly ser¬viced areas will now have access to all County waste diversion programs. Some areas such as islands and unsafe roads will not be eligible for collection. The elimination of common drop-off areas will reduce illegal dumping, complaints about litter, and the attraction of animals. All serviced units will now receive the same level of collection no matter what municipality you call home. Regional differences in the past limited the County’s ability to deliver improved promotion and education programs. All businesses will also now be eligible to receive curbside waste collection service. Maximum limits apply and in order to qualify for service, locations must participate in diversion programs. “Changes and improvements to waste

Midhurst/ March 8, 2013 – Major changes and improvements are coming to waste collection services in the County of Simcoe effective April 1, 2013 as a result of new service contracts. Significant benefits, including increased and unified service levels that will keep more waste out of landfill, will be achieved through these changes and result in more than $2 million in annual savings, which will be achieved by restructuring the current collection routes. The new collection days and times will be effective April 1, 2013. As part of the new and exciting changes to programs and services, the County’s Solid Waste Management Department has launched an innovative Waste Collection Calendar Tool on simcoe.ca that will allow you to view, download and print your collection calendar; sign up for weekly reminders via email, phone or twitter; and add a schedule to your personal calendar (iCal, Google Calendar or Microsoft Outlook). Visit simcoe.ca and click on the new waste collection calendar tool. The County is hosting a series of open houses starting March 11, 2013 to help facilitate the transition, educate residents of the changes, and promote the improved services. A list of dates and times are listed on page 3 of the attached PDF. Additional information will be delivered to each home in the County in the coming weeks, is available at simcoe.ca, or by calling the County of Simcoe’s Customer Service Centre at 1-800-263-3199. The residents of Barrie and Orillia are not affected by the changes.

LOCAL GIRL AT PROVINCIAL BOWLING TOURNAMENT

On Sunday March 2nd, the top youth Bantam Girl from Springwater Lanes Bowling Centre in Elmvale, traveled to Cambridge to represent Huronia while competing in the annual 4 Steps To Stardom Provincial 5 pin bowling championships. Kayla MacDonald won the right to do this by first, being the best Bantam girl in her house and then by beating the best from other centres in Huronia in a tournament last month. Kayla made her presence known early by rolling a 220 in the first of 5 games, giving her the lead over the top bowlers from every other zone in the Province. In bowling, we have 12 zones. In the second game, Kayla once again poured it on, putting all of her practice into play and threw a 196! Her next 2 games, 133 and 148 were good enough to keep her in first place going into the final game, but, she just couldn't keep it going as she struggled to find the middle, rolling a 115. This game took her out of the lead and she finished in 3rd place. If she had won, she would have traveled to British Columbia for the Nationals in May, but Kayla knows that at 10 years old she will have many more opportunity's to compete at this level. We at Springwater Lanes are all very proud of her because being the third best bantam girl in Ontario is an amazing accomplishment! Way to go Kayla!
