Everyone at Sara Vista says THANKS!

For many years all of us have heard the word Pandemic and what we thought our world would look like once we were experiencing one. The COVID-19 Pandemic has put our world in a spiral that none of us could have predicted. The one thing I would never have predicted is the kindness of people and the people in our community in Elmvale has been overwhelming and very heart warming. Our team at Sara Vista cannot say thank you enough to everyone. Our small town has shown its very big heart to all the residents and staff at the home. COVID-19 is taking its toll on many long-term care homes in Ontario and we are all working so very hard to keep everyone protected and safe through these very difficult times. Every day the home is receiving some form of gratitude from the community and I personally would like to say thank you….I am hopeful that I have captured everyone and sincerely apologize if I have missed anyone at this time, there have been so many acts of kindness each and every day. At the very start of the Pandemic, we had Pia and her Mother, on the home’s front porch writing a “Stay well” message for the residents and team. The team was brought to tears at this show of community

support from a little girl in town. Darlene McLean and Patti Gauthier made over one hundred material face masks for our team, many of our team members are using them under the surgical masks that we are to wear every day in the home to keep our residents safe. Lila Beardsall also heard the need for homemade masks and delivered them along with two surgical caps, the team says a huge thank you for the extra supplies. Dr. Hans Harlos also kindly donated some surgical masks from his office for the staff to use. Paul Pollock from Canadian Tire donated surgical masks and hand sanitizer, this was a very welcome donation to the team from an unexpected source. Donna KleinGebbinck, Darlene McLean and Patti Gauthier heard our need for isolation gowns and quickly sewed ten gowns for our team members to wear when entering an isolation room, this was a huge need for our team and very much appreciated. Larry Brown and Heather Betz have brightened up our nursing station with lovely bouquets of flowers. Seeing a bit of spring come into the home has lifted everyone’s spirits. The Chapman Family from Oro-Medonte sent the residents and team some uplifting messages in many cards that came through the mail. Jennifer Ives kindly donated seven TV trays for the residents to use for meal service in their rooms. At the very beginning of this changing world, Heacock and Associates thought of our team and brought in Tim Horton’s donuts and coffee, which was a welcome treat to all at Sara Vista. Terry Truax Trucking also brought in Tim Horton’s treats which was very much appreciated by the team. Mrs. Rowntree also sent donuts for the team. Ms. Nadine Pott sent along some Tim Horton’s gift cards to share a special treat for the team. The Elmvale and District Lion’s Club, arranged for MacDonald’s to make up individual bags of muffins, cookies and coffees for the team to have on their break times. The Elmvale Presbyterian Church donated pizza for all the staff. Steeler’s kindly brought sandwiches in for our team, thank you they were very yummy. When this is all over our team is going to need some assistance with exercise and weight programs to shed the

extra weight, we are all putting on with all the treats. The farmers of the community brought everyone in the home to tears on Easter Sunday when Thirty-five tractors with huge stay well signs drove by the home. The residents, staff and community felt the love from all during this wonderful display of support and appreciation. How sweet it was– Mr. Tim Lalonde of Lalonde’s Maple Syrup Product graciously donated to the residents Maple Syrup to enjoy a traditional Pancake Breakfast The windows at Sara Vista are filled with many pictures and well wishes to our residents from the local children, special thanks to Chase and Nash Yates for the pictures and chalk drawings on our sidewalk. And last but not least, Craig Beacock, for lending Sara Vista the sign out front of the home, to let everyone know that we are staying safe. From all of us at Sara Vista we thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts and pray that we will get through this and get to see everyone soon. Stay safe and healthy. Sara Vista staff and residents.

The Elmvale Lions will be making deliveries of "grab & go” snacks and refreshments to the front line health care workers at Sara Vista Nursing Home in partnership with Elmvale McDonalds. A way to show appreciation and support for their efforts during the COVID-19 crisis. This service project has been made possible by funds from an emergency grant to our District by the Lions Clubs International Foundation. (Lion Jennifer Rebidoux)
