Fay have been so generous as a business and individuals supporting us in many ways. Once again, the Springwater News in our media sponsor and the event could not be promoted without the generous support of Mike and Margaret Ann Jacobs. What is also impressive is that the event is supported with over 30 volunteers. Many of them were involved with the fight against Site 41 and worked so closely with Gord and the Leoanrd Family. One only has to reflect on last year’s dinner and the silent auction table where Walter and Ursla Kunst paid $100.00 for a dozen of Ina Wood’s buttertarts. For those closely connected with the fight against Site 41 they all know the story behind the buttertarts too well! What is important to remember about Gord is that he was much more than just his fight against Site 41. Gord Leonard was well known for his community work including his time in the gardens at the Georgian Bay General Hospital and we know he would be would be so pleased with how the community has come together for such a great cause as our local hospital. As Anne Ritchie-Nahuis so nicely put it in her comments at last year’s dinner, “Gord you were so influential in our lives and our community you are still here with us-what a legacy-we look around we see the trees you planted in our yards and in the parks, the Wyebridge community Centre you helped to build and the wonderful grandchildren you helped to raise. We admire how you protected the farmland and the water. And now the quiet room where families who have that very traumatic news will be able to have the privacy they deserve in the Gord Leonard Quiet Room at the Georgian Bay General Hospital.” DeBruyne and Stott commented on that none of this would be possible without the kind support of Bev, Darrell, and the Leonard families. We are indebted to them for their kind cooperation and involvement for the betterment of our community. We also want to recongize the very kind financial donation made by Gord’s relatives in Holland. It is amazing how people reach out across an ocean to in memory of Gord to support such a wonderful cause named after him.
