Spring Voice 2023-24

Page 1

Preface

There’s something exciting and satisfying about collecting year’s work, alongside the best from our youngsters and compile it.

Spring Voice is a collective presentation of creative minds, working hard throughout the year. Each issue of this annual presentation is like a soul soup cooked in the kitchen. The report of the events held, the media clippings and every single creative input are the ingredients. A lot of sorting, editing and refining is done in the process, before we put together the final platting. Given the quantum of material and variety of themes collected, it equally gets overwhelming too.

The collage of newspaper reports on the cover page is reflection of Institution’s unwavering effort in serving the society and nurturing students. It also holds sentimental value for the institution’s soul.

In this world of digital communication and media, it is a reminder that traditional media can never be replaced. The sheer beauty of ink & paper, and every news item, having a physical continuity of existence through time linking present with the past.

Continuing with the blessings of our Founders and their values, we hope that this edition of Spring Voice brings you joy and inspire you all to new realms of knowledge, creativity and thinking.

Welcome to Spring Voice; enjoy reading!

TRIBUTE TO OUR FOUNDERS

The guiding beam of light; the moral compass of our value system… the legends who are remembered forever!

Message from Management

Dear Parents,

Another school year has gone by. Our children continue to move forward in making gains in academic and extracurricular activities. As you must have noticed, their achievements enrich the pages of this magazine and make us proud.

As management we continue to focus on strengthening the teaching learning environment in our institutions. Stream in humanities has been introduced in the Gomti Nagar branch at the ISC level. In addition, strengthening of infrastructure and training of staff in the past years has provided us with an opportunity for getting optimal use of the new digital infrastructure. We are happy that significant financial investments we made in this area over the last few years are now paying dividends. Apart from strengthening the counselling services to support the social and emotional well-being of children, additional focus this year has also been to strengthen the sports facilities across the institutions. We believe that sports can contribute in an important way to build grit, resilience and self-discipline amongst students.

We are now moving forward and taking an important decision to upgrade the building of the Indiranagar school branch. This is our oldest school, over five decades in operation, and we feel that the school building and the infrastructure renovation will make the building more contemporary, safe and studentoriented. This entails a huge burden on our finances, much beyond our means. We derive our strength in moving forward with such a decision because of your cooperation and support. Your keen involvement with the school since its inception and our faith and hope in your support for the coming years instil confidence in us to endeavour on this mega project. We look forward to creating a better, safer and modern infrastructure.

We want to thank you for entrusting us with your children's education.

Best regards,

The School Management Team.

“… a child centric school”

Message from the Principals

It is an honour to be a part of an educational institution where every stake holder is a learner and every day is an opportunity to learn and grow.

With changing times there is a visible shift in the teaching and learning system as a whole. Experiential learning has changed how students interact with the educational content. Giving students a sustainable and high quality education along with exposure to world-class University programmes is one of the challenges ahead. The one size fits all philosophy can't prevail now. Academic success along with preparation to confront life's obstacles is what we at Spring Dale are emphasising upon. The individual and academic counselling is helping to develop students’ soft skills and learn to live a life of value and dignity.

Arrival of technological tools to the classrooms has brought in a sea of change in the way lessons are delivered and to support that, the smart boards in all the classes add to the enhancement tool for both the teacher and taught.

“…personalized learning for each student's strength, needs, talents and interests is one straight forward approach to the learning process. ”

We fortunately have a committed and supportive management, dedicated teachers, caring and cooperative parents which blend harmoniously to create a child centric school. In this ambience the children are allowed to explore, experience, enhance and empower so that they develop into sensitive and responsible citizens, strengthening the belief of our founders that every child is an individual and has the potential to achieve something significant.

This edition of Spring Voice unleashes the wide spectrum of creative skills ranging from writing to editing and even in designing the magazine. At the end we would like to extend our best wishes to all parents, students, staff and our alumni who have been our rock pillar support in all our endeavours.

Thank you.

Choice, Chance, Change, Capture…

There are no great people in the world, only great challenges, which ordinary people rise to meet. Being challenged in life is inevitable but our approach in coping with them makes all the difference.

As a counsellor I would like to give the four C’s - Choice, Chance, Change, Capture - which can be the keys to meet the challenges and grab the countless chances which come your way. Today’s world has innumerable chances which open up myriad of opportunities for you all to explore and fulfil your dreams. And making the right choice from the sea of chances is what will give fulfilment in life. The choices require internal and external changes which may be momentarily challenging and you may have to move out of your comfort zone and view life as a play coz – ‘Opportunity and risk go hand in hand’.

The famous cricketer – Sachin Tendulkar and M.S. Dhoni, whom you idolize are live examples of the C’s which helped them to climb the ladder of success in spite of the hardships and obstacles they had to overcome to reach where they are today. Sachin Tendulkar, gave 100% to his game to be the best and staked his education, but the outcome was the consequence of his focus for the choice he made in life and modified his environment to capture the number one position and sustain it for years.

“Adjusting to the changing situations need collaboration of both mind and body. Adapting to the external and bringing changes to your internal self is the key to complete wellbeing where mental health is the core aspect.”

The story of M.S. Dhoni is one that has captured the hearts of cricket fans around the world. From a humble beginning as a ticket collector in a railway station, in becoming one of India’s greatest captain. Dhoni’s journey is a testament to hard work, determination and power of self-belief. There are certain habits of mind which if developed, can be beneficial to any individual. Thinking flexibly i.e. to look at things in another way, being able to change perspectives, generate alternatives, consider options and let things which increase pessimism go! Manage impulsivity by being more thoughtful and deliberative. Persevering in tasks to completion and remaining focused, not giving up, is a sure short key to sustaining a balanced mind. Thinking about your thoughts, strategizing feelings and action will lead to what you expect from your environment. Communicating with clarity and precision in both written and oral form helps avoid clutter and confusion in the mind. Rather strive for accuracy, setting high standards, checking and finding ways to improve constantly will always smoothen the future path.

Here, I would like to quote the famous celebrity Deepika Padukone’s statement of hope and success. ‘Focus on what you have instead of dwelling on what you don’t’. Make the best of the worst circumstances and remain steadfast to your goal.

Celebrating a year of hidden talent unleashed…

Message – Editorial Board

As the editors and teachers overseeing the school editorial board, we are excited to look back on a year that truly celebrated the undiscovered potential and hidden skills within our student body. The school's commitment to nurturing individual abilities has shone brightly through various activities held throughout the academic year.

Our students excelled not only in regular academic pursuits but also in showcasing their creativity and literary skills. Write-ups, both moving and insightful, demonstrated a deep understanding and a unique perspective on diverse topics. Whether these being literary contests, open mics, or collaborative projects, every event encouraged students to explore and express their passions. The hidden talents of our students were not just revealed; they were celebrated, appreciated, and encouraged to flourish.

The literary sessions brought out a range of emotions, with students crafting verses that captured the essence of their thoughts and dreams.

From the quiet observer to the outspoken wordsmith, each person found their voice. The editorial team worked hard to curate and present these literary treasures, ensuring that the diverse tapestry of our student body was represented.

The year has been a testament to the school's dedication to recognizing and nurturing the diverse talents within its walls. As we look ahead to the next academic year, the bar has been set high, and we are confident that our students will continue to surprise and inspire us with their hidden gems of talent.

Thank you!

Krishna Sood Memorial Theatre Competition

To celebrate the exemplary life of our Founder, Late Krishna Sood an Inter School Musical Theatre Competition is initiated by the Institution from this year onward.

The idea of Cultural fest which will be an annual event of Spring Dale stems as an ode to Ma’am Krishna Sood, a woman of substance. Her exemplary life is worth a celebration.

A peaceful co-existence is what each one of us desires; based on this thought the theme chosen for the musical theatre, in its year of inception was ‘HARMONY’.

“the thespian talents of approximately 450 students from 12 esteemed schools flled the auditorium with ecstasy”

The day started with the ceremonial lamp lighting and a soulful prayer. The ethereal performances by the participating teams evoked the audience with emotions, as each selfscripted performance with the well weaved story line had a conscientious message to convey around the theme

Harmony.

Eminent theatre personalities – Shri Surya Mohan Kulshreshtha, Mr Punit Asthana, Mr. Gopal Sinha and author Dr. Navsharan Singh witnessed and gave their expert opinion and explained the nuances of theatre to the students. Schools that made to the top were CMS Gomti Nagar 1, Seth M. R. Jaipuria and Gurukul Academy.

The judges applauded the students for their participation and briefed them the advantage theatre plays in the lives of individuals. Shri Kulshrestha, the guest of honor told the students that with machines and technology, humans rather maintain

If we fail then all development will be a waste. Theatre is a big source to sustain our humanity as it develops the personality by polishing the capabilities. Theatre also asks one to be creative because in a limited space one has to show a large number of things unlike movies, hence it develops imagination and creativity.

With a smile, Lend a hand of help…

Awareness Week 2023

A tribute to our founders, is observed every year, for it inculcates the true values in each Spring Dale’ian, following the path paved by our founders of the Institution. Week long activities based on the theme started from July 18 after paying Homage to our founders Sir B.S. Sood and Ma’am Krishna Sood and concluded on July 25, 2023

‘Little acts of kindness, little words of love, make the earth an ocean and the heaven above’. Small acts of care and concern by the students for people around us who are in dire need came out as the foremost duty and desire for being happy individuals. During the brain storming sessions students came up with various ways in which they could be of help to the society.

“Lending a helping hand is not meant just for a day rather it is meant for each and every day”, this is what Spring Dale believes and instils in all the students.

Making the senior citizens tech savvy, teaching and sharing skills with the helper’s children, helping parents and grandparents with day to day chores, creating awareness regarding recycling and reducing carbon foot prints (buying refills only instead of whole body) were small examples of the initiatives taken by children. They thought of the action plan to execute their ideas which continued for the week. By the end of the week they felt happier, contended with a pledge to continue with their initiative. How to bridge the gap between the haves and the have - not is what one needs to ponder upon, was suggested by Prof. Atul Sood from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.

Reiterating the true value of lending a helping hand and spreading smile, a survey was conducted which suggested that 96% students found the awareness week topic to be relevant, they found the activities and the message it gave, have a deep impact on them.

Almost 95% students accepted that they developed some vital personality traits like kindness,

the changes which you have noticed in your best friend’s personality in last two years…

I have a best friend, named Anwesha. Her personality changed so much in last two years. I know her since childhood, she is a year older than me. She is bubble, talkative, energetic, helpful and caring.

The character trait I liked about her was that she did not ever was concerned about how she looked and dressed. But this was in 2021, now she is very concerned about how she looks. She has become self-conscious and less confident about herself. Now that she is an adolescent due to hormonal changes, she has many pimples on her face, for which she is less confident and concerned. She has bunny teeth so her parents got her braces done on her teeth because of which she doesn’t smile in photos like she used to do two years ago. I told her that the pimples she had made her look even more beautiful and the braces after two months would make her smile even better but she didn’t understand.

Her school friends group has a number of beautiful girls from whom she gets insecure. Due to less confidence and insecurities she has become shy and her school friends discourage her even more. She was never aggressive how she is now. She gets angry on small things. Either she stays quiet or gets angry. She wants to do everything now only like exploring cafes, malls and having sleepovers etc. She smiles rarely. She cries out very much about her insecurities and self-confidence. She has mood swings many times during the day. Her way of talking, walking and dressing has changed so much.

Sometimes she gets stressed by thinking that I will leave her because she is not good looking and has a bad personality. But I have told her that I didn’t make friends with her because of her face but because there was some kind of connection and vibe between us. She used to love junk food like pizza, burger, memos and chocolates, but she hates them now, saying that she will become fat if she eats them.

One thing good that is changed in her personality is that she has become more focused in studies than before. As it’s her 10th, sometimes she gets stressed but she is working hard and hard work always pays off. She was never this serious in her studies but now because her parents said that if she scored good marks in her boards, she would get her own personal mobile phone. She is studying really hard and so far, she is scoring good marks in tests too. I am really happy that she is studying hard but not really happy about her low selfconfidence. Somewhere I believe that someday she will understand that she is beautiful. She got pimples on her face just like moon got marks but still it is beautiful.

Skills that children need to learn in order to succeed is the ability to get along with others.
How far do you agree with this maxim?

“One of the most important skills that children need to learn in order to succeed is the ability to get along with others’’ to be fairly honest this statement is quite hard to follow and apply in real life but the statement is nowhere wrong, to be précised. It is very important to have a friendly, healthy, coordinated and cooperative environment at work places or study places.

A man who does not possess the ability or desire to be on good terms with people, usually faces a lot of hardships and hurdles in his life. Now it is absolutely not necessary that people have to be on friendly terms with anyone or everyone, after all we are human beings and do not want to or wish to agree with the other person, all we have to do is to be polite and cordial about the situation rather than being rude or arrogant.

It is very easy for human beings to be unkind, rude and unpleasant; I mean its normal human nature but the art of being polite and manipulative is something that the youth needs to work on. An in-charge who is bossy, temperamental, strict and unpleasant would shout and scold his employees to make them work. The employees under his inchargeship would work only because they have been asked to and not because they want to and on the other hand, if there is an in charge who speaks politely, is friendly and sugar-coats his words, would be loved by all. The people working under him will always respect him and the working environment of that place would also be very joyful and extremely non-toxic, unlikely the aforementioned in charge’s workplace.

Since it is for the youth, the example should be taken somewhere from where they can relate, like if you would notice in teaching institute like schools and colleges, there are always teachers whom children prefer over other teachers whom children absolutely dislike. The only reason for it, is the art of getting along with other.

It is very important to get along with the others and the youth needs to learn it if they need a peaceful life.

My failure, and how it inspired me to work harder…

Failure is something that people think that it needs to be forgotten but it is something that we need to remember. We should always learn from our failures; we should try not to repeat those mistakes. Instead of being afraid of failure, we should be ready to face it, and improve the mistake we have made.

There are many incidents which inspired me to work harder. I love playing musical instruments. One of them is my synthesizer- Casio. I have been playing Casio since last two years, I’m still not perfect at it but I am trying my best to improve. I used to play Casio using alphabets A to G and numbers from one to seven, but I knew that this thing would not work forever, I have to learn that how to read a music sheet. But learning to read a music sheet is same as learning a new and a hard language like Korean, Russian or Arabic and many more.

Those who have learned or they are learning, know the difficulty and struggles demanded in it. My elder brother knows how to play Casio using music sheet. He always used to tease me for that. It was quite demotivating, I felt like crying and thought I should give up. I am just a failure but still, with some hope, I continued my practice. I worked harder and harder, tried my best to learn and recognize the signs and yes with the dedication I showed in it, I have improved a lot now, still I will say that I’m not perfect, I will continue learning from my failures and will improve for sure.

Through all this, I have learnt that failure does not make us weak. It makes us even stronger, and leads us to the path of success.

Amusement and Merriment…

Roshni – a children’s festival 2023

The school echoed with joy, as students and staff alike immersed themselves in a day filled with festivities for “Roshni Celebration – A Children’s Festival”. The day was marked with a heartfelt tribute to the Institution's esteemed founder Mrs. Krishna Sood, whose vision and dedication has been the guiding light for the institution. Students paid homage through speeches, poems, and musical performances, highlighting her pivotal role in shaping the school’s ethos.

The entire campus buzzed with excitement as every class and section participated in various activities that not only entertained but also educated. Board decorations adorned the corridors, narrating the school’s journey under Ma’am Krishna Sood’s guidance.

Flower decorations added a touch of elegance, symbolizing the blossoming growth nurtured by the founder. Cooking without fire showcased the culinary skills of students, fostering creativity and teamwork.

Art took centre stage with painting and sketching activities. Students explored Mandala, Madhubani, and calligraphy, each stroke narrating a story of cultural richness. These artistic endeavors reflected the school’s commitment to holistic education, nurturing not just academic excellence but also a deep appreciation for culture and heritage. Roshni Celebration at SDC, IN was not just a festival; it was an embodiment of gratitude, creativity, and unity. As the echoes of laughter and the vibrant hues of art lingered in the air, it was evident that the celebration had not only illuminated the physical spaces but also ignited the hearts of every Dalian.

When in doubt, go to the Library…

Literary activity

The more you read, the more you learn and the more places you go. Books transform you to a world of imagination where you find yourself identifying with the character of the books.

At Gomti Nagar Branch, the children enacted their favorite character from the books of their choice, role playing with props and dialogues. Besides taking us on a tour to imaginary land of fairies and elves, books also inspire us.

After reading the Biographies of some great personalities like Sir APJ Abdul Kalam, Vishwanathan Anand, Albert Einstein to name a few, the children were not only motivated by these luminary figures but spoke about their heroes in the reading activity conducted during their respective library period . These activities prove to be beneficial in instilling moral values in the children and encourage them to read more.

At Indira Nagar, World Reading Day was celebrated on April 24, 2023 with the theme ‘Spring Dale College Reading Together’ in recognition to the value of reading. Followed by celebrating the birthdays of authors, J.K. Rowling, Munshi Premchand. As a part of the celebration, an open Quiz Competition was organized for students of classes VI to XII on 31 July 2023.

At Kanpur Road branch, the children were asked to pick a book of their choice and read it. Then through the pictures they shared their thoughts with each other. On a bookmark they wrote few lines about their favourite characters.

In the month of October, the students of classes VII, VIII & IX were engaged in Graphic Story Creation in the library to develop their confidence and speaking skills. On 30 Nov 2023, the Hindi Story Telling Competition was organized for Grade IV & V. The students narrated the Indian Folktale moral based stories. In the month of December, Newspaper Creation Activity was done by the students of classes V & VI, they took part with great enthusiasm by utilizing their imaginary skills with the help of library resources in a creative manner.

By doing this activity they enhanced their understanding of the text and also followed the instructional method which helped the children to become more organised and work as a team.

“Tigers are one of a kind, we’ll always keep them in mind…”

In the heart of an impenetrable, lush jungle, where majestic canopies of ancient trees towered over a labyrinthine of verdant undergrowth, a formidable sentient predator known as Amar prowled with an aura of dignified grace. Adorned in a regal coat of sleek, sun-kissed orange and black stripes that shimmered under the dappling sunlight, this resplendent tiger was not an ordinary creature; he was the very embodiment of an endangered species on the brinks of annihilation, the sole survivor of his kind in this untamed, unforgiving realm. Deep within this visceral, primeval landscape, a group of audacious, conservationists led by Dr. Evelyn Hunter were united by a fervent desire to alter the relentless trajectory of fate. Their pursuit, nay, their noble mission was to bestow a glimmer of hope upon Amar and his fellow tigers, granting them the coveted opportunity to flourish once more. Bound by an unyielding spirit of resilience, Dr. Evelyn, a tenacious scientist of unparalleled intellect, deftly wove his aspiration with those of his esteemed colleagues and a zealous corps of dedicated volunteers. And thus, the clarion call to action resonated through the ethereal expanse of the jungle, marking the inception of an audacious yet visionary endeavour.

A colossal expanse of fertile land was meticulously transformed into an impregnable, awe inspiring conservation sanctuary, - a heaven where tigers could roam freely, untainted by the spectre of human encroachment. Together, they embarked upon an arduous, intricate odyssey, establishing a formidable network of highly trained rangers who tirelessly patrolled the sanctuary, safeguarding the noble sensing techniques, they scrutinized the very health of the vegetation that sustained the tigers, deftly identifying the areas in dire need of restoration, curating a harmonious ecosystem that would ensure tigers’ significance, and would endure for generations to come. Henceforth, Amar the last bastion of his fadin g lineage, stood at the

precipice of an era, his descendants flourishing in a world that had once stood poised to consign them to oblivion.

Dr. Evelyn and his formidable team had etched indelibly into the history; their unwavering dedication stood as a testament to the in candescent resilience of the human spirit and the soaring heights of ingenuity. As the embers of the dusk imparted an ethereal glow beneath the lush canopy. Amar in a solitary movement of veneration, raised his majestic head and roared. It was the roar of gratitude, the roar of resilience and a sonorous scream of hope: a call that transcended the verdant expanse, reverberating not merely through the secretive enclaves of the jungle, but also within the deepest recesses of human-heart. In that timeless moment, the world stood still united in its collective resolve to perpetuate the splendour of these magnificent tigers. Let’s vow to make this world a “better world” for tigers!

It was raining hard that night. In my hurry to get into the house, I didn’t notice the black car parked across the road, I realized something was wrong when I heard someone click pictures of me getting inside my house, drenched because of rain. I turned around to see the person inside the car by squinting my eyes real hard but I couldn’t catch a glimpse of them because of the heavy rains. I carefully got inside the house, locked all doors and windows, except my kitchen’s window which was facing the street, making the black car barely visible. Suddenly, my phone pinged, I nearly jumped out of my skin. I picked up my phone, it was the guy whom I added on my snapchat yesterday. We had been talking regularly since yesterday, I had shared a picture of myself in front of my house. He sent a picture, I opened it. It was a picture of my house, then a picture of me entering the house and me turning around and looking around in fear. I threw my phone on the couch feeling horrified and sick to stomach. My anxiety bursting through the roof, my hands and legs trembling because of the fear.

Abruptly, someone started banging all the windows and front door. I was too horrified to move a single piece of flesh in my body. The poundings got louder. I gathered up the courage to go and pick up my phone. I called the police with my voice shaking because of fear. After the conversation with the lady, she dispatched a few officers.

Due to the commotion, my neighbor rushed out and saw the man. He yelled out for him to get away when the police arrived and arrested the guy.

As a gesture of thanks, I gave them a box of cookies.

An unquenched

thirst…

This story is about two jungles, Haripur and Laalpur. They were in their youth, unexploited by the rapid urbanization. Both the jungles were rich in greenery, fauna and flora. They used to be lit up with the freshness, ferocity and flamboyancy of their assets. The intermediate space between the jungles had a river that offered a thin, pontoon passage to the animals.

Both Haripur and Laalpur had its own king. The brothers, Shershah-the king of Haripur and Shersingh –the king of Laalpur. They were rivals to each other. The reason for their rivalry, enmity was a superiority complex. Each of them wanted to confiscate other’s properties. In order to fulfill the king’s wish, their states were always at war and no good feelings prevailed among them for each other.

On a freezing cold day during winters, both Shershah and Shersingh decided to go on hunting. They both were ready with their armaments and headed towards their destination s. Shershah was to hunt at Kushmi Jungle near Laalpur. Shersingh always hunted at the same Tirahichauk beside Haripur. Both targeted at each other’s assets. In this course, both of them were losing their property to each other but they were delighted that they were capturing each other in this way.

Shershah and Shersingh met at that thin pontoon passage over the pond. They indulged into speeches to prove their hierarchy. Shershah claimed Kushmi to be a fruitful place for hunting while Shersingh claimed Tirahichauk to be the one after arguing a little they ended up with no conclusion and they moved on towards their respective destinations.

The pontoon bridge offered a very thin passage. Only one at a time could pass through it. Neither Sharshah nor Shersingh was ready to wait. Both of them moved ahead with force with an intent to make the other fall. The pontoon bridge could not bear the thrust and broke.

The freezing water and inability to swim, led Shershah and Shersingh both to death.

Snapshots of silence

In the heart of the world, where light dances, Stands the camera, a silent sentinel. A silent captor of moments, a silent chronicler, In the heart of the world, where light dances.

In the silence of the night, when the world is asleep, the camera captures the moonlight, casting shadows of dreams. Each pixel a memory, each pixel a dream, In the language of the camera, the poetry of the night.

In the heart of the forest, where the leaves whispers, the camera captures the wind, a melody of nature. Each rustle a memory, each sway a dream, In the language of the camera, the poetry of the forest.

In the heart of the world, where light dances, And in the heart of the forest, where leaves whisper.

In the silence of the night, when the world is asleep, In the language of the camera, the poetry of the world, the poetry of the forest, the poetry of night.
