Die üblichen Öffnungszeiten in St. Moritz sind von 9 – 12.30 und 14 – 18.30 oder 19 Uhr. Am Samstag schliessen die meisten Shops bereits um 17 Uhr. Während der Saison bleiben viele Boutiquen über Mittag durchgehend und abends länger geöffnet; manche auch sonntags. For the most part, shops in St. Moritz are open from 9 am to 12.30 pm, and from 2 pm to 6.30 or 7 pm On Saturday, most of the shops already close at 5 pm. During the high season, many of them are open over lunchtime, and stay open longer in the evening; some boutiques are also open on Sunday.

ALPHÜTTE C LAVA DAT S C H Am 22. Dezember öffnet die Alphütte Clavadatsch im Suvretta Hang von St. Moritz. Im alten Stall werden tagsüber Schweizer Klassiker wie das KäseFondue, Käsespätzli oder knusprige Rösti sowie Fleischgerichte vom offenen Kaminfeuer serviert. Ausgenommen mittwochs, ist die Hütte am Abend nur für private Veranstaltungen geöffnet. Vom Hotel Schweizerhof ist die Alphütte Clavadatsch in 40 Minuten zu Fuss erreichbar. Mit den Skiern gelangen Sie vom Suvretta-Hang fast bis zur Alphütte. On December 22, the Alphütte Clavadatsch, located on the St. Moritz Suvretta slope, will open its doors. In this converted barn, Swiss classics such as cheese fondue, cheese dumplings and crispy Rösti as well as meat dishes are served to diners by the open fire. Except on Wednesdays, the lodge is open only for private events in the evening. SNOWS PORT S S T. M O R I T Z Die älteste und grösste Skischule der Schweiz steht seit 1929 für professionellen und qualitativ hochstehenden Unterricht in St. Moritz , Celerina und Samedan. Ob Skifahren, Snowboarden oder Langlaufen – 350 ausgebildete Schneesportlehrer aus über 14 Nationen bringen Anfänger und Fortgeschrittene schnell an ihr persönliches Ziel. Im Privat- und Gruppenunterricht verbessern Sportbegeisterte ihre Fähigkeiten auf der Skipiste. In Salastrains und Celerina üben speziell ausgebildete Kinderskilehrer mit den Jüngsten im Snowli Kids Village und auf den grossen Anfänger-Übungsgeländen die ersten Fahrversuche. Mit den verschiedenen Programmen von Swiss Snow League und Spezialangeboten wie Freestyle-Unterricht, Telemark, Off-Piste oder Schneeschuhwandern bietet die Skischule auch für Jugendliche und Erwachsene ein lehrreiches und abwechslungsreiches Schneesportvergnügen. Speziell ausgebildete Blindenskilehrer sorgen dafür, dass auch Menschen mit eingeschränktem Sehvermögen einen tollen Wintersporttag in einem der grössten Skigebiete der Schweiz erleben. Während der Ski WM 2017 bietet die Skischule zudem spezielle Guiding-Angebote für Skifahrer und Nichtskifahrer. Am 23. Februar und 2. März 2017 zeigen die Schneesportlehrer bei der traditionellen Snow Show beim Skilift Provulèr in Celerina ihr Können. Since 1929 top-level instructors at the oldest and largest ski school in Switzerland have taught skiers in St. Moritz, Celerina and Samedan. At these centres, some 350 world-class snow sports instructors help aspirants from beginner to advanced levels to quickly reach their goal. Snow sports enthusiasts can improve their skiing, snowboarding or cross-country skiing skills on the slopes, either in private or group lessons. In Salastrains and Celerina, specially trained children’s ski instructors practise with the youngest skiers at the Snowli Kids Village and on the vast beginners training ground. With its various programs from the Swiss Snow League as well as special offers such as freestyle lessons, Telemark, off-piste, or snowshoeing, the skiing school offers diverse and educational winter sports fun for children and adults alike. Also, specially trained skiing instructors for the visually impaired ensure that partially sighted sports enthusiasts can also enjoy fantastic winter sport at one of Switzerland’s largest ski resorts. During the World Ski Championships 2017, the ski school will offer special Guiding deals for skiers and non-skiers. Also, on 23 February and 2 March, the snow sports instructors will demonstrate their skills at the traditional Snow Show in Celerina at the ski-lift Provulèr.

Die Nähe der Käserei Alp Nova zum MorteratschGletscher gab dem Frischfondue der Sennerei Pontresina seinen Namen. Für die Käsemischung wird nur erstklassiger und ausgereifter Schweizer Rohmilchkäse verwendet. Das Gletscherfondue ist in den Sorten Hausmischung, Moitié-Moitié, Champagner-Trüffel, Kräuter und Röschtigraben erhältlich. Die Alp Nova liegt nur 5 Kilometer vom Dorfkern Pontresina entfernt und ist ab der Bahnhaltestelle Morteratsch sowie dem Parkplatz Morteratsch in zwei bis fünf Minuten erreichbar.
The proximity of the dairy Alp Nova to the Morteratsch Glacier gave the Gletscherfondue (glacier fondue) its name. For this fresh fondue, the cheese speciality store Sennerei Pontresina’s uses only prime and mature Swiss raw milk cheeses in the cheese blends. The Gletscherfondue is available as house blend, Moitié-Moitié, Champagne-truffle, herbs and Röschtigraben. At the store in Pontresina, you will find a huge selection of regional and international cheese specialties among the fresh dairy products, delicacies, and everything that goes with the cheese theme. Every Tuesday to Sunday from 9.30 am to 11.30 am, from 12 June to 8 October, cheese lovers are welcome to come and enjoy the sumptuous Alpbrunch at the mountain chalet of the Sennerei Pontresina. After a hearty breakfast, patrons can watch the cheesemaker produce fresh Heutaler, Gletschermutschli or the famous Berg-Ziger at the show dairy. Alp Nova is located only five kilometres from Pontresina village and can be reached from the Morteratsch railway station or the Morteratsch car park in less than five minutes.

Emerita and Dani Matter specialise in little-known wines from small vineyards, and their offerings of excellent bottles at attractive prices is the secret of their success. The Matters are true to the principle that the best wines are true to the origin, grape variety and typicality of the region. At first, the shop focused mainly on Italian wines, but now buyers can discover varieties from Switzerland, from the best Austrian wine regions and from Spain; not to mention the wide variety of Magnum bottles available. Dani Matter's fine instincts always lead to surprising finds. Also, look out for the delicious olive oil, lothe balsamic vinegar, speciality pasta, sott'oli (Italian pickles), dolcetti or selected grappas. If in doubt, ask! – you’ll get some good advice here.

Mit Werken, Künstlern und Themen aus dem alpinen Raum sorgt sie für einen kulturellen Mehrwert in Pontresina. Gleichzeitig befindet sich die Rezeption der Alpine Lodges in der öffentlichen Galerie. Die Gemälde und Fotografien werden rund um einem Arvenholz-Kubus in Szene gesetzt und schaffen mit ihren abstrakten Formen und Linien eine besondere Atmosphäre. In der Winterausstellung wird Guido Baselgia einen Zyklus unter dem Titel «Weitung» präsentieren. In diesem Themenzirkel fokussiert der Engadiner Fotokünstler auf Grenz- und Randzonen, in denen die Abstraktion und Reduktion zur Irritation führen.

The plattner & plattner Art Gallery opened its doors for the first time in July with an exhibition by Pontresina artist Guido Baselgia. With works by artists and themes from the Alpine region, the gallery adds a distinct cultural value to Pontresina. The gallery also houses the reception for Alpine Lodges. The paintings and photographs are staged on an imposing pinewood wood cube, creating a special atmosphere with their abstract shapes and lines. In the winter exhibition, Guido Baselgia will present his new works under the title "Weitung" (widening). Under this topic, the Engadine photographer focuses on boundary zones and fringes in which the abstraction and reduction are irritating.

G A L E R I E PETER VANN Auf der Suche nach dem roten Faden im fotografischen Werk Peter Vanns stösst man sehr schnell auf das Überraschungsmoment. Das war bei den mittlerweile berühmten Tierporträts «Bestiarium» so. Und es wird – garantiert – bei der aktuellen Serie VEGETALIS nicht anders sein. Was beim raschen Vorbeigehen allzu einfach mit «Gräser vor farbigen Flächen» beschrieben werden könnte, lohnt den zweiten Blick auf alle Details. Da ist nichts Künstliches, nichts von Studio oder geplantem Arrangement. Die optische Ruhe des farbigen Hintergrunds sublimiert vielmehr, was Natur und Pflanzenwelt des Engadins uns an Rhythmus und Bewegung anbieten. Über die Dauer von fast zwei Jahren hat Peter Vann so Spielarten biologischer Dynamik und Abstraktion eingefangen und mit Farbflächen kombiniert. Lässt sich das neue Jahr überzeugender als mit der Vision von Bewegung und farblicher Vielfalt beginnen? Wohl kaum und so offeriert die Galerie mit ihrer im Dezember beginnenden Ausstellung erneut ein Veranstaltungs-Highlight der Engadiner Wintersaison.

When searching for the hidden thread running through the photographic work of Peter Vann, one quickly finds the secret. That was true with the animal portraits Bestiarium and – guaranteed – it will not be different with his new Vegetalis series. What can be described too easily as “grasses in front of coloured surfaces” is worth a second look to catch all the details. There is nothing artificial or over-studied in these arrangements, but the stillness and calm of the background sublimely express elements from the natural world of the Engadine, suggesting gentle rhythm and movement in the foreground. Vann spent nearly two years on this project of capturing a variety of biological dynamism and abstraction. Can the New Year begin more persuasively than with this vision of movement and colour? We don’t think so! Vann’s exhibition, beginning in December, adds another event highlight to the Engadine winter season.

ZUFFELLATO
In den ganzen Jahren haben die Werke von Marco Zuffellato nichts von ihrer Faszination verloren. Der einheimische Künstler arbeitet mit organischen Elementen wie Schwemmholz, Schädeln, Federn oder Rosshaar, aber auch mit rohem Metall und scheinbar sinnlosen Fundgegenständen. Daraus zaubert er mit intuitiver Schöpfungskraft Skulpturen und Objekte von archaischer Schönheit. Gestalten zwischen Licht und Schatten, Leben und Tod. Neben funktionellen und massiven Objekten lässt er immer wieder seine «Totemmännli» aufleben – dekorative kleinere Figuren aus Holz. Seine Werke versprühen eine ganz eigene Ästhetik und entwickeln dabei beinahe mystische Energie – ähnlich den Kultobjekten primitiver Stämme. Das Atelier mit Showroom kann nach Vereinbarung besichtigt werden.

The artwork of Marco Zuffellato has lost none of its appeal over the years. This local artist works with organic elements such as driftwood, skulls, feathers and horse hair as well as raw metal and other odd found objects. From such items, he uses an intuitive creativity to produce sculptures and other interesting objects that exude a certain archaic beauty. These pieces, many displaying a timelessness, also reveal a play between light and shadow, life and death. Zuffellato produces functional items such as tables and lamps, large-scale architectural sculpture and appears especially fond of creating his "Totemmännli" – groups of small figures made of wood that are reminiscent of African sculpture and seem charged with an energy of their own. His work is characterised by a particular aesthetic, with the cult objects of primitive tribes clearly a strong influence. The studio and showroom can be visited by appointment.
