Life Science Austria: Advancing life science at the heart of Europe Welcome to the LISA Pavilion 17D20 at MEDICA 2013!

Over the past decade, Austria has established itself as a wellrespected hub of the life science industry. Region by region, the life science industry has spread across Austria from the capital Vienna to the powerhouses of Styria, Tyrol and Upper and Lower Austria. Each region has its own special culture and particular strengths that are reflected in the local companies who are organised through regional life science clusters. In Austria a total 435 companies can be related to the field of medical technology. These companies employ in total almost 25,000 people and have a turnover of 7.4 billion euros.

Life Science Austria (LISA) promotes the life science sector in Austria on the international stage and is the first point of call for enquiries relating to it. Organised through regional life science clusters, LISA represents companies in the therapeutic, medical technology and diagnostic sectors as well as providers of enabling technologies.

MEDICA 2013 – World Forum for Medicine The global health market is growing annually by about six per cent. MEDICA in Düsseldorf is the largest and leading medical trade fair worldwide and has been able to continually build on its position as an influential platform for transnational business, information and expert exchange. Indicators for this outstanding role of MEDICA are amongst others an ageing society, a strong population growth, technical advancement and above all, the increased purchasing power all over the world. The high level of internationality among exhibitors and visitors is testament to this.

Almost three quarters of the more than 4,500 exhibitors at MEDICA 2012 were international participations. At the same time more than one in two of the total of 130,600 trade visitors came from outside Germany to the city on the Rhine.

Even though MEDICA looks back on a history of more than 40 years of successful events and takes place every year, MEDICA one year is never the same as MEDICA the following year. Product ranges in the trade fair and the accompanying congresses are continually revised and adapted to visitors‘ changed requirements. It is only in this way that the right target groups can be directed to the exhibitors. Once again, for MEDICA 2013, which will take place from November 20 to 23 in Düsseldorf, numerous ideas will be put „into action“. Read more about this year’s MEDICA on the following pages!

Der globale Gesundheitsmarkt wächst jährlich um rund sechs Prozent. Eine alternde Gesellschaft, starkes Bevölkerungswachstum, der technische Fortschritt und die Zunahme der Kaufkraft in weiten Teilen der Welt sind die treibenden Kräfte.

or diesem Hintergrund entwickeln sich die Gesundheitsmärkte in den meisten Ländern schneller als das Bruttoinlandsprodukt. Halten diese Trends unverändert an, steigt der weltweite Gesundheitsmarkt von aktuell gut 5 Billionen auf rund 15 Billionen Euro im Jahr 2030.

Wie sich die Struktur der Nachfrage verändert, so vielschichtig präsentiert sich der globale Markt auch in Bezug auf das Angebot. Einst eher als Low-Price-Anbieter betrachtet stellen sich etwa Großkonzerne aus China weltweit dem Wettbewerb mit den marktbestimmenden „Big Playern“ und haben die Qualität ihrer Produkte sowie ihr Service-Angebot deutlich gesteigert. Und auch Unternehmen aus aufstrebenden Schwellenländern wie

Indien, Malaysia oder Thailand haben in stark preisorientierten Marktsegmenten bereits auch Kliniken in Europa oder Amerika als Abnehmer.

Daraus erklärt es sich auch, warum die MEDICA als weltweit größte und führende Medizinmesse ihre Position als maßgebende Plattform für länderübergreifendes Business, Information und den Expertenaustausch kontinuierlich ausbauen konnte. Der hohe Internationalitätsgrad auf der Aussteller- sowie Besucherseite ist ein Beleg dafür. Fast drei Viertel der mehr als 4.500 Aussteller der MEDICA 2012 waren internationale Beteiligungen. Zugleich kam mehr als jeder zweite der insgesamt 130.600 Fachbesucher nicht aus Deutschland.

Dabei hilft den Ausstellern, dass die in den letzten Jahren forcierte zielgruppenspezifische Marketing-Kampagne der MEDICA Früchte trägt: Immer mehr Besucher sind Top-Entscheider (93 % Entscheiderquote).

Immer am Puls der Zeit Wenngleich die MEDICA auf eine mehr als 40 Jahre währende erfolgreiche Veranstaltungshistorie zurückblickt und jedes Jahr stattfindet, so gleicht kein Jahr dem anderen. Angebote in der Fachmesse und den begleitenden Kongressen werden fortlaufend überarbeitet und den veränderten Erfordernissen der Besucher angepasst. So gelingt es, den Ausstellern die richtigen Zielgruppen zuzuführen. Auch für die MEDICA 2013 werden wieder zahlreiche Ideen „in die Tat“ umgesetzt.

Relaunch für das Kongressprogramm So erfährt das Kongressprogramm der MEDICA eine Neupositionierung. Die programmatische Weiterentwicklung des Kongresses sieht ein schärferes Themenprofil vor, eine noch engere Verzahnung mit den Themen der MEDICA-Fachmesse und den Ausbau des internationalen Programmparts. Deshalb erfolgt auch die Umbenennung in „MEDICA Conferences & Forums“.

Unter dem Titel MEDICA EDUCATION CONFERENCE bilden teilnehmerstarke Kurse der Vorjahre die Basis z. B. zu allgemeinmedizinischen Themen inklusive der Praxiskurse am Gerät, die unverändert mit CME-Punkten für die ärztliche Fortbildung zertifiziert sind.

Englischsprachige Programmbestandteile sind unterdessen bereits in diesem Jahr eine Vortragsreihe zu aktuellen Aspekten in Bezug auf individualisierte Medizin, eine internationale Konferenz zu Katastrophen- und Wehrmedizin sowie eine hochkarätige Veranstaltung für die internationale Sportmedizin-Fachszene.

Deutscher Krankenhaustag & European Hospital Conference Fester Bestandteil der MEDICA 2013 ist zudem der 36. Deutsche Krankenhaustag als die führende Informations- und Kommunikationsplattform für alle Entscheider der Kliniken in Deutschland. Parallel dazu werden etwa 150 bis 170 Top-Entscheider aus Europas Krankenhäusern am 20. November 2013 zur zweiten EUROPEAN HOSPITAL CONFERENCE (EHC) in Düsseldorf erwartet. Die EHC findet im Zwei-Jahres-Rhythmus statt.

Foren und Fachmesse Als weitere Programmkomponenten von MEDICA Conferences & Forums greifen auch die in die Fachmesse integrierten Foren maßgebliche Trends auf. Dazu zählen u. a. MEDICA HEALTH IT FORUM (IT-Trends, Telemedizin/Halle 15) und MEDICA TECH FORUM (Entwicklungen auf dem Gebiet der Hightech-Medizin) mit jeweils auch englischsprachigen Vorträgen, MEDICA PHYSIO FORUM (Physiotherapieverfahren/Halle 4) sowie etwa das 2012 erfolgreich von der Messe Düsseldorf und der Techniker Krankenkasse (TK) initiierte MEDICA ECON FORUM zu Fragen der Nutzenbewertung und Finanzierung von Innovationen.

MEDICA und COMPAMED – Die Medizintechnik-Industrie und ihre Zulieferer Die fortschreitende Miniaturisierung in der Medizintechnik betrachtend wird wunderbar das Zusammenspiel der MEDICA mit der parallelen COMPAMED, der international führenden Marktplattform der Zulieferer für die Medizintechnik-Industrie (20. bis 22.

November 2013, Hallen 8a und 8b) deutlich.
