Programme Notes Hattingh Davel: Jesus I am extremely privileged and honoured to, once again, be part of the Lady Grey Passion Play this year. The hard work, dignity and talent present in the school and the town of Lady Grey is a testimony of a Greater Power. This year, I would like to extend my gratitude to a number of people who have supported me, trusted me and guided me through this astonishing and life changing journey. To the members of the Lady Grey Arts Academy who have shared the stage with me over the past six years: you have inspired me and brought me to joyful tears. You have shown me what is to live your dream. Hendrik, Johan and Marquin, thank you for believing in me, guiding me, trusting me and bringing out the best in me. You have showed me true friendship. Lastly, my family and wife, Annerien, thank you for always supporting me. You have shown me the meaning of being a true servant of God with your unconditional love.
Johan Hattingh: Director 2016 is the year when Easter is three weeks earlier than usual, and rehearsals could only start in late February. I trust that with the help of my crew: Marquin Sharneck, Mariëtte Pitout, and the assistant directors Marie Swanepoel, Marcelle Botha and Vernon Francis, that this Passion Play will be an amazing experience as always. The proclamation of the Word of God and telling of His story, seems to be getting more and more difficult due to politics and other circumstances. But as He said to His disciples that it is not going to be easy and people will put you down and ostracise you. We will keep on spreading the message of love and forgiveness. This Passion Play is to enhance each one's relationship with his/her Saviour and not to judge others. My utmost gratitude goes to Marquin and Mariëtte who were there to pick up the pieces when I was unable to carry on. Also to Marie, Vernon and Marcelle who did not hesitate to jump in and do things that they never have done. You all have the love and light of God shining through you. I wish everyone a spiritual renewal and an experience that you will never forget.
Mariëtte Pitout: Musical Director We praise the Lord our Father for blessing us with the wonderful talent of singing and making music. It is a privilege which comes with a great responsibility: using it to glorify and honour His wonderful name. This is what we aim to do with our musical contribution to Passion Play 2016 - all honour to God alone! The music has been carefully selected in creating the mood, sculpting the ambiance and setting atmosphere, thus creating anticipation. It is a combination of different musical genres, languages and emotions - reflecting the complexity of every persons' most inner being; from the deepest joy, faith and peace, to the darkest, sinful struggle of each human being. In this way all music serves a very specific purpose to bring an honest, true and human element to every character on stage. A big thank you goes to all the people who have helped and assisted me: Luyanda Khumalo, Marilena Hoogendoorn, Karen Vorster, Johan Hattingh and Hendrik Bekker.
