Lodge No. 15, Buckholts Dear Members: President Leslie Sakewitz opened the regular meeting of Lodge 15 by leading our members in the Pledge of Allegiance.

All officers were present except Vice President Joe Zajicek.

Brother Leslie Sakewitz welcomed our guests, Dan Balusek, Thomas Harwell and Gene Marak to the meeting.

"Happy Anniversary" was wished to Ed and Sidonia Svoboda (their 46th), Pat and Warren Hillman (18th), Leslie and Louise Sakewitz (5th). We hope all of you have many more to come.

Richard Tomasek, who will have surgery, was on the sick list. Al reports were approved as read.

The delegates beginning with Pat Hillman, gave interesting reports of what happened at the convention. She read the new SPJST By - laws, especially the ones pertaining to us.

The weather here sure has been hot and dry. Some places around here had a good rain, but, here in town, we were left out; had a little rain but not too much.

Don't forget about the First Cotton Festival we will have at Buckholts on August 6th. We really are planning a big day. Then to kick off the festival, we will have a big dance here at the hall on August 5th beginning at 8 p.m. A "King Cotton" will be crowned and the cotton farmer with the prettiest legs will be announced, so we are planning a big time. All the members are asked to bring something sweet to the dance to sell. Be sure and come; we will be looking for you.

Our next meeting will be August 10th at 7 p.m.

Sister Lil Nezval won the door prize.

The table, along with items furnished by the lodge, was filled with the help of donated food and drink by Sisters Hanzelka, Helen Kelner and Nezval. Brothers A.J. "Tony" Kelner and Albert Lupik were in on this donation, also.

Thanks to Sisters Hanzelka, Brdecka, H. Kelner along with Sister Nezval, the clean up went quickly and everyone was able to go home earlier.

The trustees of the Czech National Cemetery announced that there will be a meeting of this association Sunday, August 14th at 2 p.m. in the SPJST Lodge Hall. All persons having loved ones and relations in this cemetery are invited to participate.

Although this association is not part of the SPJST Lodge, the officers of the lodge sanction this meeting and URGE ALL of the above - mentioned persons to attend whether they are lodge members or not.

On a sad note, we lost a once active member. Sister Ann (Foitik) Luquette of East Bernard passed away July 16th at 12:45 p.m. in the Lake Jackson Nursing Home in Lake Jackson, Texas. She was 80 years, 8 months and 19 days old.

The agenda will have, along with the regular reports, another report on the convention activities plus any business needing attention.

A fraternal gathering and luncheon is to be held after the business meeting.

On July 3rd the regular monthly meeting was held with a small quorum present. All reports were accepted as given. A short report on convention activities was just 'bumped" over and another report is planned for the August meeting.

Dear Members: Our meeting was called to order at 2:30 p.m. by President George Pauling.

Flags were presented by Bill Warren and. Larry Yates with Michael Warren leading everyone in the Pledge and Lodge Motto; everyone was asked to remain standing for a moment of silence for our deceased members, Sister Marie White and Sister Angeline West. May they rest in eternal peace.

All officers were present.

Secretary Bonnie Pruitt read the minutes of our previous meeting and they were approved. She also read a letter concerning the alcohol law training course.

Sister Darlene Engelke read a thank you note from the Marie White and Angeline West families.

Brother Jim Locke thanked everyone who came and helped to clean up the hall before the District YAD. Board minutes were read by Sister Mary Alice Langlotz and were approved.

Sister Jeanette Smith read a thank you from Caritas and Lighthouse for the Blind.

The Entertainment Committee's report was given by Sister Polly Gaidusek; for our August 21st meeting, members are asked to bring

cookies and the committee will serve ice cream. She also read a thank you from the Frank Kolenovsky family.

Sister Emma Ceska has had the record of fraternal services documented, which will be available to be picked up at a later date with which you will be able to keep up with your fraternal services you have done.

Get well cards were sent to Trish Holder, Dorothy Rejcek and Frank Miller. Sympathy cards were sent to Mrs. Ray Rochester, Mrs. Frank Kofnovec, Mr. Jerry Swank, Mr. Henry West and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Langlotz.

Youth Leader Gladys Yates reported there were 14 members present at the youth meeting. She read the names of winners to the State YAD. Their Scrapbook won second place. The youth meeting will be held on August 18. Youths have donated in memory of Edward Langlotz to the Libbie Parma Trust Fund.

Sister Libbie Parma gave a report on the Trust Fund. She received donations in memory of Edith Wear, Edward Langlotz and Angeline West from Sister Bonnie Pruitt; also for Sister Angeline West from Mr. and Mrs. Ray Orsag, SPJST, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Parma and Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Mueller. Sister Parma read a thank you note from Janice • and Donna Stanislay.

The reunion which was planned for the ex - youth members, youth leaders and assistants was postponed until a later date.

The Auditing Committee chairman reported that all books were in good shape. Brother George Shilling, bookkeeper, gave the quarterly report.

A Resolution of Sympathy was read for our departed members, Sister Marie White and Sister Angeline West.

Brother George Pauling donated the convention picture to the hall and Brother Frank Parma will frame it; Brother Parma also made some wood slots for the numbers to go above the tables.

Sister Darlene Engelke reported on the convention and each delegate had a report. She reported that Brother Silas Smith and Brother Otto Hanus were honored. There will be a memorial at the hall for both of them.

New members accepted were Kristie L. Heussner, Kristin L. Palms, Donnie Berger and one transfer, Susan Trickette. We welcome you to our lodge and hope you all will attend our activities whenever you can.

Door prize was won by Brother Albert Jaska.

This is a notice for members of Lodge No. 79, that the date of August meeting has been changed to the third Wednesday night, August 17 at the usual place, Sokol Hall, 5502 Kostoryz Road. The change is because Sokol Corpus Christi has their annual meeting on the second Wednesday.

There will be a covered dish supper, starting at 7:30 p.m., followed by a brief meeting and a social for members, families and guests. Each

Dear Members: Our meeting last Monday had several regulars absent (vacationing no doubt).

Entertainment report by President Petr was given on all dances as well as rentals.

The Czech Culture meets on July 25th.

Sunshine Committee report revealed that get well cards were sent to Sisters Wanda Kopecky and Jackie Kenney and Brothers Bill Vita, Alvin Hamusek and Dr. Edward Daly. Sympathy cards were sent to Brothers James Conner, George Slama, Dr. Kerry Good and Sister Rose Scott.

Ball Club report by Brother Jarma -The club was in City Playoffs winning first game and was eliminated after loosing second game.

House Committee -- Sister Wanda Petr reported in the absence of Brother Salac; windows were bricked for safety and a light was put up in the back.

Thanks to Brother Sid and Sister Justine Pokladnik for donating the mercury light.

Lodge Coordinator Schulz discussed membership cards being printed.

I write with a great deal of gratitude to all of our members who so graciously write to me or call me on the phone.

I had a day full of blessings the other day; first Glenn Hanka, one of Ernie's nephews asked me out to a Chinese dinner, also his little 9 - year - old girl went with us, and the same eve, my precious niece came over with a pot of seafood gumbo, add a sack of boiled crabs. They, Larry, Betty Gayle Green, Kristi and John had been to Rockport for 5 days. It was the best seafood gumbo I've eaten since my sister, Talita died. Her daughter informed me it was her mother's recipe. All of us here on the Gulf need that recipe.

Tillie Helmcamp told me about her sister, Alice, and husband„ Andw (Andy) Braikovich. They are driving a new Olds and they were going to a "Hobo" party, and, dressed as such,

Tillie said she warned them about not letting police see tham as "Hobos", they just don't drive a car like that.

Anyway, Alice got first prize for her costume and so did Andy.

I talked to Louis Hanus and he said he's doing fine and able to do most anything he wishes to do. He is really missed at the lodge, since it's not the same place without him, and he has refrained from yardwork in this intense heat Arnold Cmajdalka's brother, Lad Cmajdalka from Fayetteville, was here in Houston for back surgery a month ago and Arnold visited with him in Fayetteville and he's doing great, already drives his car and plays Bingo in nearby towns.

YAD took place at Lodge 88 Sunday, July 17th. Annie Vala with her kitchen help served a good meal.

The program started at 1 p.m. with Jerry Poston as MC who did a superb job.

Rosalee and Tim Kostom are on an extended trip to Europe. Rosalee has relatives in Prague, Czechoslovakia and, as a rule, visits them every year or two.

I was told that Tommy and Gladys Lostak are back from Greece.

Remember their son, Lonnie Lostak, told us about their trip to Greece at the convention. It seems like Gladys is doing very well. May God be with her and the family at all times, and do include this family in your prayers.

This seems like a long way off, but I'm going to give all the members in District V an early notice. We will meet at Lodge 65 at the American Legion Hall in Crosby on September 18th.

This will be Family Day. Do mark your calendars now, and ask the different lodges to participate. Our President Tillie Helmcamp always has a good program arranged, but we ALL need to help to make it a success, instead of a day wasted.

It is good to have Louis back after his long absence due to his accident at his place of work.

Communication consisted of a letter from the Supreme Lodge listing approved schools for the training of liquor sellers.

Reporting on the convention in June at Temple were our delegates, Louis and Mydell Grochoske. Yours truly attended, too, and found it to be very interesting and most informative.

Members voted that the kitchen be closed as of August 1 and the popcorn machine be moved into the bar. We will no longer sell hamburgers and sandwiches. If any member wants to lease it, maybe something can be worked out to keep it open.

Remember that our Board of Trustees meeting and regular Lodge 180 meeting are the same night, August 4; for trustees meeting, 6:30 p.m. and regular lodge meeting, 7:30 p.m.

SPJST Library, Archives, Museum July 27, 1988 On July 26 the Bell Fine Arts Association of Belton had a presentation by Thelma Bartosh, curator of the SPJST Museum and Library, on arts contributed by the Czechs. Ms. Bartosh had, on display, some of the artifacts depicting the arts of the Czechs: wood carvings, needlework, crystal, dolls with costumes (krojs) of different regions and posters by Alfons Mucha. She told of the musical contributions by Dvorak, Smetana, plus the Texas Czech (Bohemian) bands, the sculpture of Albin Polasek, the rich religious history of the Czech Moravians, the wish of the present day Czech descendants to preserve the language, customs and culture of their ancestors with their values of home, family and dignity in labor.

Featured were a porcelain ginger vase, a painted rose porcelain plate, a painted ceramic egg and an oil painting by the Temple artist, Mrs. Dorothy Chervenka, a member of the Temple Porcelain Art Guild. Mrs. Chervenka, who was a delegate to the XXV SPJST Convention, had served as recording secretary and reporter for 22 years of Lodge No. 87, Temple. She is also an active member of the Tanglefoot Texas Extension Homemakers Association, having served as secretary and vice president of the Texas Extension Homemakers Association Bell County Council.

Dear Members and Friends: Our July 12th meeting was well attended. President Dona Hubenak welcomed Agnes Merlick after being absent for some time. We were all glad to see her back.

Reports by Treasurer Evelyn Spacek and Secretary Clara Marchioni were given and Clara read thank you cards from Nancy Paprskar and Joe Juran.

Sunshine Chairman Lillie McMillen reported get well cards were sent to Elizabeth Gregory and Flora Koci. We all wish all who are on the sick list a speedy recovery.

Clara Cohen gave a report on activities planned for the October 8th 50 - year celebration of Lodge No. 92 Building. It will be a fun - day for all, so mark your calendar now so you don't plan anything else on that date.

The Ladies' Circle voted to donate $700 to the Lodge 92 Building Fund.

The door prize was won by Julia Dueser. The door prize for August will be donated by Inez Krivanek.

Hostesses for August will be Jo Prochaska, Minnie Ruzicka, Catherine Kosarek and Rose Jaworski.

"Happy Birthday" was sung to all who celebrated birthdays in June and July and they were (for June), Frances Blake, Betty Billington, Helen Kubala, Nancy Paprskar, Eleanor Svacek, Christine Zich and Tillie Gillis and (for July), Clara Marchioni and Billye Starr.

Sewing Circle Report

Is it hot enough for you? Whether there is a drought or a flood, we have to accept whatever is dealt us, whether we like it or not. We should be thankful that, so far, we have not had a repeat of the 1980 heat wave. Our attendance has been off some. It averaged about 24 members, plus visitors each meeting.

Our meetings were held May 12th, June 9th and July 7th. President Sadie Kubin presided at the May and June meetings. In the absence of President Sadie Kubin and Vice President Georgia Zabojnik, Secretary Georgia Tupy presided at the July meeting.

This was the first time that Sister Tupy presided. She did a good job. The Pledge of Allegiance was repeated at each meeting.

A moment of silence was observed in memory of Sister Vlasta Parma and Brothers Joe Janicek, David Gurecky, Jack Childress and Wesley Trojacek.

Since our last meeting, Sister Anne Mullins' son passed away. Our sincere sympathy is extended to the bereaved families.

The secretary and treasurer gave their reports at all the meetings and they were approved as read.

Sunshine Stacie Hejny sent get well cards to Sisters Leona Jurica, Agnes Houdek and Millie Vytopil. She sent sympathy cards to Sisters Ludie Nesuda, Rose Ann Parma, Vojteska Janicek, Bertha Podhrasky, Ella Zmolek and Annie Trojacek.

On the sick list are Millie Vytopil, who had surgery and is now making her home with daughter and son - in law Emilie and Frank Slovak in Houston and Sister Betty Marusak had been ill for quite some time and had missed several meetings. It was good to see her at our July meeting. We have been missing Sister Leona Jurica who is not feeling too well. My husband, Tom, spent a few days in the hospital.

Each one is wished a speedy recovery.

Our Circle sent flbwers to the funeral service for Sister Vlasta Parma. The family of Sister Vlasta Parma thanked our Circle for the flowers. Sister Agnes Houdek thanked our Circle for the get well card and money gift. Sisters Ludie Nesuda, Bertha Podhrasky, Vojteska Janicek and Ella Zmolek thanked the Circle for the sympathy cards.

A donation was given to Sokol from our Polka Festival proceeds. A thank you was received from Sokol for the donation. Sister Mary Patak gave a donation in memory of Sister Mary Bouska.

Congratulations to Alba Holden, who was the lucky winner of the Polka Festival quilt. Sister Mildred Trojacek's quilt was quilted in May; Sister Mary Polasek's in June; and Sister Hattie Lekar's in July.

"Happy Birthday" was sung each month to the birthday sisters. Sister Polasek brought the door prize in May and Sister Pavelka in July.

At our May meeting, Sister Pavelka read an interesting article from one of Dallas' daily newspapers; Sister Wisniewski told a story about a dollar bill; and Sister Polasek told a story about a hundred - dollar bill.

The third annual Tupy reunion was held June 4th at the Sokol Hall in Ennis. There were 44 present and 10 guests. It will be held at the Sokol in Ennis next year.

Sister Roberts spent a weekend in June with daughter, Harriet in Houston. Husband, Tom was well taken care of. Thanks to my sister,

Mary Sebestik and my regular help.

Sisters Mary Sebestik and Georgia Tupy attended the Brethren Church Christian Sisters Convention, which was held at the Wesley Brethren Church in Brenham, Texas. Joe and Louise Pilarski of South Bend, Indiana visited with Sister Libbie Wisniewski. Vlasta Getchell of. Utica, Michigan visited her sisters, Rose Bednar and Mildred Trojacek and family. Olga Kucera of Lufkin, Texas visited her cousin, Hattie Moucka.

Congratulations to Richard and Rhonda Roberts who were married June 25th in Fort Worth. Richard is the son of Tommy and Pamela Roberts and grandson of Sister Alice and Tom Roberts.

Oops, I almost forgot to name our visitors for the past three months.

They were Leslie Vrla, Joe Houdek, Frank Holley, Bob Zvolanek, Ernest Huff, Vlasta Getchell, Julie Fowler and Michael Fowler. This hot weather has kept some of our regular guests from attending our meetings. Keep cool! See you at our August 11th meeting.

Festival

SEPTEMBER 10, 1988 Early in the state's history a hearty band of Czecholsovakian immigrants arrived in Central Texas to colonize what was to become Burleson County, bringing their own order and traditions to the area. A powerful sense of culture continues and for the last three years has drawn to a focus at the Kolache Festival in Caldwell.

Kolache are small wedding pastries made with fruit or meat toppings and fillings and when fresh and hot they are about the best thing a person can wrap a lip around. Along with spicy sausages and pasta dishes such as goulash, everything adds up to an authentic ethnic display of Czech cooking.

The Kolache Festival, scheduled for Saturday, September 10 from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. will cover the Square in Downtown Caldwell and spill over into the adjoining streets and businesses.

Bakers have competed for three years to win the coveted title of Grand Champion Kolache Baker of Burleson County. By statewide demand, the bake show will open three categories -a County Champion, a State Champion and a Professional Champion! The Kolache Bake Off competition, which will be held in downtown Caldwell, will feature celebrity judges who are coming to cast their votes for the absolutely best kolache.

The day long Kolache Festival will feature continuous entertainment, the Dallas Czech Concert Orchestra directed by Cyrill Pokladnik, three museums including the SPJST Mini Museum of Temple, Texas by museum curator Thelma Bartosh, Quilt Show and Sale, and Antique Automobile Show and display of classic Model - T motorcars, Art Show and a special exhibit by the Brazos Valley Model Railroad Club. Demonstrations by artisians and craftsmen as well as Czech dancers and gymnasts will continue during the day. Arts, Crafts and Antiques will abound on the Square. Every building and business in downtown Caldwell is invited to participate.

Part of the European heritage that the Czechs brought and maintained was fine craftsmanship in furniture making and home arts, and a museum

in the Burleson County Courthouse will feature examples, of remarkably fine work.

Look for a unique display featuring the famous Czech craft of egg decorating using hand - painting and wax - etching to achieve an outstanding complexity of design.

Artists will demonstrate these techniques, and an exhibit of many old and valuable examples will be on display. This is the original art form begun in wax and paint that was the ultimate inspiration for the famous Faberge collection of jeweled and enameled eggs made for the Russian royal family. Demonstrations also planned are corn grinding, basket weaving, early blacksmith skills, pottery, honey production, and much more!

Food, music and customs reign during the festival and give the visitor a chance to enjoy one of the state's most cohesive ethnic traditions. Czech it out! Czech the Kolache Festival!

Of Schulenburg Announces Czech Comedy Performance September 18th Backstage

Backstage is sponsoring a Czech comedy, Nevinna na hrade ("Virgin in the Castle") on Sunday, September 18 at the Schulenburg Civic Center at 2 p.m. Doors will open at 1 'p.m.

Admission will be $3.50 per person and advance tickets are $3 per person.

Registration for the 1988 fall semester of classes in the study of the Czech language will begin on Saturday, August 27 and continue during the following two weeks to Saturday, September 10th.

Registration and classes will be held at the Westchester Education Center, Spring Branch, 901 Yorkchester, Houston, Texas 77079.

The Beginners' Class, Czech I will meet on Tuesday evenings starting September 13 and the Advance Class, Czech II will meet on Thursday evenings, starting September 15th.

All class hours in these 12 - week courses will be from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. each evening. Tuition for each course is $50 plus $5 registration fee.

From The District Youth Counselors District I Youth Achievement Day Dear Readers: District I will be holding their annual YAD on August 7, 1988. This event will be hosted by Lodge No. 13, Dime Box. Registration will begin at 10:30 a.m. and last until 11:30 a.m. A spaghetti lunch will be served beginning at 11 a.m. The meal will include spaghetti, green beans, hot rolls, tea and dessert. The price of the meal will be $3.50 for adult plates and $2.50 for a child's plate. The program will begin at 12:30 p.m. with a call to order. Competition will begin shortly thereafter.

Individual and Group Talent will be followed by a 20 - minute break.

Royalty Competition will then follow.

I feel we will be finished with competition and crowning of our 1988 Royalty by 5:30 p.m. or soon after. I have received YAD cards and, from viewing them, it looks like we are in for a full day of entertainment.

I am looking forward to seeing each of you at our YAD. It will prove to be a day of fun and excitement not only for the participants but for all in attendance.

District Dear Vestnik Readers, The District V YAD was held Sunday, July 17, 1988 at Lodge 88.

The two youth clubs participating were Lodge 88 and Lodge 142.

The day began with the registering of crafts from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.; then, a meal of ham, potato salad, beans and dessert was served.

Next, everyone watched Talent; from Lodge 88 they were Juniors -Kristy Sokol, 1st; Jamie Meyer, 2nd; Paul Pflughaupt, 3rd; Matthew Mabry, 4th; Lindsey Michalak, 5th.

Teens -- Crystal Wallace, 1st; Darlene Migl, 2nd; Marlene Migl, 3rd; Tommie Wallace, 4th; Karl Pflughaupt, 5th.

The overall winners in District V were: Amanda Hermis (Junior) and Crystal Wallace (Teen).

Following the announcement of the Top Point winners, all Craft and Talent winners were announced. The numerous Craft winners are too numerous for me to mention, but in Talent the winners were in 6 - 9: John Burl., 1st; 10 - 12: Sarah Anthony, 1st; Cindy Groendes, 2nd; Kevin Faske, 3rd; 13 - 14: Wesley Faske, 1st.

Next, it was time for the long awaited Royalty Competition. Queen contestants were Michelle Linney of Lodge 88 and Duchess Amanda Hermis of Lodge 142; Crystal Wallace (88), Duchess Jamie Meyer (88). The King contestants were Paul Groendes of Lodge 88 and Duke Jason Michalak of Lodge 88; Keith Kieschnick (142) and Duke Nicholas Havermann (88).

The winners in the Royalty Competition were Queen Crystal Wallace and Duchess Jamie Meyer; and King Keith Kieschnick and Duke Nicholas Havermann.

After a wonderful day full of excitement, everyone lined up to get

their pictures taken. There were definitely a lot of winners this year, and I don't think there is anyone who didn't go home without something; yet, one of the things that made it such a wonderful day was getting to see SYD Claudette Reese and meeting her wonderful family (her husband, and children, Jason, Michelle, Melinda and Jennifer).

It was a great District V YAD, and I can really look forward to State YAD in Temple on August 21, 1988.

Dear Readers: On June 12, 1988, the New Tabor SPJST Youth Club held its annual appreciation banquet. Over 85 people were in attendance. A catered meal was served to all present. Perfect Attendance Awards were presented to thirteen youth members. Those receiving perfect attendance for the 1987 - 88 youth year were Mindy and Holly Suehs, Mica and Marshall Petty, Chantel, Crystal, Cheryl and Cindy Sebesta, Kristen and Cheryl Cannon, Bobbi Joe Ihlenfeldt and Lana and Dana Urbanovsky.

Certificates for participating in the T shirt design contest were given to Holly and Mindy Suehs, Lana and Dana Urbanovsky and John Beasley.

Special guests attending the banquet were Supreme Lodge President Howard Leshikar and family, State Youth Director Claudette Reese and family, District I Director Andrew Vavra and wife, Lola and our mother lodge officers. Lodge 88 Hosts District V YAD Dear Brothers and Sisters, On Sunday, July 17, District V held their annual Youth Achievement Day at Lodge 88, Houston. It was a day enjoyable for all who came out to see the youth participate. The day began at 10 a.m. when youth arrived to register their Craft and Talent entries.

From 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., a meal. consisting of baked ham, potato salad and baked beans was served. During the meal, youth cleaned tables and sponsored a pastry booth; at 12:30 p.m., Craft judging began, and at 1 p.m. everyone gathered in the ballroom to watch the Talent program.

The program began with the prewntation of colors. Lodge 88 President Jerry Ermis and District V officers then welcomed those who came to enjoy the day. DYC Marie Stayton also introduced State Youth Director Claudette Reese and the Talent Competition ended. Top Point winners of Lodges 88 and 142 were announced plus the District Point winners. Afterwards, the Youth Leaders were introduced. Present were Lodge 88 Youth Leader Barbara Linney, Assistant YL Mary Lou Groendes, Lodge 142 Youth Leader Elizabeth Hermis, and Assistant DYC Nancy Steubing. Door prizes were then given.

After a short break, Craft and Talent awards were announced. Then.

Royalty Competition began.

Contestants for Queen were Michelle Linney with Duchess Amanda Hermis and Crystal Wallace with Duchess Jamie Meyer. There were also two contestants for King -- Paul Groendes with Duke Jason Michalak and Keith Kieschnick with Duke Nicholas Havermann. After the speeches, the winners were announced. Everyone had fun swimming, canoeing, hiking and playing other games. We made puff paint and T shirts for a craft project.

Before we left camp, we had a balloon lift for the closing ceremony.

40 Youth Club

Dear Readers, The El Campo - Hillje Lodge 40 youth held its monthly meeting on July 7th. Vice President Darren Dybala called the meeting to order.

Kim Kacal gave a report on camp and Mrs. Anita Roye asked each person their opinion on camp.

Members explained their July project about the Fourth of July. Kim Kacal, for her project, prepared a wordsearch and a crossword puzzle.

Everybody had a fun - time doing these. Jody Krpec gave a report on projects he made in Bible class. He showed everyone the rosary he made and passed out papers on showing how to pray the rosary.

The refreshments were served by Mrs. Krpec and Mrs. Karasek had a special treat of watermelon for us.

88 ,YC To Attend Activities

Dear Brothers and Sisters: The Lodge 88 Houston Youth Club has many activities to look forward to, some of which will include our car wash and state YAD in Temple, Texas.

The Youth Club will have a car wash on Saturday, August 6, in the parking lot of LOdge 88 at 1435 Beall Street.

Everyone is welcomed to come and get their cars, trucks and vans cleaned while waiting in the cool air conditioned lodge building. The car wash will begin at 11 a.m. and last until all cars are washed. Money raised from this fund - raiser will be used for an important function later on next year. Please come and support the youth of SPJST Lodge No. 88.

The August Social and Fraternal Activity will be decided upon at the Youth Club's August 3rd meeting.

We will be having two bake sales in August; the first one will be on Thursday, August 11 and the second will be on Thursday, August 18th.

Each activity will begin at 7 p.m. along with the lodge's weekly Bingo games.

During Bingo, youth will be going to each table in the Chandelier Ballroom to collect the empty aluminum cans for the Youth Club's treasury.

On Sunday, August 21, Lodge 88 Youth Club, along with clubs in District V, will be attending State Youth Achievement Day. We are planning for a bus to take all participants to the Convention Center.

Expression Of Sympathy We, the members of Lodge Hveida Mrut No. 33, Bleiblerville wish to extend our deepest sympathy to the families of our departed lodge sister FREEDA SAUNDERS, who passed away March. 15, 1988 at the age of 68 in the Rosewood General Hospital of Houston.

Sister Saunders was born November 29, 1919 to Frank and Nellie (Bell) Harrison in Arkansas.

Funeral services were held March 18. Sister Saunders was laid to rest in the Brookside Memorial Park

1987". He will be sorely missed by his lodge members and fellow workers. He was also a member of the Dime Box Rodeo Association.

Survivors include his wife, Lee Allen Flippin of Dime Box; two sons, Larry Wade Flippin of Taylor and Frankie Lee Flippin of Dime Box; daughters, Donna Flippin Haliburton of Austin and Sue Allen Flippin of Dime Box; one brother, Aaron Flippin of Caldwell; five sisters, Maude Kettler of Burton, Alma Daniels of Baytown, Nora Kruger of Bryan, Willie Lee Wiederhold of Caldwell and Iris McCarty of West Columbia; and five grandchildren.

Serving as pallbearers were James Beard, Gary Flippin, Wayne Jones, Wayne Kettler, Ricky Korth and Billy Wayne Kruger.

Honorary pallbearers included J.D. Cowns, Paul Hoover, Preston Kiel, Donnie Lietko, Walter Marburger, Clinton Opperman, Rodny Opperman, Clyde Perry, Frank Riske, Russell Spacek, Robert Spacek and Rinney Spacek.

CLAUDE A. FLIPPIN, who died Sunday, June 19, 1988 in Humana Hospital in Bryan, Texas at the age of 67 years, 2 months and 18 days.

Brother Flippin was born April 1, 1921 to Reuben and Janie Cowen Flippin. He grew up in Burleson County in the Birdsong community.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army on October 27, 1942 at Fort Sam Houston. He served with the 12th Medical Depot Company in World War II. He served overseas in the Eastern Theater and was a Technical Sergeant. He was discharged November 28, 1945.

Brother Claude A. Flippin was united in marriage to Miss Lee Ellen Korth on May 3, 1958 in Houston.

Claude was a lifelong rancher, loved outdoor sports and his hobbies included hunting, had love for people, never met a stranger and if he did they would be friends before leaving each other and he was always willing to help his fellow man and was always concerned about those around him.

Funeral services for Brother Claude A. Flippin of Route 1, Dime Box, were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Dime Box with the Rev. Charles Ager and Father Isidore Rozycki officiating. Interment was in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Dime Box. Prayer services were held at 7 p.m.

Tuesday in Phillips and Luckey Chapel in Caldwell.

Brother Claude was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and was very active for the SPJST members of Lodge No. 13 where he served as president for a number of years until the lodge building was paid off and dedicated. While Brother Claude served as president in the old and new lodge buildings, he never had any opposition during his long term of office and he is also remembered for working without compensation for his lodge. Brother Frey was born March 1, 1941 in Ballinger, Texas. He married Barbara Halfmann on July 23, 1966 in Olfen and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Texas Cattle Feeders Association, and owner of Rowena Pellet Mills.

Rosary was recited Monday at Rains - Seale Funeral Home Chapel and services were Tuesday at St. Boniface Catholic Church with Father Sam Homsey officiating. Burial was in St. Boniface Cemetery.

He was employed as a warehouse foreman at Lack's Furniture Warehouse, and was active in farming and ranching in Lavaca County. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, a member of Post 4146 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m.

Monday, March 28 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Victoria with the Rev. Donald Ruppert officiating.

Burial followed in Kilgore Cemetery with the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4146 conducting graveside services. Rosary was recited at 7 p.m.

Sunday, March 27 at Rosewood Funeral Chapel in Victoria.

Besides his mother, Mr. Neuvar is survived by his wife, Judy Baecker Neuvar of Victoria; a daughter, Dena Farris of Victoria; three sons, Kent Neuvar of Lufkin, Kyle and Todd Neuvar of Victoria; a brother, Erwin Neuvar of Minnesota and three grandchildren.

Mrs. Alice Jaresh passed away on May 25, 1988 at the Claystone Manor Nursing Home, after a long illness.

Sister Jaresh was born in Ennis on November 11, 1906 to George and Elizabeth Brown Kouba. She was a resident of Ennis at the time of her death.

She married Willie Jaresh, of Ennis, on September 21, 1924. She was a member of SPJST Lodge No. 5, Tioga for over 50 years.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Charlie L. (Viola) Dlabaj of Ennis; five grandchildren, Sandra Hartman of Bardwell, Bobby Gene Dlabaj of Palmer, Judy Patton, Ronald Charles Dlabaj and Debra Ann Escobar, all of Ennis; one half - sister, Mrs. Earl D. Parker, also of Ennis.

Sister Jaresh was preceded in death by her husband Willie Jaresh on November 15, 1981; her son, Billie Dean Jaresh in 1955 and a daughter, Shirley Ann Jaresh in 1960.

Brother Martinek was born April 25, 1915 to Frank Will and Annie Knize Martinek, Sr. On January 20, 1937, he was married to Barbara Alice Novy in Ennis. He was a lifelong resident of Ennis and a member of St. John's Catholic Church, SPJST Lodge No. 25, and the RVOS. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Martinek; four daughters, Miss Joan Martinek of Ennis, Mrs. Thomas (Dianna) Lawty of Dallas, Mrs. Lee (Jerilyn) Benson of Dallas and Mrs. Doyle (Judy) Howard of Duncanville; one brother, Joe Martinek of Ennis; three sisters, Mrs. Annie Pavlacka, Mrs. Emilie Novy of Ennis and Mrs. Helen Laznovsky of Dallas; five grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Brother McMillan was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Angleton and was a veteran of World War II. He was a 20 - year employee of Southern Pacific Railroad and a retired master plumber. He was a member of Pipefitters and Plumbers Local No. 211, The Angleton American Post No. 241, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 5237, Angleton Masonic Lodge No. 289 AF&AM, and the Scottish Rite bodies of Galveston.

Besides his wife, Emma G. McMillan, he is survived by two brothers, John McMillan of Ft. Worth, and Bill McMillan of Dallas.

Pallbearers were members of Angleton Masonic Lodge No. 829 AF&AM. Honorary pallbearers were Michael Fuchs, Joseph Williams and McMillan nephews.

Funeral services were in the Palms Chapel of Roses in Angleton at 3 p.m. on Monday, May 30 with the Reverend Ed Waddill officiating.

Brother Kuchar was born at Midfield in Matagorda County on April 16, 1910 and before moving to Kerrville, he lived in Danbury for many years. He was married to Dorothy Manross on March 1, 1962.

He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy. He belonged to the New Life Fellowship, the Full Gospel Business Men's Association, and was a member of the Gideon Society. He dealt in real estate and was actively involved in the surplus food distribution program.

Besides his wife, survivors are two brothers, Albert Kuchar and August Kuchar, both of Danbury; two sisters, Anne Whitley of Angleton and Alma Wibye of Sacramento, California; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m.

Saturday, June 4 at the Kerrville Funeral Home with David Billeiter officiating. Interment fellowed at the Garden of Memories in Kerrville.
