Mrs. A.N. Strauss, nee Anna J. Skrla, was born in Wesley (Washington County), Texas on 1 May 1892 to Stephan and Rozina Skrla.
She came to Jackson County with her parents, brothers and sisters when she was in her early twenties and settled on a farm south of Ganado. In 1922 Anna married Albert N. Strauss and has resided in city of Ganado since 1925. She has three children, Mrs. R.E. (Mary Ann) Sebolt, Frances Strauss and Stephan N. Strauss, LTC (retired). She also has eight grandchildren, and four great - grandchildren. Her family consisted of two sisters and four brothers; only one sister, Mrs. Frank Jaap of Ganado, is living. Sister A.N. Strauss joined SPJST Lodge No. 138 on June 13, 1918 at the age of 20; her sister, Mrs. Alvina Jaap, is also a member of Lodge No. 138. An openhouse in her honor was held at her home. Many friends dropped by to have cake and coffee with "Mrs. Anna," and extended best wishes on her 96th birthday. (Article and photo submitted by Sister Sophie Dybala of Lodge No. 138, Ganado.)
