The new State Royal Court, composed of King Joe Prachyl, of Dallas Lodge No. 84; Queen Kelly Korenek, of Taiton Lodge No. 30; Duke Carol Ondrusek, of Dallas; and Duchess Kristi Korenek, of Taiton, were congratulated as were the other entrants. Official pictures were taken after the coronation ceremonies, and as soon as we receive them, they will appear in the Vestnik.

We wish to mention that Dukes and Duchesses Paul Ihdelfeldt from Lodge No. 9, District I; Jason Motal from Lodge No. 32, District VI; Kathy Thun from Lodge No. 35, District III; and Dawn Hipsher from Lodge No. 187, District II also became second and first runners-up in the results.

These twenty-four young people, who represented their lodges on their own merits, from lodges: Dallas, Elk, Floresville, Houston, Lovelady, Round Rock, Snook, Taiton and Victoria, certainly are an asset to today's youth. Our hats off to all of them and may they continue to achieve their set goals in life.

The president or secretary of each lodge will be asked to give a short report on their lodge activities for the past year. By exchanging these activities with one another, we may help some lodges become more active. For example: How often does your lodge have meetings? Does your lodge furnish refreshments after the meetings? Do you have an active youth club? How does your lodge make money?

These are only a few ideas. I am sure some of you have many activities; let's share them.

Meeting For Lodge No. 87 Special

Dear Members and Readers: SPJST Lodge No. 87, Temple held their regular meeting Friday evening, September 11 at 7 p.m. with President Vlasta Jez presiding.

Flagbearer Jerry Valchar led the lodge in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance; the lodge remained standing in silent tribute to deceased members.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved as read.

A letter from Jerry Mikulas concerning the refund checks was read to the lodge for correspondence.

Lodge officers gave their reports.

Fort Worth. Lodge No. 154 Dear Members and Friends: My, where does this time go to?

It's time again to remind you of our meeting Sunday, October 11.

We had quite a bit of excitement in the middle of our spaghetti dinner yesterday; Sister Wanda Mason gave birth to twins, Mark Brandon, 6 lbs., 15 1/2 ozs.; Brandi Michelle, 5 lbs., 10 ozs. Congratulations to the proud father, Brother Jim Mason, who also is a twin; the proud grandmother is Sister Jeanie Mason.

Our dinner was well-attended and enjoyed by all. Sister Mary Renfro did it again. A special thanks to the sisters for the delicious pastries and all who helped in the big clean-up.

Brother and Sister Don and Rosie Steinman enjoyed their 10-day vacation; they enjoyed Washington, D.C. and especially Atlantic City, New Jersey where they had some good luck at the Casinos.

Brother Billy and Sister Carol Sanders had a wonderful full 10 days in Hawaii and Brother Jerry and Sister Donna Parker had an enjoyable week in Washington, D.C. We extend our congratulations to Sister Rebecca Tomanek who was wed to Paul Dwayne Smith, September 19 in University Catholic Community Wesley Foundation, in Arlington by the Rev. Dave Wallace of St. Philip's Catholic Church.

Rebecca is the daughter of Brother Victor J. Tomanek of Arlington and the late Elizabeth Tomanek. Paul is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Alonzo Smith of Canyon Lake. Mari Elizabeth Tomanek and Ting-AChen were their honor attendants.

Rebecca is a student at the University of Texas at Arlington and Paul graduated from St. Mary's University in San Antonio. They will live in Arlington. May you have a long and happy life together. Rebecca is a lifelong member of our lodge.

We extend our sincere sympathy to all of the family loved ones of Johnny Kratky who died suddenly yesterday (Monday) following a heart attack.

Sister Janee Milan Wright from Phoenix, Arizona is spending a few days in Fort Worth with her mother, Anna Jo Milan and father, Brother Frankie Milan and seeing all the family.

Quite a few of our members have this virus or what have you that is going around. We hope you all get well soon.

We enjoyed seeing Sister Esta Belle Hubenak of Lodge No. 92 yesterday after spending some time in the hospital after foot surgery.

Dear Members and Friends: Here we are to let you all know about our covered dish dinner which was a success and a very wellattended social by brothers, sisters, relatives and friends from far and near. We can't thank everyone enough from the bottom of our hearts who attended the covered

dish dinner and dance which was free afterwards. Everyone had a great time wishing th0 occasion lasted until 3 in the morning like the old country times; those were the good old days! We are thanking all of you again for your participation and don't foiget to come again to whatever is happening at Lodge No. 172 in our Metropolitan City of Pasadena, Texas at our lodge home named Rozkvet. We are graciously inviting each of you.

President Victor Peter welcomed the gathering to the social dinner and Sister Tinnie Coffman, secretary-treasurer led us in a prayer.

Our tables at the covered dish dinner were so full of goodies that some goodies were almost hanging off the tables. I had to watch my calories; oh, so good! Those of you who weren't present missed a lot.

Next time mark your calendar and don't miss such a wonderful time.

It's only one time a year so next time be sure to come and surely invite your relatives and friends. All of us had the grandest time.

Our dearly beloved sisters of the lodge; namely, Lillia Mae Peter, Vli.sta Machann and Loraine Wylie were inviting friends to come to their tables and look over our lodges' founders' booklets and inviting them to join a fast-growing SPJST Fraternal Organization throughout Texas; most of all, of course, a sister Lodge No. 172 in Pasadena. Henry Repka is the leader of the band and they put out loveable dancing music to please you.

All our selected orchestras for the rest of the year 1981 are well-known throughout the state.

For our dance October 31 we will have Lee Roy Matocha, so all you enjoyable dancers call for your reservations ahead of time, especially to select your tables that you like best, etc. Our invitations are always extended to all of you from far and near places to Lodge No. 172 for your weekend entertainment. We are glad to see you and extend welcome and good hospitality to all of you.

The next meeting will be held October 14, so don't miss it please read your Vestnik and you will be glad that you did Our meetings are important to everyone and I am glad that our meetings are pretty wellattended, but still more of our members could attend because Lodge No. 172 is your lodge and we do handle very important matters.

Hallettsville Lodge No. 4 Dear Members: Our lodge met Sunday, September 20, 1981 at the Grant Building with President Frank Zabransky presiding. Melissa Holy and Janell Chudej led 'the members in the Pledge to the American Flag.

Resolutions of sympathy were read for our departed members, Brothers Julius Holub, Coy E. Brooks and Adolph Holy.

Corresponding Secretary Erwin Holy read the minutes from the July and August meetings. Correspondence followed.

Co-Youth Leader Evelyn Holy reported on the youth club activities. Congratulations to Melissa Holy of our lodge for placing third in Home Arts at the State YAD Treasurer Helen Zabransky gave her report.

President Zabransky thanked the committee he appointed and everyone else for the wonderful job they did at Family Day. The members voted to change our meeting date to October 18, the third Stinday of October, instead of the usual second Sunday due to the District VI meeting in Taiton, October 11.

Financial Secretary Hilmer Galetka reported refund checks were given out and meeting then adjourned. Refreshments and lunch were served.

August birthdays honored were: Laurie Chudej, Patsy Zabransky, Gary Chudej, Erwin Holy and Otto Holy. September birthday celebrants were: Alvin Mikush, Hilmer and Gaye Galetka.

No. 88 Brief News

Lodge

The awaited dance with the wonderful music of Al Pierson the Big Band USA in the Chandelier Ballroom was a complete sellout and everyone present had a marvelous time. Everyone is looking forward to 1982 when Al Pierson will be with us and perform for our guests. It was gratifying to see so many of our members join the great dance; as usual, there were requests made for birthdays and anniversaries throughout the evening and everyone was happy. My two sons, with their wives attended and it was the first time they had a chance to

hear Al Pierson play. They enjoyed the music so much that they promised to come again anytime he will be here and bring their friends from Beaumont with them. We all are looking forward to the year of 1982.

Saturday, September 26. the Knights of Dixie had a great attendance with happy guests all around, and especially at three tables Nos. 7, 8 and 10 were celebrating John Vasula's birthday with a delicious birthday cake baked by Della Kite and lots of different goodies. A request, by the group, to play for John and his wife, Bessie, "My Happiness"; it is John's favorite song and Bessie and he enjoyed dancing same.

Close to 400 members enjoyed Sunday afternoon, September 27 which was Appreciation Day for the working members. The music was very nice and refreshments were served from 3:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. when the party ended. At 5:30 p.m. a barbecue dinner, with the trimmings, was served buffet-style

by Wehring Catering Service. Edna Wehring, Willie's wife, is home from Sam Houston Hospital and is too weak to go to parties. We missed you!

Abner Dixon had a misfortune mowing his lawn; somehow he slipped off the curb and broke his leg, just like that, and now he is in the Heights Hospital with a cast. I haven't heard how he is getting along and when he will get to go home.

Emma Jarisch has a bad time feeling under the weather. We missed her at the social nights and also at the Sunday party; her husband A. J. was there for a while; get well soon we miss you, Emma!

A party of ten just came back from Las Vegas after five days of fun for all, in one way or another.

About the winnings? That is a question: no one admits defeat or success. Only I, as usual, added few bricks to a new hotel; I didn't want to, but I enjoyed it anyway (what else can I say!) Enjoying the five days were: Tim and Rosalee Kostom, Steve and Estelle Kelly, Henry and Della Olexa, Naomi Spencer, Pearl Hanka, Louis Hanus and my little self. The happy looking, of the group, (as I observed) were Naomi, Tim and Della, my daughter-in-law.

It seems like every other week a group of Lodge 88 members are leaving for the wonder city. The next time we will be heading for Reno.

The Birthday Card Party will be Wednesday, October 7 and the regular Birthday Club meeting will be the following week, October 14.

Come out and enjoy a nice day with a delicious lunch served at noon both times.

District V meeting will be October 11 at Lodge No. 88. A delicious beef dinner will be served starting at 11:30 a.m.; a program until 2 p.m. and, after the meeting, a free dance for everyone present. All of this October 11th!

Received a nice letter from Mary Frances Wahlberg now living in Temple, Texas. I am happy Mary Frances settled down so quickly.

She is not working now and will play housewife for a while and take in her new surroundings. Of course, she misses her mother, Frances Crossman. Mary Frances was our lodge youth leader for several years.

Library, Archives, Museum Report Dear Readers: We are planning to create a real cowboy-western display in our museum and we need a few things to complete this display. WE NEED couple pairs of, spurs, pair of western boots (well-worn), a wellworn cowboy hat, a well-worn lariat, a well-worn cowboy shirt, a pair of well-worn blue jeans, a cowboy belt and a well-worn red bandana handkerchief; if you have any of these items and would like to donate them, please send them to us as soon as you can; better yet, why not bring them down and see the museum for yourself, we will be happy to show you through.

To complete our farm display we need a large buzzard-winged sweep or a solid sweep of at least 24-inch spread, there should be many around old farms. We have finally built up our sweep stock with a pair of handmade handles but need a sweep to put on it.

We had some distinguished visitors this week from Presidio of Monterey, California, Professor and Mrs. Stephen K. Taylor. Professor Taylor teaches Czech and Russian in a military school and Mrs. Taylor is in the nursing service there. They viewed the Museum and Library and declared it fantastic and vowed to come back again to see what progress we have made by next year and we hope they come back again soon; they are two lovely people both born in Czechoslovakia.

Mom, I Want To Join Sokol.

What's Sokol? I asked Laurie that question the day she came home from school wanting to be a gymnast! Well, okay — what's one more meeting and one more uniform if it makes your kids happy? I thought, "I'll just stay on the sidelines and not get involved — I don't have time. I have lots of other things to do. I'm a busy person, you know. I'm not even Czechr All of these thoughts ran through my mind in February, 1980. It's now September, 1981 and I am a Sokol instructor, Sokol officer, and solid Sokol supporter. So, what happened to get me involved? Glad you asked.

But in Sokol, at every business meeting, instructors' meeting, and informal gathering the main question is always, "What's best for the gymnasts?" "How can we earn money for more equipment?" "How can we help the kids who are just beginning in Sokol to have more confidence?" All of these questions remain foremost in the minds of the instructors and the officers and the members who have been so involved. All of this concern for their well-being is what the gymnasts get out of SokoL But let me tell you what I have gotten out of Sokol. I've gotten a real sense of accomplishment and pride. Every time I see a child who started out afraid to do a front roll progress to doing a routine on the uneven bars I know Sokol and being involved is worthwhile. Not because that child is going to be a great athlete, but because he or she has accomplished something through his or her own effort. What else have I gotten? I've gotten a whole new family. I've made some of the best friends ever.

Oh, yes, it's been some work — you can't be responsible for 657 dozen kolaces and not have some work!!

But just about everything worth having costs, in one way or another.

If you're looking for investments, I highly recommend Sokol. For every minute I've invested in Sokol, I've been repaid a hundred times over, and I'm confident you will find the same to be, true of any investment you make in this organization!

REUNIONS Martin-Sabrsula Reunion The 13th annual Martin-Sabrsula reunion will be held Sunday, October 25, 1981 at the Boling Community Center in Boling, Texas beginning at 10 a.m. Each family is asked to bring a picnic-style lunch enough for their family, also bring a serving utensil for each dish. Bread, tea, and coffee, plates, cups, napkins, forks and spoons will be furnished. If you want to play games, cards and/or dominoes, bring them along.

If you (or any member of your family) have special talent and would like to share this with all of the kinfolks, please be prepared to put on a show. Don't forget to bring whatever interesting information you have compiled on the background of the Sabrsula family.

We are all waiting to see what everyone has come up with. This year we plan to have an exceptionally good time. Letter of Thanks Dear Friends: Recently SPJST Lodge No. 47 held a benefit dance for Ginger Klusacek who has been ill for several months. She spent the better part of two months in the hospital, and is now home, but needs constant care twenty-four hours a day.

Music for the dance which was held on September 20 (Ginger's birthday), was provided by J. C. Whatley and the Rhythm Kings and Dennis Dobias' the H.O.T. Czechs. A word of thanks again to both the members of Lodge No. 47 and to the members of these bands.

Assisting in the house party included Mrs. Emma Waligura of Garwood, Sandra and Michelle Huvar also of Garwood; Gail, Kim and Mani Stehno of Umise; and Darla and Eileen Volcik, of Winnie.

The cake was made by Mrs Sandra Huvar; it was a three-tiered embossed cake with ruby and white roses topped with a bridal figurine. .

Dear Members and Readers: Lodge No. 39 has reorganized their Youth Club at the September 13, 1981 Club meeting.

We elected our officers; namely, President-Jennifer Jarvis, Vice President-Brian Faust, SecretaryDiane Luza, Treasurer-Jennifer Kubin, Reporter-Denise Holubec.

Club Committee consist of John Jarvis, Donna Luza, Matt Shaw, Vickie Shaw, Kathi Shaw and Grant Faust.

I am looking forward to seeing more of our young members to take part.

I will see you at the October 13 meeting and remember it's Halloween, so come dressed in costumes.

Dear Members: This is the end of the first quarter of another youth year. The average monthly attendance has decreased steadily from last year. We don't know why; it's probably due to a number of factors. This year's first quarterly average attendance is 473 compared to last year's 527. It is encouraging to know that we have such capable and dedicated youth leaders who are striving to implant worthwhile ideas into the minds and hearts of our younger generation.

Now that school has begun and cooler weather is coming, I hope that each of you boys and girls make an extra effort to attend your youth club meetings. It is very disappointing to find out in May that you need a few more meetings to be eligible to participate in YAD and attend camp.

NOW is the time to plan for next summer! Every youth club member should encourage their friends who are not SPJST members to become a member before October 31 so that they may participate in the coming youth club activities.

The following is a report of the first quarterly disbursement for the youth year. I hope to see an increase this time next year We do not like to see a decrease at any time. It takes every person doing what is expected of them to keep our Youth Department "growing". Each of you are important and when you do not attend your youth club meetings, you are letting other members down. Keep up your participation and encourage each other to attend.

Let's build up the interest with regular attendance at each of the monthly meetings!

LODGE NO. 13, DIME BOX Dear Members, Our last monthly meeting was held Sunday-September 20, 1981.

The meeting was called to order by Vice-President Dana Herzik. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Trudy Krenek. The roll was then called, we had 23 members, 2 visitors, and 5 adults. The secretary's report was given, it was accepted as read. The treasurer's report was then given, it was also accepted as read.

The meeting was then turned over to our youth leader. We talked about going to the rest homes in November and December. We will discuss what day and time at the October meeting. We also talked about having a booth at the Dime Box Homecoming, October 3. Both were seconded.

We talked about having a haunted house and a hayride for Halloween.

We will discuss it in our October meeting.

We will have a movie if it comes in next meeting. The meeting was then adjourned.

LODGE NO.25 YOUTH CLUB TO HAVE GUEST SPEAKER Dear Readers: Our youth club will be hosting Ms. Pam Penningston from Dallas, who will talk about Aloe Vera products and their benefits for cuts, burns, dry skin, arthritis, and as a health drink for digestive troubles. She will also explain the proper skin care and the damaging effects of the sun, wind, and heat on your skin. It will be very beneficial for both the young (so they can learn the proper skin care) and for the adults who may be having some problems and would like to use it for cuts, etc.

The youth club would like to invite anyone who may be interested in learning more about these products or would like to learn how to keep a young, youthful complexion to come to the SPJST dining room October 6, 1981 at 7:30 p.m. to hear Ms. F'enningston. The products include: shampoo, reconstructor, conditioner, foot creme, jelly, liquid, suntan oil and lotion, moisturizers and cleaners, and several kits for the teenage complexion and adult skin care program.

If you have any questions about these products or would want more information please call Adell Rejcek at 875-9245 or Betty Macalik at 8756830. They will be able to answer your questions.

The youth club hopes the adult members will come and show their support and give Ms. Penningston a warm welcome. See you on October 6th at 7:30 p.m.

Our theme was a Sock Hop. Everyone dressed up in their favorite 50's style. Besides selling Klobase sandwiches and plates, we also sold popcorn and nachos.

The band was the Melody Masters from Ennis. They played polkas, waltzes, country and western, and jitterbugs. We had a great time and hope everyone else had a great time.

Mrs. Julia Fojtik died Monday, August 3, 1981 at the Autumn Hills Convalescent Center in Sugarland, Texas. She was born in Texas to Peter and Frances Jochec April 15, 1898. Mrs. Julia Fojtik was a member of Friden's United Church of Christ and a housewife.

She is survived by four daughters: Elsie Brdecka of Needville, Texas, Wilma Gaddis of Rosenberg, Texas, 011ie Dorsen of Brownsville, Texas and Evelyn Hockenberry of Emporium, Pennsylvania; one brother, Frank Jochec of East Bernard, Texas; one sister Annie Jurek of Baytown, Texas; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Ignatz Fojtik, her parents, Peter and Frances Jochec, one daughter, one brother and four sisters.

Services were under the direction of Garmany and Carden Funeral Directors of Rosenberg, Texas. May our departed sister rest in eternal peace and may her memory remain among us forever.

Arnold Vrla (130) asked everyone to turn in their remuneration slips before noon. He thanked all his committee members, especially Rita Vanek (SO), secretary.

Melvin Skrabanek (17) asked if the Committee listed on page 1 is the Publicity Committee or the Publication Committee.

Mildred Holeman (88) said that she thought President Morris should receive some reimbursement for compiling the SPJST History.

Louise Zavodny (24) said that Norma Andel would compensate each of her three co-workers an additional $25.00.

Lillian Finn (88) made a motion that we compensate President Morris $2,500 for his work on the SPJST History. Monta Foster (79) said the committee recognized the work he was doing but everyone had worked extra and we must draw the line somewhere. Chairman Pokladnik said this should come under new business.

Kenneth Krivanek (92) made the motion that we authorize the Finance Committee to reimburse all standing committees the same as that allowed to the respective committees during the convention. Johnny Broz (88) seconded. Edwin Adamek (29) said these committees took the job at the last convention and they should serve at that pay. The motion failed.

Chairman Pokladnik said on behalf of the Insurance Committee and Vice President Gebala that all sales representatives rise and be recognized.

Ed Mazanec, chairman of the Publication Committee, presented the final report of the Publication Committee. (See Appendix) Members of his committee were Vice Chairman Angeline Kristinek, Secretary Melvin Skrabanek, Ruby Bolton, Tommy Lostak, Sophie Dybala and Emil Matula. In his report he stated that a tabloid design could save us $30,000 to $40,000.00 in four years.

He then gave the following bids: Cechoslovak Publishing Company 10,500 copies per week for 52 weeks .. . $66,929.72, as now published. In tabloid form it was $60,637.72.

Marlin Daily Democrat - $1,211.00 per issue for the first year. Second year, $1,348.55. Third year, $1,499.28. Fourth year, $1,664.76. These bids were all for tabloid form.

Stillhouse Publishing Company - $1,790 per issue for 32 pages; $1,530.00 for 16 pages.

The Publication Committee had asked Financial Secretary Mikulas to analyze the bids and come up with some four-year figures.

Wednesday, October 7, 1981 — VASTNIK/11 made a motion that we use the tabloid form.

Arnold Vrla (130) asked to see the tabloid again. Jos. Holasek (36) said he would not recommend a tabloid because they do not stay together as well. Ernest Jasek (185) said to keep the Vestnik as is. Johnny Broz (88) seconded the motion for the tabloid. Mildred Holeman (88) said she was in favor of the tabloid if it saves money. Emil Petr (84) said the tabloid would be fine and that the Vestnik falls apart any way. Albert Mikulencak (18) said he was in favor of the tabloid but wants it with color. Tim Kostom (88) said he likes the Vestnik as it is. Ardis Bacak (40) said if it saves money we should get the tabloid because we can't satisfy everyone. Ed Mazanec said more printing space would be available in a tabloid. Frances Olexa (88) asked if it would stay at 32 pages as it is.

Chairman Pokiadnik said it would. Motion carried.

Ed Mazanec said all bids were high so the Publication Committee recommends we reject ail bids and let the Supreme Lodge negotiate for lower prices. He also asked that a member of the Publication Committee and the editor sit in with the Supreme Lodge during negotiations. Chairman Pokladnik said the second part would have to come later. Ruby Bolton (47) seconded the motion that all bids be rejected. Ed Mazanec said the delegates could go over the head of the Publication Committee if they wished. The motion carried, except for the second portion that would have to go to the By-Law Committee for study.

Chairman Pokladnik announced that the deadline for buying tickets to the Lone Star Brewery was noon today.

Arnold Vrla (130) asked that the Finance Committee meet in Room 2, five minutes before re-adjournment from the morning break.

Tim Kostom (88) said albums from the last convention were on sale for $5.00.

Ben Jarma (84) said the Insurance Committee would meet in Room 1 at 1:15.

The session then recessed for a 15-minute break.

Tuesday, June 10, 1980 [1040 a.m. -12 noon) Chairman Pokiadnik called on Darlene Engelke (66), Chairman of the Credentials Committee, to give a corrected delegate vote after all deletions and additions. Darlene Engelke stated that after very careful checking that the final vote count was 38,648.

In addition, she reminded the delegates that only the top delegate may cast the odd votes.

Chairman Pokladnik turned the convention over to Vice Chairman Jerry Prochazka. Vice Chairman Prochazka called upon the delegates to approve the minutes of the 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. afternoon session of June 9 1980.

After minor corrections, Richard Wahlberg (88) moved that the minutes be accepted as read, seconded by Albert Kubala (92), and motion carried.

Chairman Pokladnik called upon President Morris to explain Tuesday's youth activities.

President Morris stated that the Miss SPJST talent contest will be held at 2 p.m. in the Convention Center and that at 8 p.m. the speech presentation and the crowning of the Miss SPJST will be held at the La Villita Assembly Hall. In addition, president Morris mentioned that shortly following the Miss SPJST Coronation, a youth program highlighting some of the youthful talent of the SPJST will be held. President Morris further stated that there will be no meal preceding the competition and the delegates are to eat on their own. He further stated that there will be no admission charge for the coronation and the entertainment.

Chairman Pokladnik stated that all of the convention committees have now reported and called upon the chairman of the By-Law Committee.

By-Law Committee Chairman Ben Trcalek (17) asked the delegates to refer to their packets and get their yellow sheets and alio referred to the additional sheet containing by-law changes that was passed out on Monday.

Chairman Pokiadnik informed the delegates that the by-law changes as presented by the By-Law Committee do not require a motion from the floor.

Ben Trcalek (17) asked the delegates to turn to page 8 of the proposed by-law changes.

Arnold Vrla (130) referred back to page 1 and questioned and requested that the WATS number for the SPJST be printed on the front page of the by-laws. Ben Trcalek (17) informed that the WATS line was not intended to be made public at this time. Ben Trcalek (17) called the delegates' attention to the misspelling of the word "economic" in the

third paragraph under the section of the by-laws labelled PREAMBLE. Under section labelled NAME - no change Ben Trcalek (17) moved that the words "economic and social" and "in the event of death" be deleted and change the word "their families" to read "the families" under the section labelled PURPOSE. The above deletions were then approved by show of hands of the delegates present.

Under section labelled ORGANIZATION no change Under the section entitled MEMBERSHIP, Ben Trcalek moved that the word "who" be deleted and that the spelling be corrected on the word "pledge". By show of hands the delegates approved the above changes.

Ben Trcalek (17) then stated that the By-Law Committee has reversed its original proposal to change financial secretary to comptroller under the section labelled SUPREME LODGE. In other words, Ben Trcalek stated that the word financial secretary will be used throughout the by-laws instead of comptroller. In the same section, he moved that the following sentence be deleted.

"This functioning of the Supreme Lodge is divided into three departments: Administration Department, Insurance Department, and Investment Department". Rudy Sefcik (54) asked for a reasoning for this deletion to which Ben Trcalek responded by saying that these duties are covered elsewhere in the by-laws and that the committee felt that it was insignificant to list them here. Following the above, the deletion was accepted by a show of hands by the delegates present.

Under Section labelled DIRECTORS, CONVENTION and LANGUAGE - no change ARTICLE 1 (a) (b) (c) and (d) - no change ARTICLE 1 (e), Ben Trcalek moved that the words "Rules and Regulations" be deleted and that the words "the laws" be substituted in its place, to which the delegates approved by a show of hands.

ARTICLE 1(1), Ben Trcalek moved that the words "By-Laws" be deleted and that the words ‘`the laws" be substituted in its place.

Donnie Victorick (9) stated that since we have taken out rules and regulations in section (e) above that this same phrase should also be omitted from section (f). Ben Trcalek responded by saying that local lodges have rules and regulations and that this distinction needs to remain in this section. Following this discussion, the above was approved by a show of hands by delegates present.

ARTICLE 1 (g) (h) and (i) - no change ARTICLE 1 (j), Ben Trcalek moved that the words "may be" be deleted and that the word "becomes" be inserted in its place, to which the delegates approved by a show of hands.

Alvin Sefcik (173) stated that he had submitted a proposal to the By-Law Committee to replace the wording in Article 1 (i). Arnold Vrla (130) stated that his lodge recommended a change to delete the word "assessments" from Article 1 (k) and he wanted to know the reasoning why the By-Law Committee did not act on this request. Ben Trcalek (17) stated that it was the committee's impression that members could find themselves in a position of having to pay assessments. Arnold Vrla (130) requested that his recommendation be withdrawn.

ARTICLE 1 (k) - no change ARTICLE 1(1), Ben Trcalek moved that this entire section be deleted which states "A holder of an Extended Term Insurance certificate has no local lodge privileges" to which this was accepted by show of hands from the delegates present.

ARTICLE 2 - no change ARTICLE 3 (a) (b) (c) (d) and (e) - no change ARTICLE 3 (f), Ben Trcalek moved that the words "administration of the Society" be deleted entirely to which the delegates approved by show of hands.

ARTICLE 3 (g), Ben Trcalek moved that the words "a state youth director" be deleted because it was the committee's feeling that this position is held by an employee, is not an elected official, and that the selection of this position is covered in another section of the by-laws. Richard Wahlberg, Jr. (88) asked are we sure that we will have a state youth director if we approve this deletion. Helen Oates (130) stated that she didn't see any reason to delete the state youth director from this section and that by removing it she felt that it was downgrading this position and not adding any prestige to this office. President Morris stated that there is no justifiable reason to include the state youth director in this section because the actuary and the medical examiners, are professionals who are paid by retainer and are not on salary.

President Morris stated that these positions are not similar in stature. Chairman Pokiadnik called for a majority vote by a show of hands.

Following this, Chairman Pokladnik corrected the above by stating that any by-law change will require a two-thirds majority for approval

or change. With this in mind, Chairman Pokiadnik took a standing body count which showed 177 votes for deletion of the above and 129 against to which the motion failed by falling short of the 204 votes required to be a two-thirds majority, therefore, "a state youth director" will remain in Article 3 (g).

Emil Matula (133) stated that his lodge presented a change to the By-Law Committee in Article 3 (g), that pertains to necessary equipment. He read from a prepared statement. He asked the By-Law Committee why it was not considered. He stated that this change was in relation to the automobiles bought by the Supreme Lodge. Ben Trcalek stated that the by-laws contain a statement that the Supreme Lodge can buy necessary equipment. Rudy Sefcik (54) explained that he did not get the letter from the committee until just before the convention. Ben Trcalek said that Jerry Milan (154), the former chairman of the By-Law Committee, received the letter but it was delivered to the committee until just recently. Maxine Sefcik (54) stated that based on her previous experience that office equipment and automobiles are classified differently. Larry Pflughaupt (88) stated that the State Comtatroller's office classifies automobiles in an entirely different category from office equipment such as typewriters. Al Kercho (92) stated that you can separate autos and typewriters on your books but both are still pieces of equipment. Legal Advisor Reuben Lesikar (29) stated that if an item is needed that it is bought. He stated that the present By-Law Committee feels that the present by-laws include automobiles as equipment. He further stated that upon request from the Supreme Lodge he offered his opinion that an automobile is equipment.

In addition, the Supreme Lodge asked if they would have the authority to purchase a computer under the heading of equipment. He further stated that he felt a computer was considered as equipment but that he advised in this case, that since this involved a large sum of money and that since the convention was so close that this purchase should be brought before the delegates. In conclusion, Legal Advisor Reuben B. Lesikar stated that the By-Law Committee from the previous two conventions and this convention feel that Article 3 (g) is sufficient in relation to the phrase "buy necessary equipment."

ARTICLE 3 (h) - Ben Trcalek moved that the entire section be deleted which is as follows: Shall review the recommendation of the Publication Committee as to bids of the publisher of the official organ. If the convention fails to make a selection of a publisher, for whatever reason, the matter of selecting such publisher shall become the duty of the Supreme Lodge.

Editor Rudy Sefcik asked that if we delete this section how will we handle the selection of the Vestnik publisher. Ben Trcalek (17) stated that the delegates in this morning's session have turned over the authority to select a publisher to the Supreme Lodge because the Publication Committee had rejected all bids submitted. Furthermore, he stated that a provision covering the above deleted section will be inserted in Article 37. Following this discussion, the delegates approved by show of hands the entire deletion of Article 3 (h).

ARTICLE 4 (a) - Ben Trcalek moved that the words "and full benefit" be completely deleted. There was no discussion and this passed by a show of hands.

ARTICLE 4 (a) 1 - no change ARTICLE 4 (a) 2 - Ben Trcalek moved that we change 100 members to 150 members.

Helen Oates (130) strongly protested this recommendation saying that this will make it harder on the smaller lodges. Ardis Bacak (40) agreed with Helen Oates that this recommendation would hurt the small lodges. She further suggested the following schedule for allocation of delegates to lodges: From 20 to 100 members - one delegate From 100 to 1,000 members - one delegate per 100 members.

Over 1,000 members - one delegate per each 300 members.

Chairman Pokladnik then asked Ardis Bacak if she had submitted the above recommendadon to the By-Law Committee prior to the convention. Ardis Bacak stated that she had not. Emil Petr (84) stated that he feels the same as he has in the previous convention that the ratio as is should reinain and that he thinks that the present allocation of 100 members per delegate is wonderful for the Society and that this reward to the delegates encourages them to work harder for the Society. Victor A. Peter (172) tells the delegates to remember that we are representing 100 members at home and that he felt that a delegate should not represent more than 100 members. Frances Olext (88) stated that this has come up over the last several conventions and that she felt that the large pay for their delegates through the remittance

of insurance premiums to the Supreme Lodge, and in addition she stated that she felt some of the little lodges do not remit enough premiums to pay for their delegates and that the article should remain as is Louis Hanus (88) stated that every lodge, whether large or small in his district, works hard for the SPJST, is entitled to the delegates and that if we change this article that it is going to hurt both the large lodge and the small lodge. Roy Hranicky (137) stated that he is a member of a small lodge and is in favor of keeping the delegate ratio in the present form. Chester Shmoldas (74) stated that he was in favor of the 150 member change in order to save money for the Society and to offer more premium refunds to the members. Harley Cox (88) stated that if we make this change we will lose representation by a lot of young people serving as delegates at this convention and for that reason he favored leaving it as is. Arnold Vrla (130) quoted Frank B. Steiner (84) to the effect, That being a delegate is a reward and that it encourages members to work harder for their lodge during the convention year and that a delegate receives a lot of hugs andkisses from many more delegates being present at the convention," so he favors leaving as is Chairman Pokladnik said that you mean "hubiZka." Ben Trcalek wanted to state the following facts to support the recommendation of the By-Law Committee.

He stated that if this by4aw is changed it will only affect 60 of the 91 lodges represented at this convention and the 387 delegates represented at this convention would be reduced to 255. Chairman Pokladnik called for a vote and the delegates rejected the By-Law Committee's recommendation changing the ratio of members to delegates from 100 to 150.

ARTICLE 4 (a) 3 - Ben Trcalek moved that the wording "A lodge attaining an additional 100 members between the annual meeting and 60 days before the convention may elect an additional delegate" be changed to read as follows: "A lodge attaining enough members for an additional delegate between the annual meeting and 60 days before the convention will fill that position under the provisions of Article 4(g)3." The delegates approved this change by show of hands.

ARTICLE 4 (a) 4 - no change ARTICLE 4 (b) - no change ARTICLE 4 (c) - Ben Trcalek moved that the words "or merged" be inserted in the first line between the words "organized" and "less" and that the words "or merger" be added to the end of this article following the word "organization", to which the delegates approved by show of hands.

ARTICLE 4 (d) - no change ARTICLE 4 (e)1 - Ben Trcalek moved that the words "either" and "or full benefit" be deleted from this article entirely, to which the delegates approved by show of hands.

Chairman Pokladnik recognized Howard Leshikar (48), Chairman of the Rest Homes, who gave a report on the Rest Homes over the last four years stating that they have been constantly improving the facilities, keeping a firm hold on the budget, that they had a waiting list and at the same time are providing care at the most reasonable rates. (See Appendix) Howard Leshikar (48) introduced the seven directors of the Rest Homes along, with the two administrators and their spouses who are as follows: District 1 - Melvin Skrabanek District II - Howard Leshikar District III - Cyrill Pokladnik District IV- Emil Havlak District V - Herbert Nowotny District VI - Erwin Holy District VII - Eugene Hrncir Taylor Rest Home Administrator - Mrs. Frances Schwenker and her husband, Stanley.
