District VII Director Attends San Antonio Lodge Meeting Dear Readers: It was my pleasure Sunday, August 16, to attend the regular monthly meeting of San Antonio Lodge No. 133, accompanied by my husband and young daughter. Upon arriving, I was greeted very cordially by the large number of members in attendance and introduced to members I have not had the pleasure knowing before. The meeting was called to order, promptly on time, by the president, Brother Emil Matula. Other officers included Vice President Bill Mares, Secretary Dominic Netek, Treasurer Vio la Mazac and Flagbearer Alfred Kalmus. Each officer was very efficient in performing his duties, as well as the committees who made various reports. Lodge No. 133 will host the fall District VII meeting to be held at the Polish Center on Mission Rd. on September 20. I urge the members of District VII to make a real effort to attend this meeting. What a wonderful time to socialize with each other and get better acquainted! Visitors from other districts are also cordially invited. Refreshments of sandwiches, desserts, and drinks will be available throughout the afternoon beginning at 12 noon. During the meeting, I was asked to say a few words, and I truly appreciated everyone's attentiveness. The fraternalism and warm concern these members feel for each other was evident throughout the afternoon, and I felt very lucky that my family and I could be a part of their fellowship that afternoon. Fraternally, Thelma Hrncir District VII Director

Texas Czechs Revitalize Organization The Czech Ex-Students Association of Texas, (CESAT) had its beginnings in 1909 at the University of Texas in Austin. Several students of Czech background formed a club to study, perpetuate, and promote the Czech language, and that organization in its modern form is still carrying out this work today. Despite its name, CESAT welcomes as a member any Texan who has a background in Czech cultural affairs and demonstrates an interest in pursuing the goals of the organization, even if he has never enrolled in a Czech language course. CESAT helps young Texas Czechs finance their university educations with low-interest loans and awards grants to support worthy projects (Continued on Page 12)
