This sign has been up for a number of weeks identifying the site of the new lodge home of Lodge 186, Caldwell. The sign stands on the corner of the property which adjoins and is just east of Hwy. No. 36 out of Caldwell on the south side of town going towards Somerville and Brenham. Ground-breaking ceremonies were held on Saturday, June 13th. After several weeks delay in the start of construction due to heavy and constant rains, the steel girders for the new home of Lodge 186 were recently erected.

The Cooking Crew at Lodge No. 24 in Cyclone; they cooked a delicious sausage supper for the July 26, 1981 occasion.

This is another view of the steel beam, and girders in place. Formal opening and dedication of the new facility 1 ,, tentatively set for Sunday, October 25th.—NAM

M/Sgt. Kiefert Retires From Service M/Sgt. (E-8) Betty A. Kiefert retired from the United States Army after 20 years of service.

She is the daughter of Anton Kelner, Jr., a member of SPJST Lodge No. 28 in East Bernard.

A 1960 graduate of East Bernard

High School, she entered the Army in Houston, Texas.

At her retirement ceremony at Darnell Army Community Hospital at Fort Hood, Texas, she was presented the Legion of Merit.

Attending her retirement ceremony included her husband. Reynold and son Edward.

After retiring she will reside in Plano, Texas.

Cyclone Lodge Recipient of Longstanding and his Spouse, Brother John and Sister Olga (Zabcik) Bedrich.

The celebration of 50-year membership pins was held Sunday, July'26, 1981 at Lodge No. 24 and it was enjoyed by those who attended.

Lodge President Dan Sebek got the attention of the people and said the prayer, after which a sausage dinner was served. Then the, assembly was called to order and the special guest, members and visitors were welcomed by the president.

Afterwards, he introduced SL Secretary-Treasurer Leonard Mikeska who presented the pin and boutonniere to our honoree.

LETTERS 4th of July Picnic At Lodge No. 130

Our Old-Fashioned 4th of JULY PICNIC which was held Sunday, the 5th of July turned out to be a big success. It was sponsored by four (4) organizations: SPJST Lodge No. 130, Circle of Czech Women, WFLA Lodge No. 401 and Sokol Zizka.

The attendance was, by far, more than our expectation. The young enjoyed games and the most `TUNTHING" was the watermelon eating contest. The participants were classified by age groups, starting with five-year-olds through age 30. This was absolutely hilarious. The barbecued chicken and trimmings were excellent.

It was a day of nice fellowship and our motto was practiced by all -"FRATERNALISM IS A FAMILY AFFAIR." A. M. Vrla

The meeting was called to order by President Holeman at 7:35 p.m. Bobby Allbritton presented the colors and led the members in the Pledge of Allegiance, after which, the members stood in silence in memory and tribute to deceased members, Brothers Ronald J. Demny, Harvey G. Fields, Joseph W. Fusig, Gerald R. Jedlicka, Edmund F. Sobotik, Clance E. Wernli, Keith Cornicelli and Sister Olga Elsik.

Eight officers were present and visitors for our meeting were Mrs. Alice Souchek, Mr. and Mrs. Eickenhorst and Mr. Victor Gerlich.

Secretary Clara Broz read the minutes of the June meeting which were approved as read and then read the correspondence. After reading a list of 75 applications for insurance, 1 social member and 2 transfers, made a motion that they be accepted as read, seconded by Brother Pfiughaupt and carried.

All insurance and financial reports were read and approved.

Youth Leader Joyce Mynar reported on the Youth Club meeting, activities and the big success of YAD. She announced a project on Homecoming and asked for any donations, State YAD in Temple August 23rd and a bus would be available for all first place winners and their parents, and camp for youth members to be August 7, 8, 9, 10. A donation was made to the Choral Group and Concert Orchestra for their performance at YAD. Entertainment Chairman Homer Alexander reported the committee would have the over and under table on "Homecoming" and some night would assist the Board in repairing the tables. He stated that a schedule of all the dances for the remainder of the year has been printed and was available. He then thanked Sister Wehring and her committee for the beautiful decorations at the Hawaiian dance.

Board Chairman Karl Lindemann reported on the action of the Board of Trustees at their meeting and made a motion to give the Board authority to repair the roof, whatever the cost, seconded by Brother Finn and carried. Brother Lindemann announced that Brother Joe Miksch was retiring and a new caretaker was needed.

Sister Mary Kosut, Sunshine chairman, reported 369 hours and $1,023.50

4/VESTNIK — Wednesday, August 5, 1981 in expense as charity work for June and stated that a pallbearer for a lodge member can also be credited as charity work.

Members reported sick were Sisters Emma Jarisch, Martha Marie and Brothers Charles Kelly, Wilber Heinsohn and Royal Warnasch.

Brother Souchek reported 27 members having indicated their wanting to attend the Czech class and they would start in September.

Sister Mary Tilich reported for the Guide: 125 members present.

"Happy Birthday" was sung to members having birthdays and a list of anniversaries was read. Door prize winners were Brothers A. B. Kleb, Bill Malak, Gus Gerlich and special Liberty Savings prize winner was Sister Louise Kadlecek. Refreshments after the meeting were donated by Sister Irma and Brother Joe Zucca.

President Holeman explained the Telephone Committee was calling all members on committees to bring canned goods or whatever to the lodge for homecoming.

Meeting adjourned at 9:10 p.m.

Our next monthly meeting will be held August 10, 1981 at 7:30 p.m. with covered dish supper at 6:30 p.m. before the meeting.

Antonio Lodge To Host District VII Meeting San

Dear Members and Friends: Lodge No. 133 held their regular monthly meeting July 19 at 1505 S. Gevers Street. The attendance was very good.

President Matula convened the meeting by leading the membership in the Pledge of Allegiance.

The report of officers present was given by Secretary Netek. It was reported that Vice President Bill Mares was not present because of having to visit his mother (out-of town) who is seriously sick; Bill, the members of Lodge No 133 hope that your dear mother will get well soon.

We also hope that Sister Viola Fajkus will soon get on the get-well list; we are thinking of you and missed you at the meeting.

Many items of interest were discussed. The coming District VII meeting that will be held at the Polish-American Center in San Antonio, September 20, 1981, located at 2611 Mission Road. It is very easy to get`to and we will have more information on this matter and also give you instructions on how to get there. We do hope to have a good attendance; you nice people from Corpus Christi, Robstown, Flores ville, and other areas! because we are depending on you Also, we would like to have, and it would be our privilege to have, officers from other districts to pay us a visit. We do hope to have someone from the Supreme Lodge with us for that day and also Editor Rudy Sefeik; a special invitation to you, Rudy; we are giving you enough time to prepare yourself to come to our District VII meeting. We always enjoy seeing you and your lovely wife.

Many of our members wish to thank Brother Emil Matula for the fine job that he has done in the organization of the 25th Infantry

Divisiow, Reunion. Some of us were very fortunate to attend some of the activities, and I must say thatit was out of this world. What a beautiful sight to witness many of the veterans of the division to meet for the first time in 20 and even 30 years. It was very emotional but a moment yoti never forget. Thank you, Emil, for your efforts in bringing so many people together and to bring them the happiness for this I am sure that you will be rewarded.

The Czech societies in San Antonio are having their annual Czech Festival August 9; everyone is invited to come to Comanche Park.

Dear Members: Our lodge met Sunday, July 12, 1981 at the Grant Bldg. beginning at 2 p.m. with President Frank Zabransky presiding.

Helen Zabransky led the Pledge to the U.S. Flag.

Corresponding Secretary Erwin Holy read the minutes to last month's meeting, which were approved.

Correspondence was also read.

Co-Youth Leader Gaynelle Chudej reported on the youth activities including a trip to Austin, camp, etc.

Financial Secretary Hilmer Galetka gave his report followed by Treasurer Helen Zabransky reading her report.

The Mikush reunion was held Sunday, July 5, 1981 at the American Legion Hall in Hallettsville with about 245 people registered for the occasion.

Prizes were given to the listed family members as listed below: Mrs. Lester (James) Lillie Frieda received prizes for the largest family (37) out of the 40 were present; her daughter, Mrs. Cejka was in the hospital where she spent 28 days. The youngest person attending was a baby girl of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Rias of Columbus, Texas; and the youngest married couple was, Mr. and Mrs. Rex Bennetsen of Victoria.

It rained on that day of the reunion, but it didn't keep all of us from having a grand time.

Pleasant Friendship Continues In The Fourth Generation The day of July 3, 1981, was a real surprise for me when I received a picture postcard mailed from Switzerland in Europe signed by 16-year-old Miss Michele Lavespere. She is touring Europe with the Choral Singers Group from Rosenberg, Texas.

She wrote: "Dear Mr. John: I am having a great time here in Europe. I hope you can save this stamp from

Switzerland. I hope that some day I can repay you for everything you have given us. Love always, Michele Lavespere."

About two years ago Michele's dear mother, Linda was here in Corpus Christi, Texas; we met for the first time. She said that her son, Michael, age 12, is also a postage stamp collector. Since then I mailed him some stamps from my supply. These two children have a great-grandmother, age 86, named Frances Kostelnik, who lives in Needville; she is my friend since 1907.

Few days ago dear Frances mailed me a sports newspaper issue printed in Houston, Texas from there I was informed that dear Michele is a great sports woman. She is interested in medical doctor studies. (When she is visiting her dear great-grandmother, she takes her blood pressure.) She is the mother of son George and daughter Georgene married Herman Ledbetter. Linda is the daughter of Mr and Mrs. Henry Ledbetter and Michele is the daughter of Dan and Linda Lavespere.

My sincere congratulations on your endeavor and best of luck in the coming years. Your lovely family is proud of your good work; I am also; just keep up, dear Michele.

Benny and I had a nice visit in Megargel and Olney and then I end up back in the hospital with a pneumonia relapse. I have been here a week and it looks as if I have a few more days to go; again, I want to thank you all for the many get-well wishes and prayers.

We will have a country/western dance Saturday, August 22 with Rick Garner and Rick-O-Shay. Rick was formerly with Jerry Max Lane, so mark this date.

I had a card from Brother Roy and Sister Lydia Alholm where they are visiting in Finland with Roy's relatives. On their way home they will attend the Polka Festival in Nebraska. They send their regards to all.

The Slavonic Mutual Fire Insurance Association of Chapter No. 30 held its regular meeting July 19, 1981 at 3:15 p.m.

President Raymond Cykala called the meeting to order. The Pledge of Allegiance was then recited.

All officers were present: President

Raymond Cykala, Vice President Edna Koonce, Honorary President John Stasa, Secretary Betty Jurica, Treasurer Frank Veselka.

Minutes of the previous meeting

were read and approved.

In the report from the secretary, we learned that many members 'do not obey the constitution and by-laws.

They are removed from the books and replaced with new ones.

Brother Frank C..Sacky announced that member Victor Huff, Sr. is in the hospital and member Adolf Pilat is ill at his home. All of us wish them a speedy recovery and hope it won't be too long before they get better and are up and about.

We had two visitors, Albin Kucera and Albert Brandesky, from the KJT, RVOS, and Czech Heritage Society organizations. We learned where the Del Mar College wants the City Council to change the name of Jos. A. Kosar Street to Alleen Craighton Lane. July 22, 1981, we decided to pass a resolution in protest that this street name should not be changed.

A covered dish supper followed after the meeting which was held at the American Legion Hall in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Sixtieth Anniversary It is my wish to join in congratulating celebrants, Brother Frank and Sister Albina Vytopil of Bryan, Texas, who were married 60 years ago June 20 at Kaufman, Texas, and celebrated their anniversary June 25, 1981 at Bryan. (Not many married couples have the pleasure to live that many years together.)

I wish you many more pleasant years, better health and satisfied years to come with your dear children, relatives and sincere friends.

The moments in our life are mixed: Pleasant and sad. You lost a loving son, Frank, in World War II. I lost my son, Stanley, in his infancy in Buckholts, Texas and loving wife,

Burleson Lodge No. 180 Observes Third Anniversary August 23rd For our third anniversary there will be a meal served for $3 a plate and children under 12 years of age for $2. Starting at 4 p.m. and a free dance to follow from 5 to 9 p.m.; music by Harold Strand Band will furnish the fine tunes, so let's all come and have a Sunday afternoon of fun and dancing.

Entertainment Chairman Joyce Russell announced that for our next meeting August 9 at 2:30 p.m., we will not have a covered dish meal.

Assembled At The City Hall

Delegates

City of Corpus Christi, Texas held a regular council meeting July 22, 1981 at 2 p.m.; it also had, on their agenda, a proposal that unpleasantly affect the citizens who have moved or were born here from 1906, when the Bohemian Colony Land was founded by Stanley L. Kostoryz.

This affair was first discussed in the General Meeting July 19, 1981, held at the American Legion Post No. 384 Home, located at 5323 Kostoryz

Road. The Slavonic Mutual Fire Insurance Association Chapter No. 30 Corpus Christ, Texas decided to oppose it.

The resolution was written, approved and signed by President Ray L. Cykala and Secretary Betty Jurica; to this resolution were added many pages of petition signatures.

All these papers were delivered personally to the Council and Secretary of the City of Corpus Christi, Texas by Bro. Frank Veselka.

At the present time there are eight Czech-Moravian-Slovak organizations: Catholic Society of Texas, Catholic Women's Society of Texas, Catholic Workers, Slavonic Benevolent Order of the State of Texas; these four organizations are life insurance societies Sokol Corpus Christi is physical culture through gymnastics (a non-profit organization), the Farmers' Mutual Fire Insurance Association, Slavonic Mutual Fire Insurance Association, and Czech Heritage Society of South Texas.

Names of those who attended the Council meeting are: Albert Brandesky, Betty Jurica, Al Kucera, Mary Kucera, Frank C. Sacky, John Stasa and Frank Veselka. These seven persons represented the eight organizations; speakers were: Frank Veselka, Albert Brandesky and Al Kucera.

The meeting adjourned at 5 p.m. and postponed it for fourteen days: changing street names, is not in the best interest of City of Corpus.

The two young ladies will be eligible to go for a "Miss Texas" tryout next year as long as they can get a sponsor to support them. *0*

To qualify for the Dean's List, an undergraduate student must have earned a grade point average of 3.5 during the semester while taking at least 12 semester hours of course work.

FEATURES First Runner-Up of S.W. Texas Pageant Miss Cejka was named 1st runnerup in "Miss Southwest Texas Pageant" in Seguin, July 4, 1981, receiving a scholarship, trophy, crown and flowers.

July 3rd, Cynthia won the bathing suit preliminary winning cash and a plaque.

She represented Hallettsville in the pageant sponsored by Hallettsvile Chamber of Commerce. There were 30 contestants.

Miss Cejka --performed a song/dance skit from "Cinderella" for her talent.

There were about 50 people from Hallettsville in the audience giving her their support, which was most encouraging.

Wedding Miss Patricia Ann Provazek became the bride of Mr. Gary Eugene Brown on June 13, 1981 at the First Church of God in Dallas. The Rev. John Boedecker officiated at the marriage.

Parents of the bride, who was given in marriage by her father, are Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Provazek of Dallas. The bride, a Delta Gamma at TCU, now attends Baylor University School of Nursing.

Parents of the bridegroom are Mr. and Mrs. Joe L. Brown of Dallas. The bridegroom graduated from Kimball High School and is attending Mountain View College. He is employed by Texas Cash Register.

The bride wore a traditional formal length wedding gown of silk swiss Guipure and gossamer sheer. It had a wedding ring collar trimmed with Alencon lace and pearls accenting the bodice and sleeves. The gown featured a fitted bodice of Alencon lace over English net. Lace appliques adorned the slim-fitted sleeves, skirt and chapel length train. Her headpiece was of Alencon lace and tiny pearls attached to a single layer of bridal illusion extending to fingertip length.

Honor attendants were Laura Smith and Rocky Oliver; other attendants were Melanie Campbell, Jane Prior, Kathy Tyroch, Lori Dyer, Steve Brown, Jim Brown, Marc Tyroch, and Joe Wyatt.

Ushers were Lee Estes and Ken Daniels.

Organ music was provided by Esther Kline; vocalists were Rose Rust and Joel Green.

After the marriage ceremony, a reception and dinner was held at the SPJST Lodge No. 84 followed by a dance in the evening. The wedding march was led by Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Salac. Music was provided by Polka Patriots of Dallas.

After a wedding trip to Acapulco, Mr. and Mrs. Brown are making their home in Dallas.

The bride and her parents are members of SPJST Lodge No. 84.

If you are a contestant in anything, be sure that you register in time or are in line before registration time is over. We are allowing more time for registration this year, but your cooperation is necessary because the people in charge of registration must then move on to other jobs. Please do not put your craft in the display area until after you register.

The lobby for the display is rather spacious where you will be able to wait with your craft until you are able to register. If you have a large craft or several crafts to enter, get your relatives or friends to help you ahead of time. We will again have large signs designating the various craft areas.

Contestants in talent are asked to announce their own selections, but NOT names, lodges, or districts.

Remember that microphones will not hurt you so step right up so that you can be heard.

If possible, get your scrapbooks to your DYC or get them to the YAD during registration time.

After 30 minutes, or after this second step, whichever comes first, both the tabulation and score sheets will be destroyed. It is emphasized that the challenging party is not entitled to see the score or tabulation sheets, but does have the right to question the accuracy of the announced winners. In other words, after the challenge has been made all figures will be rechecked to see that they are in conformity with the announcement just made, and if not, corrective steps will be taken then and there.

This should prevent the embarrassment and disappointment of having the award or crown taken away from the winner and giving it to another.

This is embarrassing and disappointing to say the least. Every attempt should be made to overcome the excitement, emotion, and pressure of the occasion to make sure that everything is in order. The audience will not object to this delay if they know what the delay is about.

Lodge members from four lodges met Sunday, July 19 at the St. Phillip's Parish Hall in El Campo for the annual Youth Achievement Day. Blue, red, and white ribbons plus cash awards were given to 45 members. First place winners will advance to Temple August 23 for state competition.

Individual Talent and Group Talent winners will also advance to State.

In the Royalty Contest, Kelly Korenek of Taiton Lodge 30 was selected as District VI Queen with her sister, Kristi Korenek as Duchess. They are the daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Korenek of El Campo. Melissa Brandt of the El Campo Lodge 50, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Brandt and Lori Holub, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Holub, duchess were runners-up. Rodney Horelka of Lodge 32, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred

There will be dance contests for different age groups and first and second prizes will be awarded to the best couple in ages 6 through 12, 13 through 18, 19 through 35, and all over 35. We plan to have a lot of fun.

There will be a supper planned for everyone at about 5:30 p.m. The district will furnish the meat and bread plus tea and all of you are to bring a salad, vegetable and/or a dessert so put this day aside and come to enjoy the fellowship. There will also be a happy hour from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

The band will continue to play after supper for about another 11/2 hours.

The District II officers are inviting you to come share this youth fellowship day with us. See you there!

Our Lodge No. 47 annual picnic was held on Sunday, July 26 during which time the youth sponsored the Fish Pond, Dunking Booth and Parking. I want to thank the youth as well as their parents who worked Saturday and/or Sunday. It couldn't have been done without you!!!

The officers held a planning meeting Wednesday, July 29. Dear Readers, The _Teens of Lodge No. 84 had their monthly meeting June 24. We discussed what we would be doing in the coming month. We decided that we would have our annual bake sale at Rudolph's Meat Market, July 11 to benefit our club.

DIME BOX YC DISCUSSES ACTIVITIES Dear Members, We had our last monthly meeting of Lodge No. 13 Dime Box Youth Club held July 19, 1981.

President Rusty Bay called the meeting to order. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Trudy Krenek. Roll call was called and we had 31 members and one visitor present.

There are four new members: Greg Schumann, Dougie Al Shire, Jenifer and Jimmy Baker. Welcome to Lodge No. 13.

The secretary's minutes were read by Pam Spitzenberger which were accepted as read.

Our meeting was then turned over to the youth leaders. We discussed going to Astroworld, August 5 and we planned to leave Sonny's Place at 9:30 a.m., and leave Astroworld at 8 p.m. State YAD will be August 23.

Camp will be from August 13 to August 16. We planned to have five cakes auctioned off at the St. Joseph's Catholic Bazaar and Picnic, July 26.

Everyone received a dollar for attending the spring meeting.

EXPRESSION OF SYMPATHY We, the undersigned Resolution Committee of SPJST Lodge No. 87, wish to express our deepest sympathy to the family of HENRY F. BLUM who passed away Sunday, May 31st.

Mr. Blum, former Temple city commissioner, mayor pro-tem, business and civic leader, was born in Temple March 30, 1895. He was 86 years of age at the time of his death, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William F. Blum.

January 1, 1917, Blum married Gaylena Forrester of Belton, Texas.

They had one child, Henry F. Blum, Jr. of Texas City.

- With no more formal education than he had on graduation from Temple High School in 1912, Blum became a well-known and respected city leader.

Blum was president of First Federal and managing officer for fourteen (14) years. Until 1978, Blum continued to work for the association as chairman of the board of. directors. From the time of his retirement until January, 1981, Blum was a member of the firm's advisory board.

Blum's career in business and finance began soon after his high school commencement exercises.

In 1912 Blum began work at Temple National Bank as secretary to president James E. (later Texas Governor "Pa") Ferguson.

After the bank closed in 1922, Blum operated Bell County Battery and Tire Company of Temple.

In 1928, he accepted a position with City National Bank of Temple.

Later, he became cashier of Farmers State Bank, and in 1939 joined the First National Bank of Temple as executive vice-president.

For years he was director at First National; he remained with the bank until 1954, when he became president and manager of First Federal Savings and Loan of Temple. He served on the board of Texas Savings and Loan League and with several national committees of the United States Savings and Loan League.

Blum also was active in church, social and professional organizations.

In 1943 he was awarded a citation for outstanding service to the Disabled American Veterans. It was the second time such an award ever had been granted to a Texan.

During the Eisenhower administration, Blum entered local politics.

For two years during his four year tenure as Temple city commissioner, Blum served as mayor pro-tern.

He was a member of Temple Rotary Club and a member and president of Temple Lions Club. He was also president of the Temple Chamber of Commerce. His hobbies included golf and travel.

He was a lifelong member of Grace Presbyterian Church.

Blum's funeral was held Monday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. at the Church with Reverend Ed Waddill officiating. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Active pallbearers included W. Glenn Morgan, Jr., William Hejl, E. P. Spurlin, William Courtney, Williard Green, and Beech Dubberley.

Honorary pallbearers were: Keifer Marshall, Joyce Key, Ben Houston, W. Glenn Morgan, Sr., Dr. Joseph Rodarte, Ber,tA. DeBord, Dr.

T. M. Neal, Frank Mayborn, Spencer Brown, Stanley Casey, Homer Patterson and Alan Johnston.

Survivors include a son, Henry F. Blum, Jr. of Texas City; a sister, Miss Lillian Blum of Dallas, two grandchildren, Barbara O'Gara of Nassau Bay and Henry F. Blum III of Dallas; and three great gi. andchildren, Bradley Blum, Henry F. Blum IV and Matthew Blum. His wife preceded him in death May, 1978.

Memorials may be made to Grace Presbyterian Church.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Hill-Pace Funeral Home.

Brother Simecek was born 19 August 1912 in Shiner to the late Frank and Agnes (Bohac) Simecek.

He married Leitha Mae Parker, June 18, 1949 in Yorktown.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. in St. Paul Lutheran Church with the Rev. Paul Ziese officiating.

Burial was in Westside Cemetery under the direction of LamprechtJanssen Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Kevin Sievers, Bobby Roeder, Roy Hranicky, Don Simecek, and Jenny Beedermann.

Survivors include his wife, Leitha Mae Simecek of Yorktown; three daughters, Mrs. Renoc Pierce, Mrs. Kitty Sievers and Mrs. La Fran Budge, all of Yorktown; three sisters, Mrs. Raymond Beedermann of New Braunsfel, Mrs. Viola Demmer of Yorktown and Miss Ethel Simecek of Yorktown; five grandchildren; and one greatgrandchild.

Besides his parents preceding him in death, were also his sister, Mrs. John Hranicky and two brothers, Raymond and Alfred Simecek.

Mrs. Pechal was born in Vesely.

She was reared and attended schools in Rosebud, and married Joe Pechal there in 1914. She was a member of Seaton Brethren Church and SPJST Lodge No. 47, Seaton.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 4 in Seaton Brethren Church with the Rev. Eugene Kotrla officiating. Burial was in Seaton Cemetery. HarperTalasek Funeral Home of Temple was in charge of arrangements.

He was born in the Whitt Community in Parker County, and was a Roman Catholic.

We, the Resolution Committee of the Novy Tabor SPJST Lodge No. 17 at Caldwell, Texas, in behalf of our membership, wish to express our heartfelt sympathy to the family of our departed sister MRS. ANNA SUROVIK, who passed away Monday, June 1, 1981 in Caldwell, Texas as a result of an automobile accident.

Sister Surovik was born October 13, 1913, at Wesley, in Austin County, Texas, the daughter of the late George Pomykal and Frances (Plasek) Pomykal. Sister Surovik grew up in Wesley. She attended grade school in Wesley and high school in Brenham. She also attended Blinn College, where she received her teaching certificate.

She was married to Fred A. Surovik July 31, 1934 at the Wesley Brethren Church. They lived in Burleson County where they were engaged in farming and ranching.

She led a very active life, enjoying gardening, her flowers and sewing for her family.

She was a faithful member of the New Tabor Brethren Church. She taught Sunday School for 22 years and was a member of the Christian Sisters in which she was very active.

Her concern for others gained her many friends.

Funeral services were held June 3, 1981 in the New Tabor Brethren Church with the pastor, Rev. Albert Michalik, officiating. Interment was in the New Tabor Brethren Church Cemetery. A prayer service was held June 2, 1981 in Phillips-Luckey Chapel led by Rev. Albert Michalik.

Survivors are one son, Fred A. Surovik, Jr. of Caldwell; five daughters, Mrs. Tony (Elaine) Perez of Austin, Mrs. David (Virginia) Mitcheltree of Denton, Mrs. Richard (Cynthia) Mabry of Dallas, Mrs. Gene (Janice) Elsik of Waco, and Mrs. Jimmy (Jean) Brandenberger of Bryan; seven grandchildren and one sister, Alvina Conklin of Wesley.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred A. Surovik May 1, 1977 and three brothers, Henry, Joe and John Pomykal.

To the loved ones and to our beloved sister, we wish eternal rest and may her memory be honored unto eternity.

EXPRESSION OF SYMPATHY We, the members of Lodge No. 9, Snook, wish to express our deepest sympathy to the- family of our departed brother JOE KULHANEK, who passed away Thursday, June 4, 1981, in a Bryan hospital.

Brother Kulhanek was born October 16, 1898, in the Providence Community. He was the son of Ferdinand and Marie (Luksa) Kulhanek.

January 7, 1925, Brother Kuihanek was united in marriage with Miss Anna Clara Junek of Snook. During his lifetime, he engaged in • meat cutting and enjoyed farming and ranching until about a year ago when ill health caused him and his wife to move to Bryan where they lived with their daughter and her family.

Brother Kulhanek was a charter member of Hope Evangelical Free Church of Bryan.

Funeral services for Brother Kulhanek were held at 2 p.m. June 6, 1981 at Hope Evangelical Free Church of America, Bryan. Rev. John M. Sundstrom, District Superintendent of the , Evangelical Free Church of America and Rev. Frank A. Simcik, pastor of Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Austin, officiated. Burial followed in the Snook Cemetery.

Brother Kulhanek was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary; and three brothers, Henry Kulhanek, Frank Kulhanek and Tony Kubicek.

His survivors include his wife, Mrs. Anna Kuihanek, one daughter, Mary Ann, and son-in-law, Rev. John R. Gantt, Jr.; one grandson, Joseph John Gantt; three brothers, Victor J. Kulhanek of Danbury, Will Kuihanek of Houston and John Kubicek of San Angelo; and many other relatives and friends.

A lifelong resident of the Schulenburg area, he was born 25 April 1891 in Dubina, Texas, the son of Frank and Marie (Vallek) Janicek. He was married to Wilhemina Sassin 13 November 1916. He was a member of the St. Rose Church and SPJST Lodge.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 8 from the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, with Rev. Jim Barlow officiating. Interment was in the Dubina Catholic Cemetery, under the direction of Schwenke-Baumgarten Funeral Chapel.
