Members of the Supreme Lodge met Monday evening, January 12th, to pay tribute to outgoing Directors John Kubena and Bob Bayer and DSRs Ben Trcalek, Lad Zatopek, Evelyn Mikeska, and Tillie Valchar. (Districts III and IV were without DSRs and District VI's DSR, Edwin Smajstrla, was unable to attend.) Vice President Bernard M. Gebala, on behalf of the Supreme Lodge, passed out gifts to the retiring DSRs, with a word of thanks for their efforts down through the years on behalf of the entire Society. The gifts consisted of a beautiful 4piece silver coffee service. It was greatly appreciated by all of them. Supreme Lodge President Nick A. Morris presented gifts to outgoing
Directors Bob Bayer- and' John A. Kubena. Speaking as a personal friend and colleague and on behalf of the other directors, District III Director Sid Pokladnik expressed best wishes to Bro. Kubena and recalled how Bro. Kubena has been both a loyal friend and worker for the SPJST over so many years. Supreme Lodge President Morris paid tribute to Bro. Kubena's long service, recalling that John had served in the capacity of Director of the Supreme Lodge representing District I from 1 January 1953 to 30 January 1954, when, upon the death of then Vice President of the (Continued on Page 6)
John and Florence Bravenec were honored on their 50th Wedding Anniversary with a reception Saturday, January 10, at the Houston Brethren Church. Hosts were their sons and wives, Rev. and Mrs. John Bravenec, Prof. and Mrs. Lorence Bravenec of College Station, Rev. Ben Bravenec of Houston, and Mr. Robert Bravenec of Navasota. Mr. andi Mrs. Bravenec were married January 10, 1931, in Houston. Their family, in addition to their sons and daughters-in-law, includes eight grandchildren. They both have been residents of Houston for over 60 years. John Bravenec has been a member of the SPJST organization for over 60 years, and has served as financial secretary, auditing committee member, and member and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Lodge Pokrok Houston No. 88. Florence Bravenec has been a member of the SPJST organization for about 50 years.

Both John and Florence Bravenec attended Massey Business College in Houston. He was a co-owner of Texas Jewelry in Houston for almost 20 years, and has been in investments and construction thereafter for over 30 years. One son, John, is the minister of the Temple Evangelical Brethren Church and is also an investment counselor. Another son, Lorence, is an attorney and certified public accountant and teaches at Texas A&M University. (Lorence is the immediate past mayor of the City of College Station.) A third son, Ben, is an employee of a Houston accounting firm and is the minister of the Sandy Point Bible Church. The fourth son, Robert, is a practicing certified public accountant in Navasota.
