AUGUST 11, 1975

FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK SL President N. A. Morris stopped by the printshop Friday on his way to St. Paul's Hospital in Dallas. By the time you read this he will have undergone surgery on Tuesday, August 10th. Needless to say, we all wish him a speedy recovery. SYD James J. Janousek has also unidergone surgery, we understand, and naturally, to him also, we say: Get back on your feet as soon as possible! • • On August 1st — The two astronauts were having their fun in the moon buggy on another planet while the youth of our Society were having their fun in District I at the Youth Achievement Day in Bryan with Lodge No. 39 acting as host. Upon our arrival, we had the opportunity to meet the new District I Youth Director Alvin E. Vavra, who is a young man in his teen years with a lot of ambition, who seemed to be acquainted with the procedure of activities. He is the son of retiring DYD Lola Vavra and Brother Alvin Vavra. The royalty contest was first on the agenda with 5 queen candidates and 4 king candidates. Each contestant presented their speech very well. The royal court and other contestants enjoyed sharing the afternoon witnessing the participants in the talent contests and the craft enteries were nicely displayed. The youth had someone

WATCH YOURSELF GO BY Just stand aside and watch yourself go by! Think of yourself as "he," instead of Pick flaws, find fault; forget the man is you, And strive to make your estimate ring true. The faults of others then will dwarf and shrink; Love's chain grows stronger by one mighty link When you, with "lie" as substitute for Have stood aside and watched yourself go by. special to share the achievement day with and that was State King Teddy Dusek of Lodge No. 17, Caldwell, who had the honor to emcee the program and present the scepter to the new district king. State King Teddy will relinquish his title at the State Royalty Contest, which will be held September 12th at Lodge No. 88, Houston. It was an exciting day for the members of Lodge No. 13, Dime Box because they had many honors bestowed upon them. They were Marlene Horak — Teenager of the Year; Kay Horak — Junior of the Year; Lodge No. 13 — Youth Club of the Year; Sister Mildred Horak — Youth Leader of the Year; and their 13-17 age group won 1st

place in the Senior Group ,Talent. This is also a very good record for one lodge. Congratulations! The evening was climaxed with a battle dance honoring the royal court and other candidates. The grand march was led by Brother Vince and Sister Rita Schielack of Lodge No. 17, Caldwell. A large crowd was on hand to witness the occasion. DYD Alvin Vavra and his assistants and helpers worked tirelessly to put everything together. Things of this nature can be accomplished only if everyone involved cooperates to the fullest. There are always a few things that pop up unexpectedly, but these will be ironed out with experience and time. This was the last District YAD of our Society for 1971, and many happy winners are working hard on their endeavors for the State YAD, which will be held August 22nd at Temple High School Auditorium. Refer to the out.lined program in this issue from the Youth Department. • • In this issue of the Vestnik is a composite listing of the Czech and Russian Language Courses offered by the Texas A&M University at College Station.
