The spring meeting of District V will be held Sunday, March 14 (this Sunday) at Lodge Stefanik No. 142, 5508 Nokia St., Houston. Will you be present? It is your democratic privilege and, frankly, your obligation in your editor's younger days they used to say, "If you're one of the bananas, join the bunch." 0

Sunday, February 21 we took a ride to Ennis for the dedication of the new Ennis Sokol Gymnastic Center which is also the home of Lodge Volna Cechie (Free Czechia) No. 135, SPJST. Many of our readers may wonder where the word -Czechia" came from and how it originated. We will pause here with the dedication reporting and attempt to explain. Many of our readers will remember the word from World War II when the daily papers carried such 11/2-inch-high bold headlines: "Hitler's words Invade Czecnia." The word quite naturally comes from "Czech" the inhabitants of that part of Czech7 tslovakia which is more commonly Inown as Bohemia. This used to be the habitat of the Bohemes, now an extnct tribe of people. The word has. become so much a commonly used name that even the maps call that province of Czechoslovakia Bohemia. Of course, present day correct usage
THE INNER MAN By Estelle McConnel He says "I seen" and "I have saw," "To boil" conies out "to bile." But when someone needs a helping hand Ec is there with a cheery smile. wears old clothes and a battered hat, De has no cash to spend. But he'll walk four miles in a blinding rain Just to comfort and help a friend. Don't judge him by the clothes he wears, Or the way his words are said. If you would truly know a man Look into his heart instead. would be "Czechia." It is probably the same as has become with our American word "aint." So much for that. Sokol Ennis can justly be proud of their new Center. It is beautiful and spacious and very appropriately constructed to meet all various needs. The Flag Raising at 1:1 am. was very MIpressive with the Pledge of Allegiance r.3cited by all to the Flag which had Levin over our U. S. Capitol at one tme. Although the wind was cold and :rither brisk, it did not dampen the festive mood of the audience. After a delicious dinner served after the . red, white and blue ribbon had been cut by
Ennis Sokol President Edwin Laznovsky, Southern District President George Prevratil, President Stanley Barcal of the American Sokol Organization (ASO) of Chicago, the program was presented. The program was well arranged and presented by MC Brother Jerry Laznovsky. The National Hymns by Sister Bernice Hamilton, addresses by Brother Edwin Laznovsky, Mr. Lloyd Adams (representing the Mayor of Ennis), Brother Sid Pokladnik, District III Director of SPJST (who presented the SD Sokol with a $1,000 check from the SP.IST). The Ennis and Corpus Christi Sokol units will, of course, receive a share of this in 'helping rebuild their homes. SPJST VP Joe B. Hejny, SD President George Prevratil and ASO President Stanley Boreal. A gymnastic program followed 'which was enjoyed by all; with a dance following. We delayed this write-up waiting for the "cuts" of the pictures to arrive. They appear in this issue. We were happy to meet all the people from all over the U:S. and especially the wellrepresented lodges from all parts of the State of Texas. We congratulate Sokol Ennis and Lodge No. 135 and wish them much lack in the future. We will very soon be dedicating one more new lodge into our circle of fraternalists. That is our newest addition, Lodge Fort Bend 175, in Ras-
