Zurich improve Health Questions
You may have seen, Zurich have launched a new and improved Income Protection Product and the initial feedback on the pricing and features has been extremely positive
To support the new product, Zurich have made a number of positive improvements to their health questions, these are aimed at making it easier for disclosures and to accept more cases with immediate terms in the rules engine. See below for a summary of the changes.
Our question changes:
Mental Health - focusing on more straight through processing (STP) for Life and Critical Illness and making the questions clear
Here’s what we’ve improved
Updated the rule for those with a combination of anxiety and depression, so the questions match what we ask for those with anxiety. More customers can now get immediate decisions for life and critical illness cover, even if they’ve had a single instance of suicide or selfharm in the past
given more time off for bereavement, allowing for quicker decisions. The questions now match those for anxiety and depression
For serious mental health issues such as Bipolar and Schizophrenia, Zurich have improved the questions to provide the underwriters with more insight into these significant conditions
And for those with moderate mental health conditions
we now only ask about referrals to psychiatry in the last 5 years, which means more point-of-sale decisions than before
Musculoskeletal - focusing on increasing the number of decisions made at the point of sale for musculoskeletal conditions, including joint pain and arthritis
Here’s what we’ve improved:
Created new rules for specific joints like ankle, elbow, hip, shoulder, and wrist, most of these will get a pointof-sale decision
Improving existing knee pain rules to allow more decisions at application
Making quicker decisions at the point of sale for back and neck pain, including if caused by a fracture. If we have to refer to underwriting, we won’t ask lots of questions.
Increased the types of arthritis customers can tell Zurich about, including Polyarthritis, Reactive Arthritis and Reiter’s syndrome, if the type isn’t known, Zurich have updated the rule to still offer some immediate decisions
Psoriatic Arthritis and Psoriasis questions simpler and will deliver more immediate decisions
For musculoskeletal changes, improved the questions for Ankylosing Spondylitis making is simpler for customers to tell Zurich about their condition providing more point-of-sale decision
Brand new rules - We increased the number of conditions that have a specific rule meaning we can offer point-of-sales decisions for more conditions
Here’s what we’ve improved:
• Fatty liver - simple questions for people with fatty liver providing an immediate decisions for those with no complication, or indications of advanced liver disease and who have had a normal liver blood test result.
• Pancreatitis – ask specific questions to allow some immediate decisions:
For a single acute episode of pancreatitis over a year ago and fully recovered, an immediate standard decision for all products
For two acute episodes of pancreatitis over a year ago and fully recovered an immediate decision for life
Sl l d ifi i h l k
We have also added some new rules that will refer for manual underwriting, but will provide the underwriters with better information to allow some decisions without the need to obtain medical evidence
•Weight loss treatment: with the availability of new drugs to help with weight loss more customers are disclosing weigh loss treatment. Whilst this is still an evolving treatment given through the NHS or privately, Zurich have introduced a new rule to capture what customer are disclosing and provide the underwriters with specific information to help in their manual assessments
•Connective tissue/Hypermobility and Systemic Lupus
Erythematosus (SLE): ask tailored questions at application to give the underwriters better information to decide if terms are available
Remember you all have access to “Chat with an expert” which is the ability to complete a pre-sales live with an underwriter. You can access this through The Pre-App tool. Below is a screen shot to help.
