Sixth Form Enrichment 2025/26

Timetabled Sixth Form Enrichment

Enrichment and Sport, Fitness and Active Wellbeing is a key part of our educational provision at the Sixth Form and an important part of the Stephen Perse Cambridge educational journey. This is a chance for you to develop skills in an area you are passionate about or to try something completely new.

You will complete your preferences form at the start of September.

Sport, Fitness and Active Wellbeing

One lesson per week of Sport, Fitness and Active Wellbeing is compulsory (Wednesday morning or Thursday afternoon).

Students are expected to wear Stephen Perse PE kit which can be ordered from www.schoolblazer.com or from the PFA second hand uniform shop. The minimum requirement is a black school branded top and plain black shorts/leggings.

German DAF

Description:

The DAF (Deutsch als Fremdsprache) B1 course is a whole year commitment, in addition to the enrichment slot, there is a weekly club

• You will ideally possess a high level of fluency in German, possibly already have a GCSE around level 7

• We will be working towards the optional qualification DAF B1. You can choose to sit the DAF at an exam session held at the Goethe Institut in London

• You would be welcome to take part in the SPC German exchange to Munich held in April 2026 and you can participate in a 5 day work experience placement in a German company.

• IDEAL IF YOU’D LIKE TO … attend a preparatory course (Studienkolleg) to qualify for admission to university in Germany/Austria, live and work in Germany/Austria, prove that you have successfully reached level B1, be issued with an official and internationally recognised certificate.

Spanish DELE

Description:

We are offering the DELE Spanish Diploma B1. It certifies a degree of competence and mastery of the Spanish language and is granted by Spain’s Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport.

• This is a whole year commitment and includes attendance at a weekly club.

• Ideally you have a very good level of fluency in Spanish and may have already gained a level 7 at GCSE.

• There is the option to sit the exam at the Instituto Cervantes in London.

Creative Arts

Description:

‘‘Fun With Drawing Techniques” An alternative to a variety of different drawing techniques in order for students to ‘think outside the box’ when approaching how to draw.

Eventually developing one or two techniques further. We will be looking at a variety of different artists demonstrating different drawing techniques such as continuous line, drawing using only one shape, drawing small, drawing on different surfaces and ‘see three shapes’. Following on from this you can then develop your own piece of individual artwork, perhaps using one or more of these drawing techniques as inspiration.

Description:

Students can plan and carry out their own experiments and science investigations, either to expand and develop skills from lessons or to cover an area of interest. Would also be useful for students with limited practical experience who want extra sessions to develop their skills assessed in the Practical Endorsement and gain more confidence.

Experiments can be Chemistry, Physics or Biology related and include areas like dissection or classic demonstrations.

Description:

Work as part of the backstage team to help design and make props, costumes, puppets, masks, and small items of set for a main school production. We do four shows a year and every project is unique - each term you will find yourself learning and developing new practical skills. Backstage students are also invited to assist behind the scenes during show week as hair and makeup artists or to work as part of the backstage crew who run the performances from the wings.

Description:

These are very practical sessions in which you will play a crucial role in supporting one of our main school theatre productions whilst developing your own skills in the DT workshop. We do four main productions a year, all of which are very different! Recent projects include creating a New York skyline for ‘Fame’ and building a boat for ‘The Odyssey’ (pictured). All levels of experience welcome.

Description:

These are very practical sessions with a focus on performance; they may lead to the creation of a short film or a live performance. Recent projects include a student-led horror movie filmed on location; for our next project we plan to create a site-specific live performance with ghostly undertones. Anyone in Years 12-13 who wants to further develop their performance skills and their understanding of how to create live theatre and/ or film is welcome, regardless of previous experience.

Description:

These are very practical sessions where you will learn all about the technical elements of theatre such as sound and lighting and how to use these in performance. Learn how to set up, programme and operate the technical equipment (microphones, intelligent lighting, smoke machines, etc) and assist with the preparation for productions, performances and concerts throughout the year.

Theatre tech students are also invited to join the backstage and technical crew for evening music and theatre performances and to help run these events.

Description:

In a world of mis-truths, fake news, and outright lies, it is important for everyone to have the critical thinking skills to discuss ideas, claims, and data through an informed lens. This course will use real examples to illustrate classic pitfalls in critical thinking, and give you insights into how to analyse claims. From behavioural biases, to statistical fallacies, to challenging your assumptions, this course is a highly interactive course that requires you to give your views and contribute your own ideas.

An opportunity to contribute to our fantastic school magazine, entirely designed, written and edited by students! Whatever your interest, be it design, art, writing or proofreading and editing, your input would be welcome. Sessions are spent discussing and researching articles, writing or putting together the magazine itself.

Description:

This course is for anyone interested in performing any style of popular music in small bands/groups or as a soloist. This is suited to people who play band instruments (guitar, drums, bass, piano) or sing. You might even learn to play the bass or drums here. Song writing can be taught and there are opportunities to perform.

Do you remember learning to read? Do you love books and want to share that passion with younger children?

Reading is a vital skill that opens up a world of learning, and you can help make a difference!

We’re looking for Sixth Form volunteers to read with Year 1 and 2 pupils (ages 5-6) at the Junior School. Whether you enjoy reading aloud or listening to young readers grow in confidence, this is a fantastic opportunity to support and inspire the next generation of book lovers.

By volunteering, you’ll be helping children develop their reading skills, boost their confidence, and explore the world through stories. If you’re enthusiastic about reading and want to make a meaningful impact, come and join us in the Junior School!

Description:

Join us to learn how to grow and conserve old varieties of vegetables, preserving biodiversity and local food traditions. You’ll explore the best ways to cultivate these crops in the face of our changing climate, gaining practical skills that adapt to shifting weather patterns. Discover how to save and produce vegetable seeds, contributing directly to a local food bank and supporting community resilience. As part of the program, you’ll also help restore habitats on our nature reserve, actively participating in hands-on conservation work.

Our routes vary, but the distance is approximately 3 miles at a steady pace. Description:

In this class you learn the basics of yoga, with varied sequences introducing you to different types of yoga - from Vinyasa or Flow to Restorative and Nidra. Every session is about listening to your body - sometimes you need to rest, sometimes you need to move. The body, mind and breath are intrinsically linked. Yoga is a practice that brings awareness to the connectivity of these elements, bringing them into alignment that allows us to begin a journey of understanding about the real reasons we exist - to discover the love and light within ourselves.

Keen to develop your cricket skills and get ready for the 2026 season? Join our Sixth Form cricket training sessions, focused on improving your hard ball technique in a supportive environment.

The HSK (Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi) test is China’s only official test of Chinese language proficiency for non-native speakers.

• HSK is a whole-year commitment, plus a weekly club

• During the course, you will be working towards an optional qualification for HSK 4.

• You already have a GCSE Chinese around level 7 or equivalent

• Benefits of learning HSK:

Description:

Are you passionate about maths? Do you love being creative and coming up with fun, hands-on ways to explore mathematical concepts? If so, this is your chance to share your enthusiasm with younger students!

Create a Maths Hub and work with a group of eight enthusiastic Year 5 pupils (aged 9-10) who share your excitement about numbers and problemsolving. You’ll take part in a cycle of:

• Planning Week (at the Senior School) – Design a creative and engaging maths session.

• Teaching Week (at the Junior School, Shaftesbury Road) – Lead your session and inspire your group!

Running the club takes dedication, patience, and imagination, but you won’t be on your own, a member of the Junior Staff Team will support you during your teaching sessions.

This is a fantastic opportunity to develop leadership, teamwork, and communication skills while making maths fun for younger students.

Our paddlesports activity, encompassing both stand-up paddleboarding (SUPs) and kayaking, offers an incredibly refreshing and engaging experience for students. It’s a fantastic opportunity to get out on the water, connect with nature, and develop a unique set of skills.

Paddlesports are not just about propelling yourself across the surface; they brilliantly foster balance, coordination, and core strength. In this class you learn the basics of yoga, with varied sequences introducing you to different types of yoga - from Vinyasa or Flow to Restorative and Nidra.
