Every day, we at Spectrum strive to help you live life to the fullest by creating exciting, new experiences for you to enjoy and look back on. Following all of the compelling events and activities that we brought to you last month, we are delighted to introduce even more fun and creative ways for you to enrich your lives in February. With Valentine’s Day and other special events right around the corner, we encourage you to join us and connect with one another for the myriad of entertaining activities and programs that we have planned for you. Together, we will celebrate many things from our past while creating all-new memories, friendships, and accomplishments for our future. In addition to recognizing the present “month of love”, we will explore another monumental time in our rich history. We are most excited to bring you our main event, Art Through the Ages, which will feature intergenerational art pieces from within your own community, as well as pieces by local artists and artisans who will have their unique works on display. Each passing decade brings remarkable events and innovations that have shaped and molded our present and our future. This month, let us reflect together on another very unique time of our lives...

The Decade of Resolution: 1910-1919 Many will remember this decade as a turning point in history: The United States bravely entered the First World War (1914-1919). Despite the feeling of uncertainty that the world experienced during that time, many exciting new innovations were still developing. Einstein published his Theory of Relativity, ballroom dancing and silent films became ever more popular, and inventions like the Pop-Up Toaster were introduced, adding efficiency to our daily lives. Perhaps one of the most talked-about news stories of our lifetime occurred: The famed Titanic passenger ocean liner was conceived and tragically destroyed after colliding with an iceberg in the North Atlantic Ocean in 1912. During this time of our lives, so many extraordinary events occurred. Let us look back and ponder the incredible happenings of this time. What events or stories do you remember the most? How have these events and innovations shaped your life and our country over time? We look forward to seeing you at each of our planned events and activities – be sure to keep your eye out for more details on our main event: Art Through the Ages!

February Main Event

This month is chock-full of fun and exciting activities! We will be taking our second Luke Air Force Base Tour, Attending the Glendale Chocolate Affaire, Visiting the new LDS Temple, Having a Valentine’s Day Sock Hop with a special Sock Hop Dinner. Hooked on Dancing

Our big event is the Art Show on Thursday, February 27. We will be featuring artists and artisans of all ages from 3:00 to 6:00….. including our very own talented residents! Join us for wine & cheese tastings, musical entertainment

will perform the Time Machine – a selection of dances throughout the decades - and then we will visit the Hangar Café at the Chandler airport for lunch and end the month with a celebration of February birthdays with cake and ice cream. I can’t wait to get started!

Welcome to February! In a month that starts with the Super Bowl and is geared toward love, we are happy to be here for you. As a kid, Valentine’s Day meant chocolate. As a teenager it meant flirting and finding a date. As a married man, it means a weeks’ worth of thoughtful gifts and surprises for my wife. The true spirit of love can get ‘lost in translation.’

LDS Temple Tour: The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints invites the general public to attend an open house of the Gilbert Arizona Temple. Admission is free. Glendale Chocolate Affaire: Chocolate purveyors from Arizona and around the nation gather in Glendale for this awardwinning festival, which celebrates not only chocolate, but romance and the arts as well. Chocolate confections will include everything from chocolate truffles, sweet potato fries with chocolate and brown sugar glaze and tropical hot chocolate, to deep-fried chocolate bars and organic dark chocolate. The Chocolate Affaire is sponsored by Arizona’s famous candy makers, Cerretas.

11 Stockyards Restaurant: In 1947, The Stockyards, Arizona’s Original Steakhouse, opened its doors for the first time with a menu focused solely on its historical past: beef. Staying true to its heritage, The Stockyards’ menu continues to feature only the finest cornfed, aged steaks and prime rib.

14 Valentine’s Day: Join us for a Sock Hop! Pam & Bruce will perform for Happy Hour, followed by an old fashioned Sock Hop Dinner of burgers, fries, onion rings & milk shakes. 20 Hooked on Dancing: Join Mike & Pipi for a Showcase Performance. They will bring back memories as they perform dances throughout the decades. 22 Hangar Café: Eat breakfast or brunch at the Chandler airport as we watch the planes come and go. 27 Art Show: Join are in-house artists as well as artists and artisans in the community for a wonderful show. We will have a painting demonstration as well as other fun surprises such as a wine and cheese tasting and music!
