Shoreham based charity The Ellie Thornton Foundation launches
Free Festival-Themed family Fun Day! ELLIEFEST: Sat 9 July, 11AM - 5PM Clapham & Patching Village Hall, Worthing
ELLIEFEST, a festival-themed fun day and dog show that promises entertainment for the whole family. Taking place on Sat 9 July, 11am - 5pm at Clapham & Patching Village Hall, the day features live music, fabulous food, games and crafting activities for all ages. ELLIEFEST features a fun dog show, delivered in partnership with Sussex based Pet-Professionals, offering a range of categories from Most Handsome Hound to Pawfect Puppy. Jo Raine and Sarah Treagus of Pet-Professionals said: “We are thrilled to have been invited to run the dog show at ELLIEFEST and be part of such an important charity. We aim to make the day fun and enjoyable for all!” With games for adults and children alike, festival-goers will be able to test their sporting skills at beat the goalie and the coconut shy or chance their luck at the tombola and outdoor games. The craft village has no age limit, so families can spend some quality time together painting pottery or creating a festival flower crown. There will be a bouncy castle for little ones, face painting and nonsense poetry. The fun continues with Buckets of Fun from Southwick, who stretch little one’s imagination with sensory and messy play, songs and stories. If there’s too much excitement take some time and space in the chill-out tent. For those who prefer a slower pace, the Vintage Tea and Cake Cafe and all day barbecue will provide an opportunity to kick back and relax. With chilled beer, Pimms, speciality coffee and wood-fired pizza on the menu, there’s plenty to tickle your tastebuds. The day kicks off with West Sussex Rock Choir taking to the live music stage followed by performances from Shoreham All Stars’ young musicians, and acoustic sets by talented up and coming artists from the world-famous BRIT School, including: Sienna Melella, an experienced singer songwriter whose hauntingly beautiful vocals compliment her delightful guitar playing. Scarlett Rose, an alternative singer influenced by classical music and modern elements to create a unique atmosphere of darkness and unknown magic. Harmony Tunbridge, a London based writer, producer and musician brings her unique combination of spoken word and bluesy vocals. India France, a master of laid back vocals with a jazz groove. Vera Lappenen, guitarist and lead singer with recently signed punk rock band Man Woman and Chainsaw. Those attending are encouraged to leave their cares at the gate and enter into the spirit of the day by donning feathers, sequins, masks, hats and rainbows along with a smile. ELLIEFEST was conceived to help raise funds for road safety initiatives around schools and families can take advantage of the road safety bus on site to develop their awareness and understanding. Grants are available to schools wishing to develop their road safety measures and can be applied for online: elliethorntonfoundation.org.uk Ben Thornton, Ellie’s father said: “Ellie loved helping others and supporting different charities in any way she could. She also loved a festival so ELLIEFEST brings together some of her favourite things: family, games, music, animals and cake to help improve the lives of others” The funds raised will also be used to support families of children with additional needs through the provision of Ellie Days. This initiative was created to meet Ellie’s ambition to help other children enjoy family days out, especially the brothers and sisters of children with additional needs. Ellie was adamant that all children should access the fun of a family day, therefore priority is on enabling the siblings of children with additional needs The fund is set up in Ellie’s name and in her spirit of fun and adventure, to read the eligibility criteria and apply for a grant visit: elliethorntonfoundation.org.uk
