James “Jim” Bisset, father of former Sun Columnist, Christina Abt, passed on Friday May 2, 2014 in Pinellas Park, Florida. Bisset, formerly of Buffalo, NY passed of natural causes after a brief illness. He was pre- deceased by his wife, Alice C. Bisset and his brother B. David Bisset. He is survived by his daughter, Christina M. Abt, his grandchildren Lisabeth Abt (Kevin) Pieters and James Abt, two great-grandchildren, Bennett Christopher and Ella Rose Pieters and nephews David (Susan) Bisset, James (Liz) Bisset and niece Karen (Robert Barnes) Bisset and his former wife, Barbara J. Bisset. Jim was born in Butler, PA and grew up in Kenmore, NY. He attended Kenmore West High School, graduating in 1946. He went on to serve as a member of the US Army in Korea from 1946 through 1948. Returning home, Jim went to work in the steel mills of Pratt and Letchworth, located on Amherst St. in Buffalo. In time, he worked his way from mill to management, serving as the company’s production manager until the plant closed in 1981. From that point Jim worked for two years in management at Amcast Industrial Corporation followed by a mid-life career change to the completely unassociated profession of real estate. In 1983, Jim joined the HUNT Real Estate Agency Training Program. Within two years, he and fellow agent, Fred Paulsen, were revolutionizing the WNY real estate business by partnering on all listings. The unheard-of practice of teaming up, rather than competing, led the two men to the top of the HUNT Amherst Office sales force and eventually positioned Jim to assume the responsibilities of office management from Peter Hunt, who at the time

was transitioning into executive management. Under Jim’s leadership, HUNT Amherst became one of the top selling real estate offices in WNY, earning overall first or second sales honors throughout the six years he served as manager. Remarkably, within the first two years of Jim’s leadership, sales at the Amherst office equaled that of all WNY real estate offices combined, an achievement that twice earned Jim and his staff the honor of HUNT Office of the Year. Peter Hunt, now Chairman and CEO of Hunt Real Estate, noted Jim’s broad-based value to the company. ""Jim brought his executive experience to HUNT Real Estate, transforming an office into the leading branch in our system, while creating a supportive team environment. Jim was a real leader and always a gentleman." In May of 1991, Jim retired from his real estate career and moved to North Carolina where he embarked on an adventurous life living on the ocean and in the mountains. He also enjoyed some post-retirement side work serving up bagels from his own shop in Blowing Rock, NC. Ultimately, Jim moved to Florida in 2003, settling in St. Petersburg, close to his long-time friend, Fred Paulsen and his favored Tampa Bay Devil Rays Baseball Team. Jim was dedicated to his Scottish heritage and often shared family lore, including stories of his namesake, Sir James Bisset, captain of a ship that rescued survivors from the Titanic, his grandfather, Alexander Bisset, who sang with the famed Glasgow Orpheus Choir and his father, Bert David Bisset whose sailing adventures took him around the world and connected him with the infamous and the famous, including author, Jack London. No doubt Jim embraced the independent spirit and traditions of family members

before him, and left future family generations with that same legacy to remember and follow. A celebration of life for James Bisset will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery, June 7, 1pm. A reception will follow the memorial service, both held in the Forest Lawn Chapel. Friends of Jim and his family are welcome. Donations in Jim’s memory can be made to Hospice. Buffalo. __________

North Collins Named Silver Medal School The North Collins Junior Senior High School has once again been named a Silver Medal winner by U.S. News and World Report. Earlier in the month of May, they published their list of nationally designated “Best High Schools 2014”. North Collins Jr-Sr. High School is now ranked #123, up from last year when they were ranked #150 in New York State. They were also ranked #1560 in the nation (last year #1837). The Silver Medal ranking places North Collins in the top 25% of public high schools in the country for the second year in a row. Southtowns Catholic School Takes Beach Glass Class
A few students from Southtowns Catholic School took a Beach Glass Class at the Wanakah Seaway Trail Building. The class was taught by Nancy Willliams. She explained basic information on color identification and how to determine the age of the glass. Nancy shared stories of her beach adventures. After it was over, the kids couldn't wait to get back to the beach and find more treasure. Raiders Respond 2014
Thank you to Teachers, Students and all who participated in Raiders Respond 2014. Congratulations on a job well done!
The Eden Central School District has had an awesome part in the community for the past 5 years. It is the 5th year for Raiders Respond, which was the "brainchild" of the District Shared Decision Making Team. It is particularly important for secondary students wishing to attend college to get involved with community service projects. More and more colleges look at community service hours when considering admission. This is a great way to teach children of all ages that they can make a difference. This program has been extremely successful. Some teachers and staff accompanied the students to various locations throughout the town to work on projects. These are some (not all) of the projects that were done this year: Eden Emergency Squad- Detail ambulances, Eden Police Dept.- detail cars, Eden Town Hall- detail Eden senior vehicle, Eden United Methodist Church- window washing & some yard clean up,
Eden Kindercare & St. John's Church- powerwash church, inside/ outside clean up; Eden Public Library- dust, clean, reshelve books; Cemetery- picking up sticks and garbage; East Eden Fire Hallwash & wax vehicles; Absolut Care- Instrumental performance, dining room table centerpieces; Eden Heights- bingo with seniors, landscaping and singing; American Legion Grounds- paint project; Eden Regional Farm MuseumYard work, painting, light help with construction of museum in Welsh House; Ryther Creek- clean up, Swartz Field- clean up, Eden VFW- painting, Eden Post Office- planting, weeding; Boys & Girls Club- Landscaping; Eden Elementary, GLP, and Jr./ Sr. Highlandscaping, painting, car wash, homeless walk with sponsors, care packages; Eden Shurfine; and Landscaping various residences around Eden‌ and much more! Hopefully you have been fortunate enough to avoid using the services we provide, but we assure you that our staffs of VOLUNTEERS are available to serve you 24 hours a day if the occasion arises. At this time Flags of our Country will be inspected and condemned as unserviceable. They have reached their present state in a proper service of tribute, memory and love. A flag may be a flimsy bit of printed gauze, or a beautiful banner of finest silk. Its intrinsic value may be trifling or great; but it’s real value is beyond price, for it is a precious symbol of all that we and our comrades have worked for and lived for, and died for-a free nation of free men and women, true to the faith of the past, devoted to the ideas and practice of Justice, Freedom and Democracy. Let these faded Flags of our Country be retired and destroyed with respect and honorable rites and their place be taken by bright new Flags of the same size and kind, and let no grave of our soldier, sailor, or airman dead be unhonored and unmarked.
Unserviceable Flags can be dropped off at the American Legion or brought to the Flag Day Service. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held at the barn adjacent to the Post.

Adequate is Not Good Enough
Some people travel, may have an emergency or illness and will need to find a means for the care of their dog. Some owners turn over the care of their dog to well meaning but untrained neighbors, friends or family, sometimes with poor results. Pets placed in the care of part time sitters often escape, get destructive at home due to being left alone longer than they are used to, and get depressed for the same reason. For a dog that is completely housebroken at your house is not uncommon for s(he ) to mess inside at someone else’s house. The other alternative for your dog would be to use a good reputable boarding kennel. Every kennel is different with prices and services that vary. Some are kept in cages and taken for walks, some are where dogs are kept in a large area all together, some have large kennels with their own outdoor run and some may be kept in crates and let out at certain times. 4-H Gaming Clinic Hosted at Stagecoach West On May 3rd, 2014 Miss Rodeo New York Chelsea Kijek and Barrel Racers of WNY President Liz Wierzba hosted a 4-H Gaming Clinic at Stagecoach West in Irving. The clinic focused on safety, review of 4-H rules, how to tack your horse, and how to improve your ride while competing in gymkhana events. Gymkhana refers to games on horseback such as barrel racing and pole bending. Miss Rodeo and her horse Chloe demonstrated key tips to warming up and competing. They also treated us to a professional barrel run! The 4-Hers that brought their horses received oneon-one and group instruction from Miss Rodeo and Miss Liz. The other 4-Hers assisted with pointing out positive riding techniques and those that needed improvement. We learned a lot and asked a ton of questions! The day was so much fun! Pony Association Horse Shows The P.O.N.Y Association kicked off its series of summer horse shows on Sunday, June 1st, 2014 at the Stagecoach West in Irving. There was a huge turnout and the sunshine made for a fun-filled show. The grounds were buzzing with excitement, as everyone was happy to see old friends. The P.O.N.Y. Association did a fantastic job putting this show on and the Stagecoach West grounds were in great shape. On a recent trip to Jamaica, Justin Dutchess asked Leah Genco to be his wife. She said yes ... That being said, Michael and Robin Genco, of Eden, would like to announce the engagement of their daughter, Leah Michele Genco to Justin L. Dutchess, son of Peter and Susie Dutchess, of Angola. Leah is a graduate of SUNY Brockport with a degree in finance. Leah is employed by Lawley Insurance of Buffalo. She is a business manager with the company and is also currently attending Canisius College to obtain her Masters Degree in Business Administration. Justin is a graduate of Lake Shore High School and has been employed by Boston Valley Terra Cotta, in Boston Hills, for the past 13 years. An August 29th, 2015 beach wedding is being planned. Justin and Leah are still undecided on their honeymoon destination.
