Obituaries

William Erdley William Robert “Bill” Erdley - May 23, 1934- September 12, 2016. Born and raised in Colver, PA, Bill moved to Western New York, after serving in the Navy during the Korean War. Married to Sally (Hill) Erdley, for the past 60 years, they were longtime residents of Eden raising 3 children, and enjoying 4 grandchildren. Bill was active in local theatre groups such as the Hamburg Little Theatre starring in and directing multiple productions there. However, he was best known in the Aurora Players, for making the role of Don Quixote in Man Of La Mancha, his own. Bill retired from Ford after 37 years as an electrician at the Woodlawn Stamping Plant. Bill was a lifelong member of the North Collins Wesleyan Church, serving as a deacon on and off and bringing strong leadership and a recognizable rich bass voice to the Worship Team and solo performances. Bill was a standing member

of the Oddfellows, Chapter 187. He is survived by his wife Sally, children Dr. W. Scott (Kathleen) Erdley, Heather (Eric) Ohmit and Melissa (Warren) Rockwell III, grandchildren Lindsey (Bill) Love, Nathan Ohmit, Grace Ohmit and Henry Ohmit. His sister Margaret Cochran resides in Pittsburgh, PA and brother Howard Erdley resides in Carlton, PA. He is survived by a multitude of nieces and nephews throughout the United States. Bill was predeceased by his parents, Willard and Lilly, sister Betty, brothers Don, Jim and Ralph. Donations may be made in his memory to the North Collins Wesleyan Church at 10470 Bantle Rd, North Collins, NY. A visitation was held at Laing Funeral Home, 2724 W. Church St., Eden, NY on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 from 4PM to 8PM. Free Rabies Clinics to be held Sept. 20 & 28

The Erie County Legislature Majority Caucus encourages pet owners to take advantage of the County’s free rabies clinics for dogs, cats, and ferrets scheduled for September 20 and 28. Organized by the Erie County Department of Health, in partnership with the Niagara Frontier Veterinary Society, Medaille Veterinary Technology, and the SPCA, serving Erie County, the clinics will be held at the following locations: 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20 at Springville Volunteer Fire Department, 405 West Main Street, Springville 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28 at West Seneca Highway Department Garage, 39 South Avenue, West Seneca “This free service helps to keep both pets and residents safe. All pet owners whose dog, cat or ferret is due for their rabies vaccination are encouraged to attend the clinic,” Chairman John Mills said. “By participating, you can help protect our community against a rabies outbreak.” The following requirements must be met in order to receive the rabies vaccination: 1. Pets must be at least three [3] months of age to receive a rabies vaccination. 2. Proof of previous rabies vaccination must be provided to receive a three-year certificate; otherwise a one-year certificate will be issued. 3. All dogs, cats, and ferrets must be restrained using a leash and/or pet carrier. 4. No person shall be allowed to have more than three [3] pets in line at one time. ___________

First ACES Picnic Draws Fifty Eden Senior Citizens

Fifty Eden Senior Citizens turned out for the first Eden ACES (Active Citizens for Eden Seniors) picnic, under the portico of Eden United Methodist Church, where they were treated with typical summer fare of hot dogs and side dishes, along with songs and music by Eden accordionist Dave Gawronski. ACES outlined for the picnickers some of the programs proposed or already in operation in the short time the group has been in existence. The guests then were invited to sign up to take part in any of the programs that interested them. Among the programs were a respite service already in operation that provides a few hours of relief to local care givers, a Stay-Fit Dining program expected to start soon to help meet nutritional needs of Eden seniors, and a planned mentoring program to help imporve the reading skills of young Eden students. Also planned are a luncheon club, to meet periodically at area restaurants for both a meal and conversation, and an October Health Fair to sort out health care and insurance issues facing seniors. More details about these programs will be forthcoming. ___________
