The Boys of Summer captured the 5th Annual Brian Galfo Memorial Softball Tournament which was held Saturday, September 13th in Angola. The team went 6-1 overall and had to win 5 straight games to claim the championship. They capped off the day by defeating Brant in the championship game by a score of 13-11. The Galfo Memorial Tournament began in 2010 and is in honor of Brian Galfo who tragically passed away December 30th, 2009 in a car accident. Brian was a graduate of Lake Shore Central and was an outstanding three sport athlete who played football, basketball, and baseball. This past spring, the Lake Shore Central Varsity Baseball Team honored Brian by dedicating the scoreboard in left field to his memory. Brian played softball in the Angola Recreational League for the Boneheads and played in several local tournaments each year with Captain Kidds. Captain Kidds won the Galfo Memorial Tournament in 2010, 2011 and 2012. The Boys of Summer have won the tournament in 2013 and 2014. Brian's brother Rich, who still plays for the Boneheads and Captain Kidds, presented both the Boys of Summer and Brant with their first and second place trophies at the conclusion of the tournament. Several local schools continue to award scholarships in honor of Brian's memory. Eighth Grade Students at SSPP Participate in the Anne Frank Project at Buffalo State College Eighth grade students from Saints Peter and Paul: A Community School visited Buffalo State College to participate in The Anne Frank Project. According to The Anne Frank Project’s website, “the vision of The Anne Frank Project is to provide the world with the necessary tools and vocabulary to activate the forgiveness, unity and peace processes. Arming the world with these new tools will remove the role of bystander from any conflict.” Last year, middle school English Teacher Mrs. Jill Pallante read The Diary of a Young Girl: Anne Frank with her seventh grade students. The class then explored Anne Frank’s world through The Islands of Enlightenment, a virtual program hosted by Erie 1 BOCES. This program allows students to interact with the online environment through the use of avatars. Students have the chance to learn about the Holocaust and other historical events through this online program. The Islands of Enlightenment program was made avail-

able through the NYSED Technology and Learning Grant 2012-2015. Pallante’s students went to Buff Sate to present what they had learned about Anne Frank, World War II and the Holocaust through The Islands of Enlightenment, and to share the piece they had curated for the virtual Anne Frank museum. The students also presented on how to navigate The Islands of Enlightenment. The rest of Saints Peter and Paul’s eighth grade students spent their day learning how to tell their own stories and have their

The event was very successful in helping our residents clean up their waste and keep trash out of our ditches. The event was a first in Erie County that brought all aspects of waste to one site. We collected 13,588 lbs waste which included Electronics, Tires, Prescription Drugs, Needles, Pesticides, Light Bulbs, Auto & Household Batteries, Paint, Antifreeze and Cleaners. We would like to thank Sheriff Howard and the Erie County Sheriffs for participating, the Health Department, Hazman and all the workers. The Lake Shore Boys Varsity Soccer team lost a tough match on Friday, September 12 at West Seneca East by a score of 1-0. Both teams fought hard, but it was West Seneca East who were able to convert their scoring chance with five minutes remaining to earn the victory. The team lost at home Monday, September 15 to visiting Williamsville East by a score of 2-0. The Eagles fought hard in this match against a strong opponent. Saints Peter and Paul: A Community School is excited to welcome Sister Marilyn Ann Dudek, CSSF as its new principal. With 38 years of experience working in the Catholic school system, Sr. Dudek has a wealth of knowledge and experience in both the classroom and administration. She hopes to bridge the gap between new and returning students and build a community school that flourishes with traditions new and old. “I found when I was in elementary and high school that I loved school as a student,” said Dudek. This love of learning is what started Sr. Marilyn on her journey to become a teacher and later an administrator. Throughout high school Sr. Marilyn enjoyed helping a Felician Sister in her elementary classroom and realized how much she loved all the different aspects of school. Sr. Dudek’s first experience teaching informally in Catholic education occurred during her senior year of high school, when she taught a primary grade level Religious Education class. In 1976, three years after she joined the Felician community, Sr. Marilyn began working as a teacher at St. Josephat School in Cheektowaga, N.Y. Sr. Dudek worked as an elementary school teacher for the next 16 years, not pursuing a leadership role until she was asked to assume this ministry by the Felician leadership team. “Administration is a way for me to share my gifts and talents with not just a single classroom, but with an entire school community,” expressed Sr. Dudek. Sr. Marilyn is excited to begin a new school year, stating “I’m happy to be here at Saints Peter and Paul. My encounters have been very welcoming and positive.” She looks forward to working with the students, teachers, staff and parents. Carpenter Technician Per Diem position Available. Rate of pay determined commensurate with experience and ability.

Must have advanced carpentry skills and understand and implement blue prints & schematics provided in the field. Skilled installation of a wide range of construction materials. Knowledgeable in plumbing & electrical installation.

Part-Time Maintenance Technician. 16 hours/week. $10.40 hr.

Completes all minor repairs to physical structures, including electrical, heating, plumbing, carpentry, and painting, etc. Provides ground maintenance at all sites as needed. Assist with janitorial service including emergency and planned assistance at any sites.

Minimum Requirements Include:

Must be at least 18, hold a valid NY State driver license, & have a High School Diploma or GED.
