Recently, the Lake Shore High School Freshman Seminar ninth-grade students were visited by School Resource Officer Doug Tubinis. Tubinis, a Town of Evans police officer, discussed the responsibilities and dangers that can come with communicating online. From cyberbullying and predator protection to using appropriate language and grammar online, students have been learning how to communicate better via social media, texting and e-mail. Officer Tubinis brought students a legal point of view by explaining how the law views and deals with those who are harassed and those who are harassing others online. He also described the different types of harassment that occur online frequently. Tubinis encouraged students to come forward to him, teachers and parents when it comes to witnessing cyberbullying or inappropriate posting. Parents can also help by reminding their children the first lesson of using social media: never post anything you would not want your grandmother or future boss to see. While school was on a short break, the Boys and Girls Club of Eden offered some action-packed field trips to both members and non-members. On Thursday, February 18th, a group traveled to the Hamburg Town Ice Arena for some indoor ice-skating and then enjoyed lunch at John and Mary’s. The Club also took a group to Rainbow Skateland in Lockport on Friday, February 19th. Children and staff had a great time! ___________

On January 23rd, Erie County 4-H held their annual horse bowl event. Horse bowl is an educational event where all horse 4-H members come together in teams to answer horse related questions. All of the 4-H clubs that participated in this event were the Eden Stampede, Wyandale Wranglers, Hillside Riders, Sardinia Saddlers, Tri-Color Equestrians, P & B Rebels, and individual members. The Eden Stampede sent 6 teams and they placed as follows: Senior team 2nd, Junior team 1st, Novice teams 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 6th. The top 10 kids in each division were selected to move on to regional competition in March to represent Erie County. The kids from our club (The Eden Stampede) moving on to regionals are: SENIOR – Diana Henry, JUNIOR – Emma Preischel, NOVICE – Emma Schmitt, Alexis Wierzba, Allison Grunder, Courtney Schmitt, and Meeah Wegrzynowski. Erie County Stay Fit Dining sites provide seniors with meals and free wellness programs including nutrition counseling, nutrition education and exercise sessions. The program is open to all Erie County Residents, 60 years of age or over. Recently, Commissioner Randy Hoak, Jennifer Wood and Michael Saccamanno from Erie County Senior Services met with Pastor Jim Reidling of St. John's Community Church in Eden and Donna Sundell (chair) and Ginny Guenther from ACES (Active Citizens for Eden Seniors). The group is considering a Stay Fit Dining site at the St. John’s Church.
