Elizabeth G. (Betty) Dedrick died unexpectedly on Monday, June 9th, 2014 at Elderwood at Hamburg where she had resided since 2010. Betty was a kind, compassionate woman who loved people. She was born in Canonsburg, PA in 1926, daughter of William D. Gething and Jean Coleman Gething and lived in PA, OH, DC and NY during her lifetime. Betty and her husband, Laurence Dedrick, were married in May 1951. She is survived by her eldest daughter, Jean Kramer and her son-inlaw Michael Kramer of Silverthorne, CO and her youngest daughter Mary Dedrick of Buffalo, NY and Brian Tytka and his daughters, Ginsey and Gilly of Hamburg, NY who she knew and loved for 13 years. She was predeceased by two twin sons, David Laurence and Daniel William and her sister Jane (Gething) Nelson. Funeral services will be held at Lakeside Funeral Home in Hamburg, NY on Thursday, June 26 at 2 pm. Donations in her memory can be made to the American Heart Association. __________

We are looking for homeowners in the Derby community to rent their garages to Fire Companies and Departments who will be visiting during the convention. These garages are commonly referred to as “Dugouts”. A Dugout generally consists of a volunteer fire company setting up a hospitality room. Typically they will rent a garage as the dugout. If you do not have a garage, your lot may also be used, as some Fire Companies/Depts. utilize tents as their dugouts. Dugouts are generally utilized the during the day and typically close around 11:00 p.m. You will be reimbused at the close of the event based on the size of your lot or garage. Evans Force 12U Wins Lakeshore Tournament
The Evans Force 12U softball team entered their second tournament of the season and gained their first franchise tournament title. The Cheektowaga Crabapples were the Force’s first opponent in the Lakeshore Girls of Summer Tournament played at Lakeshore Little League fields in Hamburg. The see saw battle saw the Force with a 5-4 lead after 5 innings. But the Force broke it open with 1 in the sixth and 5 in the seventh en route to an 11-4 victory. The force was led by Cam Adimey who went 3 for 3 including 2 doubles in those last 2 innings while scoring 3 times. Other hitting stars were Tabitha Allen going 2 for 4 with 3 RBI and 3 runs. Evie Butlak went 2 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI with Caitlin Burbige going 2 for 3 with 2 RBI. Evie Butlak pitched the complete game allowing only 5 hits and no walks while striking out 6. Next came the host team the Lakeshore Esclipse. The Esclipse jumped out to a 4-1 lead after the top of 3. After the Force tied it up, the Esclipse took an 8-4 lead after the top of 4. Then the Force went to work scoring 5 in the 4th to take a 9-8 lead. They added a run in each of the last two innings to gain an 11-8 win. Caitlin Burbige led the way going 3 for 3 scoring 3 times while Evie Butlak also scored 3 times and went 1 for 2 with 2 walks. Also getting hits were Sam Dils (2 RBI), Maddy Tempski (2 hits 1 RBI), Kymi Nance (2 RBI), Aliana Torres and Allison Smith (1 RBI). Evie Butlak battled thru two tough innings to pitch a complete game allowing only 6 hits and 2 walks while striking out 5. The Force finished Saturday with a lopsided 15-1 win over Clarence Red Devils in a 3 inning mercy win. Caitlin Burbige poked a 2 run home run over the field and Maddy Tempski went 3 for 3 with a double scroing 3 times and 4 RBI. Tabitha Allen (1 double), Sam Dils (2 hits) and Kymi Nance (1 hit) all scored 3 runs. Evie Butlak, Grace Barker and Aliana Torres each added hits. Evie Butlak allowed only 1 hit and walked 3 while striking out 4 in the 3 innings. Elimination Sunday began with the Force facing the WNY Rally. The Force managed to take care of the pesty Rally with an 11-3 5 inning win. Maddy Tempski got a single and double for 4 RBI and Caitlin Burbige got 2 doubles 3 runs and 2 RBI to lead the Force. Cam Adimey and Sam Dils each had a double and single while Grace Barker had a double. Kymi Nance, Monica Pokoj and Jessica Beehler added hits. Evie Butlak again went the distance only allowing 2 hits and 3 walks while striking out 5. Next up was Clarence again and again the Force took care of them easily with an 11-1 4 inning victory. Maddy Tempski got a double and single with 3 RBI \
had a triple. Sam Dils and Grace Barker had singles while Caitlin Burbige scored twice with 2 walks. Evie Butlak continued to be the workhorse with her 5th straight complete game allowing only 1 hit and 2 walks while striking out 4.The championship game pitted the Force against the Cheektowaga Crapapples their first opponent of the tournament. The Crabapples gained entrance to the game with a thrilling 7-6 win over the Nitro who were the co-number one seeds with the Force. After the Crabapples failed to score in the top half of the first the Force scored 5 and was still batting with 2 outs and a girl on third when the rains came. Unfortunely the game could not be resumed and the Force was declared the champions with their 5-0 record and previously beating the Crabapples in eariler play. Contributed by Al Butlak __________

Students in Miss Lori McIntyre's Grade 3 class got a very special visit from Colonel Bob Pecoraro. Colonel Pecoraro is the Deputy Executive Director at Buffalo and Erie County Naval and Military Park. He came to school to tell the kids all about the Purple Heart Memorial that was placed in Buffalo's Naval and Military Park. He brought pictures and a program from the dedication of the new memorial.
