It is with a feeling of sadness that I will be retiring from my practice in Angola and Buffalo effective August 31, 2014. In addition, it has been both an honor and privilege these past 31 years to care for the dental needs of many wonderful people who I will miss. These sentiments are also shared by my office staff, Marlene Walker and Jerry Howard. Because of health issues and the aging process, the good Lord has let me know that it is now the time to retire. Representatives from the Legion of Mary and Deacon Rick led the prayers for family members and close friends, numbering over a hundred, which attended this service. Other memorial Masses will be offered in NY and Atlanta, GA, as well as a Celebration of Life memorial in Angola, NY on August 9, 2014. Evans Force Loses in Semi Finals
The Evans Force 12U played their first tournament of the season at Evans Youth baseball fields last Memorial day Weekend. The tournament started with games on Friday night. The Force were pitted against rival Eden Lady Raiders. However the game was in the first inning when the rains came and washed out the game and it was not made up. So the first game for the Force was against Clarence Red Devils on Saturday. It proved to be an easy 10-0 win for the host team. Evie Butlak pitched a no-hitter while walking only 3 and striking out 5 in a 4 inning mercy game. The big blow came as Caitlin Burbige hit a 3 run homer. Cam Adimey went 2 for 2 and 2 RBI while Evie Butlak, Maddy Tempski, Emma Wlostowski and Rayvn Isaacs all added hits, Isaacs hit scored the last run assuring the Force victory. Next came the Wellsville Dawgs. Wellsville pitching had the answer for the Force bats limiting them to only 4 hits (2 by Tabitha Allen and 1 each by Cam Adimey and Jessica Beehler). Force pitcher Emma Wlostowski was also good but still suffered a 5-2 defeat in 6 innings. Emma only allowed 5 hits and 4 walks and only 3 earned runs while striking out 8. On elimination Sunday the Cheektowaga Crabapples jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the top half of the first inning. But the Force battled back to score 10 in the bottom half of the inning to take a 10-5 lead. The Crabapples closed the gap to 10-9 before the Force scored 4 in the bottom of the fifth to secure a 14-10 victory. Evie Butlak did not have her best stuff but still managed to allow only 1 baserunner in the last 2 innings to get the complete game victory. Evie did create some offensive with 3 hits and 3 runs including a double. Tabitha Allen was on fire going 3 for 4 and scoring twice with 4 RBI. Cam Adimey and Caitlin Burbige each had 2 hits with one of Caitlin's a double. Mandy Tempski had a triple and Grace Barker doubled off the fence just missing a home run by inches. Then came the semi final match against Lou Gehrig Lazers in the best game of the tournament. It was a pitching duel between the Lazers Abby Hinkley and Force's Emma Wlostowski. The scored was tied 2-2 going into the bottom of the 6th inning. Evie Butlak came in relief of Emma after Emma showed signs of tiring walking 3 and allowing 2 hits to the two prior innings. The Lazers got the first two batters on base when a mishandled bunt allowed 2 runs to score. The Force made a 1-2-3 double play with bases loaded to prevent further damage.The Force battled back in the top of the 7th with 2 outs when Monica Pokoj starting with a single and Kymi Nance walk. Jessica Beehler pinch running for Monica and Kymi scored on a one pass ball to tie the score. However the Lazers led off the bottom of the 7th with a single and got a runner to second and scored on a two out single despite a great effort of center fielder Kymi Nance to throw out the winning score. Lou Gehrig went on the defeat Wellsville in the title game to win the title. Later in the week the Force resumed their Metro schedule with a game under the lights in Eden to face the Lady Raiders. The Lady Raiders proved no match for the Force as new comer Lauren Booth pitched a 2 hitter allowing only 3 walks and striking out 5 on route to a 16-2 win. Tabitha Allen had 2 hits including a double with 5 RBI and Maddy Tempski had 2 triples. Evie Butlak had 2 hits and scored 3 times and Cam Adimey, Caitlin Burbige, Lauren Booth, Kymi Nance and Grace Barker all added hits with Grace's being a double. Contributed by Al Butlak

Legislator John Mills’ 3rd annual Hot Dog Roast Fundraiser was held at the Angola Public Library on Friday, June 6.
